When will EDD 1099-G forms be available after working part-time during benefits?
Can someone explain the timeline for EDD sending out 1099-G forms when you're working part-time while on UI benefits? I called EDD today about when to expect my tax form, and they told me they're waiting for quarterly reports from my current employer before they can finalize it. I'm only working about 17 hours a week while receiving partial unemployment. Does anyone know when employers typically submit these quarterly reports? I'm trying to file my taxes early this year since I'm expecting a decent refund and would rather not wait until April. I'm getting anxious because my tax preparer is already asking for all my documents!

Employers submit their quarterly wage reports to EDD by the end of the month following each quarter (January 31, April 30, July 31, and October 31). That said, EDD is supposed to issue all 1099-G forms by January 31st regardless, as that's the IRS deadline. Some employers might be late with their Q4 reporting, but EDD should still send your form based on what they know through Q3 and then potentially issue a corrected form later if needed. Have you checked UI Online? Your 1099-G might already be available electronically even if you haven't received the paper copy yet.

•Thanks for the detailed info! I did check UI Online but nothing's there yet. So they should technically have my info through September already? That's really helpful to know. I'll keep checking online daily.

•Ugh, mid-February?! That's what I'm worried about. Did you have to keep calling them or did it just show up eventually?

They're required BY LAW to get those 1099-Gs out by January 31st! Don't let them give you excuses about quarterly reports - that's THEIR problem not yours. If they don't have it to you by the legal deadline, call them and demand to speak to a supervisor. This happens EVERY YEAR and they get away with it because people don't hold them accountable!!

•While you're technically correct about the Jan 31 deadline, the reality is many government agencies struggle with this timeline. If the 1099-G isn't available by Feb 7th, then I'd recommend following up, but demanding supervisors right away tends to be counterproductive. EDD processes millions of these forms and they do prioritize accuracy over speed, especially with part-time earnings that need verification.

I went through this exact situation last year when I was working part-time at Target while collecting partial UI. You can actually estimate what your 1099-G will show by adding up all the payments you received in 2024 (check your payment history in UI Online). That's what I did and then gave my tax guy the estimated amount so he could prepare everything else. Then when the actual 1099-G came (mine was February 10th), we just verified the number was correct. Saved me like 3 weeks of waiting!

•That's really smart! I hadn't thought of that. I'll go through my payment history and add everything up. Thanks for the suggestion!

Has anyone here tried Claimyr? I was having similar issues trying to contact EDD about my missing 1099-G last year, called like 36 times and kept getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to a rep in like 20 minutes. They have this video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. It basically bypasses the phone tree so you don't have to keep redialing. Might be worth it if you keep hitting dead ends trying to reach them.

•Yeah it actually does. I was super skeptical too but I was desperate after trying for days. Got connected to an actual human who helped resolve my issue.

I'm an accountant and we deal with this every year. The EDD usually has most 1099-Gs available by mid-January, but for people with partial wages where there might be reporting discrepancies, they sometimes take longer. Don't panic if you don't have it by January 31st. Many of my clients don't get theirs until the first or second week of February. If you're receiving a paper copy, add another 5-7 days for mail delivery. And remember you legally have until April 15th to file your taxes, so there's still plenty of time.

•Thank you, that's reassuring to hear from a professional! I'm just anxious to get my refund, but you're right that there's still plenty of time.

This happened to me in 2022 and 2023 and I had to file my taxes without the 1099-G once and just estimated my UI income. Had to file an amendment later when I finally got the 1099-G. Such a pain! My sister works for the state (not EDD) and she said that state agencies are always behind on everything because they're understaffed and use outdated computer systems. Did you try calling the dedicated 1099-G phone line? It's different from the regular EDD number.

•Just to clarify, estimating your UI income is not recommended by tax professionals. If you file without the official form and your estimate is incorrect, you'll need to file an amended return which can delay any refund and potentially trigger an IRS review. It's better to wait for the official form or request a duplicate through UI Online if the original is delayed.

Update: Thanks everyone for the advice! I managed to get through to EDD this morning (only had to call 7 times lol). They confirmed they're processing the final quarterly report from my employer and my 1099-G should be available online within 10 days. The representative also showed me how to see my total benefit amount for 2024 in the UI Online system which matches what I calculated using my payment history. I feel much better now knowing everything is on track!

•That's great news! Glad you got confirmation. And now you know for next year too - the payment history total always matches what shows up on the 1099-G in my experience.
