Need help reaching IRS about wage withholding issues - any tips?
Hey everyone, I'm having some issues with my wage withholdings and I need to talk to the IRS about it. Has anyone had any luck getting through to them lately? I've been trying to call but it's been impossible to reach a real person. Any tips or advice would be really appreciated!

Ugh, good luck with that. I've been trying to get through to the IRS for weeks now. It's like they don't want us to talk to them or something š

ā¢Same here! I've spent hours on hold only to get disconnected. It's so frustrating!

ā¢Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through.

ā¢Yeah, I've tried that too. No luck. It's like playing the lottery at this point š«

I actually found a way to get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

ā¢How long did it take for them to call you back?

ā¢It took about 2 hours for me, but it varies depending on how busy they are. Still way better than doing it yourself!

Have you tried adjusting your withholdings through your employer first? Sometimes that can solve the issue without needing to contact the IRS directly.

I feel your pain, OP. The IRS is a nightmare to deal with. I've been trying to sort out my withholdings for months now. It's like they're purposely making it difficult for us š¤¬

Here's what I've learned about dealing with IRS wage and withholding issues: ⢠First, double-check your W-4 form with your employer. Make sure it's filled out correctly and reflects your current situation. ⢠If you need to make changes, you can submit a new W-4 to your employer at any time. ⢠Use the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator tool on their website. It can help you figure out if you're withholding the right amount. ⢠If you still need to talk to the IRS, try calling their dedicated line for tax withholding questions: 1-800-829-1040. ⢠Call early in the morning or late in the day, preferably mid-week. Avoid Mondays and tax season if possible. ⢠Be prepared with all your documents and questions before you call. ⢠If all else fails, consider using a tax professional or enrolled agent who might have better access to IRS resources. Hope this helps! Dealing with the IRS can be a pain, but persistence usually pays off.

Have you considered sending a written inquiry instead? Sometimes that can be more effective than trying to call.

ā¢Yeah, but then you're waiting weeks for a response. Not great if you need answers ASAP.

ā¢True, but at least you have a paper trail. Can be helpful if things get complicated.

Pro tip: if you can't get through on the phone, try contacting your local Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can sometimes help with IRS issues.
