IRS paper check not received - what to do?
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with a paper check from the IRS. It was supposed to be mailed to me but I haven't received it yet. I'm not sure what to do next. Has anyone else dealt with this before? Any advice on how to handle this situation or what information I should have ready when I call them?

Ugh, dealing with the IRS is always a pain. Have you checked the Where's My Refund tool on their website? Sometimes that can give you an update on the status of your check.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I tried that tool but it doesn't show any info about mailed checks, just direct deposits 😕

•Yeah, the Where's My Refund tool is pretty useless for paper checks. I've been there before, its frustrating af 🤬

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

•I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it's legit. Saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo

•I'm skeptical. How does it actually work? Seems like it could be a scam.

•Not a scam at all! It uses some kind of AI to navigate the phone menus and detect when a human picks up. Then it calls you. Super simple to use.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all relevant info: tax return copy, any IRS notices, dates of filing and when the check was supposed to arrive. 2. Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. Be prepared for a long wait. 3. When you get through, explain the situation calmly and clearly. 4. Ask about the status of your check and if there were any issues processing it. 5. If the check was mailed but you didn't receive it, they can initiate a trace on it. 6. Be patient! Sometimes these things take time to resolve. Remember, the IRS is dealing with millions of taxpayers. Stay polite but persistent. Good luck!

•Great advice! I'd add: take notes during the call, including the agent's name and ID number. It helps if you need to follow up later.

•Preach! 🙌 I swear they do it on purpose to discourage people from calling. It's ridiculous.

•Have you tried calling right when they open? I had luck getting through that way once.

Whatever you do, DON'T agree to let them send another check without cancelling the first one. My friend did that and ended up with two checks and a huge headache trying to return one. Make sure they put a stop on the original check first!

Anyone else think its crazy we still use paper checks in 2023? Like, hello IRS, ever heard of direct deposit? 🙄💅

•For real tho! My grandma processes payments faster than the IRS 😂

•Some people don't have bank accounts or prefer checks. But yeah, they should make direct deposit the default option.
