Need help changing address & setting up IRS payment plan - tips?
Hey everyone, I need to change my address and set up a payment plan with the IRS. Has anyone gone through this process recently? Any tips or advice would be appreciated. I'm not sure which department to contact or what steps I need to take.

I just went through this last month. First, you need to call the IRS main number and navigate through their menu to reach the correct department. Be prepared to wait on hold for a looong time. When you finally get through, have all your info ready - social security number, old and new address, and your financial details for the payment plan.

•Ugh, the waiting times are brutal. I spent 3 hours on hold last week 😫

•Pro tip: call early in the morning right when they open. The wait times are usually shorter then.

•Thanks for the advice! Do you remember which options you chose in the phone menu to get to the right department?

•I think it was something like 'payment plans' and then 'change existing plan', but honestly, it's a bit of a maze. Just keep listening carefully and choose the options that sound closest to your situation.

You can actually do both of these things online! Go to the IRS website and look for the 'Online Payment Agreement' tool. You can update your address there and set up a payment plan without having to deal with the phone nightmare.

Whatever you do, make sure you keep records of everything. The IRS can be a real pain to deal with, and having documentation of all your communications and agreements can save you a lot of headaches down the road.

I found a method to get someone on the phone quickly. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the URL: https://www.claimyr.com

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•Yep, totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo.

•How does it work exactly? Do they just keep redialing until they get through?

•From what I understand, they use some kind of automated system to navigate the phone menu and wait on hold. When a real person picks up, it forwards the call to you. Pretty clever tbh.

•Great info! Just want to add that if you owe less than $50,000, you can usually set up a plan online without having to talk to anyone.

Am I the only one who thinks its ridiculous that we have to jump through so many hoops just to give the government our money? 🙄 The system is broken af

Quick question - does anyone know if changing your address with the IRS affects your state taxes too, or do you need to do that separately?

•You usually need to update your address with the state separately. Each state has its own process for this.

•Ugh, of course. More bureaucracy to deal with. Thanks for the info tho!
