IRS says my business check wasn't cashed, but their number isn't working. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I just got a letter from the IRS last Friday saying my business check wasn't cashed. I called the number they gave me, but it's not working. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do next? I'm worried about getting this sorted out quickly.

Ugh, dealing with the IRS is always a nightmare. Here's what I'd do: 1. Double-check the number you're calling. Sometimes they give out old or incorrect numbers. 2. Try calling early in the morning or late in the day. Less traffic on the lines. 3. Have all your docs ready - the letter, your business info, tax ID, etc. 4. Be prepared to wait. Like, a loooong time. 5. If all else fails, try contacting your local Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can sometimes help navigate IRS issues. Good luck, OP! Let us know how it goes.

•This is solid advice 💯 I'd add: keep a log of all your calls and who you talk to. It'll save you headaches later if you need to follow up.

•Taxpayer Advocate Service is legit. They helped me sort out a mess with my business taxes last year. Def worth a shot if you're getting nowhere with the main IRS line.

I feel your pain, OP. The IRS is like a black hole where checks and sanity disappear. Have you tried faxing them? Sometimes that works better than calling. Just make sure you keep copies of EVERYTHING you send.

Yo, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

•Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? 🤔

•Yeah, it actually does. I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate after being on hold for hours. It saved me a ton of time.

•$20 to skip the hold time? Sign me up! 🙌 Anything to avoid that awful hold music.

•I get the skepticism, but it's legit. They've got good reviews online and it worked for me. Just sharing what helped me out. 🤷♂️

Plot twist: What if the check was actually cashed and the IRS just lost track of it? 🕵️♂️ Might be worth checking your bank statements to make sure it didn't clear without you noticing.

•Oh man, I didn't even think of that. I'll definitely double-check my statements. Thanks for the idea!

This happened to me last year. Turns out they sent the check to an old address. Make sure all your contact info is up to date with them. It's a pain, but you might need to request a new check if the old one is lost in the mail void.

OP, whatever you do, DON'T IGNORE THIS. I made that mistake and ended up with penalties. Keep calling, faxing, carrier pigeon-ing, whatever it takes to get in touch with them. The IRS doesn't play around with uncashed checks.

•Yikes, thanks for the warning. I definitely don't want to end up with penalties. I'll keep at it!

Have you tried tweeting at the IRS? I know it sounds ridiculous, but sometimes their social media team is more responsive than their phone lines. Worth a shot! 🐦

Pro tip: If you can't get through on the main line, try calling one of their other departments and then asking to be transferred. Sometimes it's easier to get a human that way.
