How to change address with IRS and schedule local office appointment?
Hey everyone, I need to change my address with the IRS and schedule an appointment at my local office. Has anyone done this recently? What's the best way to go about it? Any tips or tricks to make the process smoother?

I just went through this process last month. Here's what I did: 1. Call the IRS main number (1-800-829-1040) 2. When you get through, ask to update your address first 3. Then request an appointment at your local office Be prepared to wait on hold for a while tho. It took me almost 2 hours to get through 😫

•Tell me about it. I felt like I was losing years off my life just sitting there listening to that hold music 😅

I found a way to avoid the long hold times! I used this site called claimyr.com. It's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then calls you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it saved me hours of waiting. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Jc9x-gysK0

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•I was skeptical at first too, but it really worked for me. Saved me a ton of time and frustration.

•How does it know when a real person picks up?

•I think it uses some kind of AI to detect when the hold music stops and a person starts talking. Not sure about the exact tech, but it worked like a charm for me!

Pro tip: You can actually change your address online if you have an account on the IRS website. Might save you some time on the phone. Here's the link: [IRS.gov/myaccount]

•Oh wow, I didn't know that was an option! Thanks for the tip. Do you know if I can schedule an appointment online too?

•Unfortunately, appointments still need to be made over the phone or in person. The online system isn't quite there yet 😕

I tried to change my address last year and it was a nightmare. Took me 3 calls and 2 visits to the local office to get it sorted. Make sure you bring ALL your documents with you when you go for your appointment. Better to have too much than not enough!

•What kind of documents did they ask for? I'm about to do this too and want to be prepared

•Bring your ID, social security card, proof of new address (like a utility bill), and your most recent tax return just to be safe. Oh, and patience. Lots of patience 😅

Has anyone tried faxing in an address change form? I heard that might be faster than calling or going in person.

Just a heads up, make sure you change your address with USPS too. Sometimes the IRS mail doesn't get forwarded properly and you dont want to miss any important notices.
