This is why we need major reform in our social safety net. The system is clearly not equipped to handle crises like COVID. It's failing the very people it's supposed to help. We need to vote for representatives who will prioritize fixing these broken systems.
Jean Claude, I'm so sorry you're going through this. As someone who works with families in crisis, I want to make sure you know about a few resources that might help while you're fighting EDD: 1. CalFresh (food stamps) has emergency provisions for homeless families - you can apply with no address 2. WIC if your child qualifies - they have special provisions for homeless families 3. 211 (dial 2-1-1) connects you to local resources including emergency housing assistance 4. Many counties have emergency rental assistance programs that can help prevent further displacement For EDD specifically, definitely try the assemblymember route - use any previous address or a friend's. Also, some legal aid societies have special EDD units now because this is such a widespread problem. You're not alone in this fight. Keep documenting everything and don't give up. Your child needs their mom to keep fighting, and you've got this! 💪

Pro tip: If you're expecting a large refund, consider adjusting your estimated tax payments for next year. It's better to keep that money in your business than give the state an interest-free loan.

Has anyone dealt with the FTB sending a "Notice of Proposed Assessment" during a refund review? I got one last week and I'm not sure if this is normal or if it means there's a problem with my return. The notice is asking for additional documentation, but my refund status online still shows "processing." Should I be worried? 😰
