Tax Advocate told me to call IRS but didn't specify why - What should I expect?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. My tax advocate told me to call the IRS, but I'm not sure what specific problem they were referring to. Has anyone else been in this situation? What should I expect when I finally get through to them? Any advice would be appreciated!

Ugh, dealing with the IRS is always a headache. Did your tax advocate give you any paperwork or reference numbers to mention when you call? That might help narrow down the issue.

•No, they didn't give me any paperwork or reference numbers. That's why I'm so confused about what to say when I finally get through 😓

•Yikes, that's rough. Maybe try calling your tax advocate back and asking for more details before you waste time on hold with the IRS?

•That's a good idea, I'll give that a shot. Thanks!

I've been there before. It's frustrating when you don't have all the info. Here's what I'd suggest: 1. Call your tax advocate back and ask for specifics 2. If you can't reach them, gather all your recent tax documents 3. When you call the IRS, explain that your advocate told you to call but didn't give details 4. Be prepared to answer questions about your recent tax history Hope this helps! Good luck dealing with the bureaucracy 🙄

•This is solid advice. I'd add: take notes during the call. You might need to reference the convo later.

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://www.claimyr.com

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

•Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo.

Pro tip: call early in the morning right when they open. You'll have a better chance of getting through quickly.

Have you checked your online IRS account? Sometimes there are notices or messages there that can give you a clue about what's going on.

•I didn't even know I could have an online IRS account! How do I set that up?

•Just go to irs.gov and look for the 'Sign into My Account' option. You'll need to verify your identity to set it up.

Bruh, tax advocates are useless. I've had better luck just calling the IRS directly and explaining my situation. At least they have access to your actual account info.

•Disagree. My tax advocate was super helpful. Guess it depends on who you get 🤷♂️

Whatever you do, DON'T agree to anything or make any payments without fully understanding your situation. The IRS can be pushy, but you have rights!

Has anyone else noticed that the IRS seems even more disorganized lately? I swear it's gotten worse since the pandemic 😑

•Totally! I think they're still catching up on the backlog. It's a mess.

•Yeah, budget cuts + pandemic = disaster. They need more funding tbh
