IRS refund issue: Closed bank account before receiving tax return. Will they send a check?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I filed my tax return and was expecting a refund, but I recently closed my bank account. Now I'm worried about how I'll get my money. Does anyone know if the IRS sends checks when they can't do direct deposit? Or am I gonna have to jump through hoops to update my info?

I found a way to solve IRS refund with closed account, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPoftMXWNuw

Yep, they'll send a paper check if the direct deposit fails. No worries! It'll just take a bit longer to get to you.

Oh thank goodness! That's a relief. Any idea how much longer it might take?

It can take an extra 2-4 weeks for them to process and mail the check. Just keep an eye on your mailbox!

Got it, thanks so much! I'll try to be patient šŸ˜…

I had the same issue last year. The IRS tried to deposit my refund, it bounced, and then they mailed me a check about 3 weeks later. You should be fine!

Pro tip: Next time, leave your old account open until you're sure all expected deposits have cleared. Learned that the hard way myself šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

If you're really worried, you can always call the IRS to confirm. But fair warning, getting through to a human can be a nightmare šŸ’€

Omg for real. I spent 3 hours on hold last time I tried to call them. Never again!

Actually, I found a way to get someone on the phone without the wait. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Wait, seriously? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it's legit. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

Idk man, paying to talk to the IRS feels wrong somehow. But I guess if it works... šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Here's what you need to know about IRS refunds and closed bank accounts: • If the direct deposit fails, they automatically switch to mailing a paper check • It usually takes 2-4 weeks longer than the original estimated date • The check will be mailed to the address on your tax return • If you've moved, file Form 8822 to update your address ASAP • You can check your refund status online using the "Where's My Refund?" tool • If it's been more than 6 weeks since the return was accepted, you may need to call Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Same thing happened to my sister a few months ago! The IRS automatically mailed her a paper check when the direct deposit failed. Took about 3 weeks from when she got the notice that the deposit couldn't go through. Just make sure your current address is updated with them so the check doesn't get lost in the mail!
