IRS not crediting payments, payment agreement at risk. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with the IRS. I made several payments to them, but they're not showing up on my account. Now my payment agreement is at risk! I've got confirmation numbers and everything. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do?

Ugh, classic IRS. π I had a similar issue last year. Have you tried calling them? Be prepared to wait on hold for hours though.

β’Yeah, I've been trying to call but can never get through. It's so frustrating!

β’Pro tip: call right when they open. You might have better luck getting through.

Document everything! Make sure you have all your payment confirmations, dates, and amounts. You might need to send a written dispute.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://www.claimyr.com

β’Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

β’Yeah, it actually does! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time.

Have you checked your IRS account online? Sometimes payments take a few days to show up in the system.

β’Yeah, I've been checking daily. It's been weeks and still nothing π

This happened to me once. Turns out the payment went to the wrong tax year. Double-check that your payments were applied to the correct year and type of tax.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all your payment confirmations, including dates, amounts, and confirmation numbers. 2. Take screenshots of your online account showing the missing payments. 3. Write a detailed letter explaining the situation. Include copies of all your evidence. 4. Send the letter via certified mail to the IRS office handling your account. 5. If possible, also fax the same documents to the IRS. 6. Keep trying to reach them by phone. Use the trick someone mentioned about calling right when they open. 7. If you have a local Taxpayer Advocate Service office, consider reaching out to them for help. 8. Be patient but persistent. It might take a while, but keep following up. Remember, the burden of proof is on you, so documentation is key. Good luck!

β’This is solid advice. I'd add: keep a log of all your calls and correspondence with the IRS. It might come in handy later.

Seriously tho, the IRS needs to get its act together. How are we supposed to comply when they can't even process payments correctly?
