Cut off mid-call with IRS while amending tax return - What now?
Hey everyone, I'm in the middle of amending my tax return and got cut off while talking to the IRS. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm not sure what to do next or how to get back in touch with them. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Ugh, that sucks! The IRS phone system is a nightmare. I've been trying to get through for weeks. Keep calling and eventually you'll get someone... maybe 🙄

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•I was skeptical too, but I tried it and it actually worked. Saved me hours of frustration.

•20 bucks tho? Thats kinda steep just to talk to someone we should be able to reach anyway 😒

•I get it, but for me, it was worth it. Time is money, and I was wasting so much time on hold.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Keep calling the IRS Amended Return hotline at 866-464-2050 2. Best times to call are early morning or just before closing 3. Have all your documents ready when you call 4. Be patient and polite with the agent 5. If you get disconnected, ask for a callback number or extension 6. Consider using a tax advocate if you keep having issues Hope this helps! Dealing with the IRS can be a real headache, but persistence is key.

•Great advice! I'd add: take notes during your call. Write down the agent's name and ID number if possible. It helps if you need to follow up later.

I feel your pain, OP. The IRS is seriously understaffed and overworked. It's not an excuse, but it explains why it's so hard to get through. Hang in there!

•Yea, I heard they're still dealing with a backlog from the pandemic. Wild that it's taking this long to catch up 🤦♂️

PRO TIP: If you can't get through on the phone, try contacting your local Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can sometimes help push things along when you're stuck.
