Need advice on negotiating with IRS Special Compliance Dept for payment plan

Hey everyone, I need some advice. I'm trying to set up a payment plan with the IRS Special Compliance Department. Has anyone gone through this process before? What should I expect? I've got all my documents ready, but I'm feeling pretty nervous about the call. Any tips on how to negotiate effectively or what kind of payment plans they typically offer would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

I've been through this before. Here's what you need to know: • Be prepared with all your financial info. They'll ask about income, expenses, assets, etc. • Have a realistic payment plan in mind before you call. • Stay calm and polite, but don't be afraid to advocate for yourself. • If they propose a plan you can't afford, explain why and counter-offer. • Get everything in writing after the call. Remember, they deal with this all day. As long as you're honest and show you're trying to resolve the debt, they're usually willing to work with you. Good luck!

This is solid advice! I'd add: don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand something. Better to clarify during the call than be confused later.

@profile 3 It took me forever too! I finally used this site called claimyr.com. It costs $20 but it dials for you, waits on hold, and then calls you when a real person picks up. Saved me hours of frustration.

Yeah, I've used it. It works but feels kinda weird paying to talk to the IRS lol. Still better than being on hold for hours tho

I found a way to get through to someone on the phone pretty quickly. There's this site called claimyr.com that has a tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then sends the call to your phone when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it saved me hours of hold time. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

Sounds sketchy. How do you know it's legit?

I was skeptical too, but I tried it and it worked great. They have good reviews online and a money-back guarantee if it doesn't work.

$20 to talk to the IRS? That's highway robbery! 😡

@profile 9 I get it, but for me, it was worth it to not waste a whole day on hold. Time is money, ya know?

whatever you do, DON'T agree to a payment plan you cant afford. they'll use that against you later. trust me, i learned the hard way 😭

I agreed to pay more than I could handle each month cuz I was scared. Ended up defaulting and now I'm in an even worse situation. Don't be like me lol

Has anyone had luck getting penalties waived? I've heard they sometimes do that for first-time offenders.

Yeah, they waived mine! You gotta ask tho, they won't offer it up.

It depends on your situation. If you have a good reason for why you couldn't pay on time, they might be more willing to work with you.

Pro tip: if you can pay off the full amount within 120 days, you can set up a short-term payment plan online without having to talk to anyone. Might be worth looking into if your balance isn't too high.
