Need help with IRS - not sure what to ask them about taxes

Hey everyone, I'm trying to get in touch with the IRS about my taxes but I'm not sure what exactly I need to talk to them about. Has anyone else been in this situation? I feel like I'm missing something important but I can't put my finger on it. Any advice on how to approach this or what questions I should be asking when I finally get through to them?

Bruh, you gotta be more specific. The IRS deals with a ton of stuff. Are you filing late? Owe money? Got a weird letter? Give us something to work with here! 🤔

You're right, my bad. I guess I'm just feeling overwhelmed and don't even know where to start. I haven't received any notices, I'm just worried I might have messed something up on my last return.

Been there, done that. Tax anxiety is real! Maybe start by double-checking your last return? If you used software, you could run through it again and see if anything jumps out at you.

That's a good idea, thanks! I'll give that a shot before I call them. Might save me some time on hold lol

Pro tip: if you're gonna call the IRS, be prepared to wait. Like, bring-a-book-and-snacks kind of wait. Their hold times are legendary. 📚🍿

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone without the crazy wait times. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Sounds too good to be true. How does it actually work? Is it legit?

I was skeptical at first too, but it's legit. You pay, give them your number, and they call you when they get an agent. Saved me hours of hold music!

$20 to skip the hold? Idk man, seems like a rip-off. 🤔

I get it, but think about how much your time is worth. For me, not sitting on hold for 3 hours was totally worth it.

Listen up, cause I've been down this road before. Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all your tax documents from the last year. W-2s, 1099s, everything. 2. Review your last tax return carefully. Look for any obvious errors or omissions. 3. Check if you've received any notices from the IRS. Sometimes they send important info that gets overlooked. 4. Make a list of specific questions or concerns. The more focused you are, the more helpful the IRS agent can be. 5. When you call, be patient and polite. These folks deal with angry people all day. 6. Take notes during the call. Get the agent's name and ID number if possible. 7. If you're still unsure after the call, consider talking to a tax professional. Remember, it's better to address any issues now rather than letting them snowball. Good luck!

I didn't even know they had an online account system! I'll definitely check that out, thanks for the tip!

ugh the irs is such a nightmare to deal with. good luck op, youre gonna need it 🙄

Hey, don't stress too much! If you haven't received any notices, chances are you're probably fine. The IRS usually lets you know if there's a problem. Maybe you're just being proactive, which is great, but don't let it keep you up at night!

Thanks for the reassurance! You're right, I might be overthinking this. I'll still double-check everything, but I'll try not to worry too much.

Plot twist: what if OP is actually an IRS agent trying to figure out how to do their job? 🤣🕵️

Lmao imagine if that was true. "How do I IRS?" 😂

Haha, you got me! Jk, I wish I had that kind of inside knowledge. Maybe my life would be easier 😅
