Need to reach IRS agent ASAP - Any tricks to bypass long wait times?
Hey everyone, I need to get in touch with the IRS but I'm dreading the long wait times. Has anyone had any luck getting through to a live agent recently? Any tips or tricks to make the process less painful? I've got some tax questions that I really need answered.

I found a way to solve long IRS wait times, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yB2C61lIHyM

Ugh, calling the IRS is the worst. I spent 3 hours on hold last week and then got disconnected. It's like they don't want us to reach them 🙄

•Same here! I've tried calling at different times of the day, but it's always a nightmare. There has to be a better way.

•Pro tip: try calling right when they open. I got through in about 45 minutes last time I did that.

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•$20 just to talk to the IRS? That's ridiculous. The government should make it easier to reach them without having to pay extra.

•I get the skepticism, but for me, it was worth it. Saved me hours of frustration and lost productivity. Sometimes you gotta spend money to save time.

•I've used it too. Worked like a charm. Beats sitting on hold all day!

Here's what I've learned from my many, many attempts to reach the IRS: 1. Early morning calls (right when they open) tend to have shorter wait times. 2. Avoid Mondays and tax season if possible. 3. Have all your info ready before you call. 4. Be super nice to the agent when you finally get through. 5. If you get disconnected, cry a little, then try again tomorrow. Hope this helps someone out there in the same boat!

•Great advice! I'd add: use the IRS website to see if you can find answers before calling. Sometimes you can avoid the call altogether.

•Preach! 🙌 It's like they're stuck in the 1990s or something.

•Totally agree. We need to push for better funding and modernization of the IRS. This is ridiculous in 2023.

Quick question - does anyone know if theres a specific number for tax form questions vs. payment issues? Or do they all go to the same place?

LPT: If you're eligible, try using the Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can sometimes help you navigate IRS issues without the crazy wait times.

•What's the criteria for using the Taxpayer Advocate Service? Never heard of it before.

•They typically help if you're experiencing financial hardship, if the IRS hasn't responded to you within 30 days, or if you believe an IRS system/procedure isn't working as it should. Check out their website for more details!

Honestly, at this point I'm considering hiring a tax professional just to deal with the IRS for me. Anyone had experience with that? Is it worth the cost?

•I did it last year and it was a game changer. Expensive, but they handled everything and I didn't have to stress about it.

•Depends on how complicated your tax situation is. For basic stuff, probably not worth it. But if you've got a complex return or ongoing issues, it can be a lifesaver.
