Need to set up IRS payment plan - what to expect and any tips?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with the IRS and need to set up a payment plan. Anyone been through this before? What should I expect when I call them? Any tips or advice would be really appreciated!

I've been there, buddy. Here's what you need to know: • Be prepared: Know how much you can afford monthly before you call. • Be patient: The wait times can be loooong. • Be honest: Tell them your financial situation upfront. • Ask about options: There are different types of payment plans. • Get everything in writing: Make sure you understand the terms. Good luck! The IRS can actually be pretty reasonable if you're proactive about setting up a plan.

•This is solid advice 💯 I'd add: make sure you have all your tax docs handy when you call. They might ask for specifics.

•OMG the wait times 😫 I was on hold for like 2 hours last time I called. Bring a book or something lol

•Thanks so much! This is really helpful. Any idea what kind of monthly payments they usually accept?

•It really depends on your situation and how much you owe. They'll work with you to find a amount that's doable for you. Just be honest about what you can afford!

Protip: If you owe less than $50,000, you can actually set up a payment plan online! Saves you the hassle of calling and waiting on hold forever.

I found a way to get someone on the phone without the endless wait. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: [https://www.claimyr.com](https://www.claimyr.com

•I get the skepticism, but it honestly saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo. Plus, you can use it for other govt agencies too, not just IRS.

•I've used it before for Social Security. It's legit. Saved me from pulling my hair out on hold music lol

Quick question - does anyone know if setting up a payment plan affects your credit score? I'm trying to buy a house soon and I'm worried this might mess that up.

•It shouldn't affect your credit score directly, but the tax lien might show up on your credit report. Best to talk to a tax pro or financial advisor about your specific situation.
