Need help with EDD extension process - where to start?

Hey everyone, I'm trying to get an extension for my EDD benefits. Has anyone gone through this process recently? Any tips or advice would be really appreciated. I'm not sure where to start or what to expect.

I found a way to solve EDD benefits extension application process, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDzwbk_0IYs

I just went through this last month. It's a bit of a hassle, but not impossible. First, you need to log into your EDD account and check if you're eligible for an extension. If you are, there should be a button or link to apply for it. Make sure you have all your documents ready before you start!

Thanks for the info! Do you remember how long the process took from start to finish?

It took about 2 weeks for me, but I've heard it can vary. Some people get approved faster, others might take up to a month. Just keep checking your account for updates.

2 weeks? You got lucky! I've been waiting for over a month now 😭

Ugh, good luck. The EDD system is a nightmare rn. I've been trying to get through on the phone for days with no luck.

Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through.

0 coins

Yeah, I've tried everything. Early morning, late afternoon, different days of the week. No luck so far 😞

I found a way to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Wow, really? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

0 coins

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

Idk man, paying to get through to a government agency? Seems kinda wrong.

I get it, but when you're desperate and need answers, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. 🤷‍♂️

Make sure you keep certifying for benefits even while waiting for the extension to be processed! I made that mistake and it caused a huge delay in my payments.

Has anyone had luck with the online chat feature? I've been trying to use it but it always says 'all agents are busy' no matter what time I try.

0 coins

The online chat is a joke. I've never gotten through. It's like trying to win the lottery 🎰

I actually got through once! ...only for the agent to disconnect after 2 minutes. 🤦‍♂️

Here's what worked for me: 1. Log into your EDD account 2. Check for any new messages or alerts about extensions 3. If eligible, there should be a link to apply for the extension 4. Fill out the application carefully - double check everything! 5. Submit any required documents promptly 6. Keep certifying for benefits while you wait 7. Check your account daily for updates 8. If you don't hear anything after 2 weeks, try to contact them Remember, patience is key. The system is overloaded, so things might take longer than usual. Good luck!

This is super helpful, thank you so much for breaking it down like this!

Great advice! I'd add: take screenshots of everything you submit, just in case.

anyone else feel like theyre drowning in bureaucracy? this whole process is so overwhelming 😫

Preach! 🙌 It's like they make it complicated on purpose

Hang in there! We're all in the same boat. This too shall pass 🚣‍♀️

Pro tip: If you're having trouble understanding the extension process, check out the EDD YouTube channel. They have some surprisingly helpful videos that break down the steps.

Wow, I had no idea they had a YouTube channel. Thanks for the tip!

Just a heads up, I heard they're implementing a new system update next month. Might want to try and get your extension sorted before then, just in case it causes any glitches.

I'm currently going through the extension process too and wanted to share what I've learned so far. The key is to stay on top of it and not wait until your benefits run out. I logged into my EDD account last week and saw the extension option was available. The application itself wasn't too bad - just make sure you have your employment history and any relevant documents ready. One thing that helped me was calling early in the morning (around 8:05 AM) when they first open - I actually got through after about 45 minutes on hold. Also, don't forget to keep doing your weekly certifications even while the extension is being processed. Hope this helps and good luck to everyone dealing with this process!

Thanks for posting this question - I'm in the exact same situation! Reading through all these responses has been super helpful. I'm going to try logging in early tomorrow morning to see if the extension option shows up in my account. It's reassuring to know that even though the process can be frustrating, people are getting through it. I really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences and tips here. Fingers crossed we can all get this sorted out soon! 🤞

Same here! I've been putting off dealing with this but seeing everyone's experiences makes me feel more confident about tackling it. @Kennedy Morrison thanks for the tip about calling at 8:05 AM - I m'definitely going to try that tomorrow. It s'so helpful to have a community where we can share these kinds of practical tips. Good luck to all of us navigating this process! 💪

I went through the extension process about 3 months ago and wanted to share some additional tips that might help. First, make sure you screenshot every page of your application before submitting - I had a glitch where my application seemed to disappear and having those screenshots saved me hours of re-entering everything. Second, if you're self-employed or had multiple jobs, gather all your 1099s and W-2s beforehand because they might ask for them later. The waiting period was nerve-wracking for me (took about 3 weeks), but it's totally normal. One last thing - if you get any error messages during the application, don't panic and try to submit multiple times. Just wait a few hours and try again. The system gets overloaded, especially on Mondays. Hang in there, Lucas - you've got this! 💪

This is such great advice! I especially appreciate the tip about screenshotting everything - I never would have thought of that but it makes total sense given how glitchy government websites can be. The part about waiting a few hours if you get error messages is really helpful too. I've been guilty of frantically clicking submit multiple times when things don't work right away 😅 Thanks for sharing your experience and the encouragement!

Just wanted to add my experience to help out! I successfully got my extension approved about 6 weeks ago. One thing I didn't see mentioned much here is to check your spam/junk email folder regularly - EDD sent me some important updates there that I almost missed. Also, if you're having trouble with the online application, try using a different browser or clearing your cache. I kept getting stuck on one page using Chrome, but it worked perfectly in Firefox. The whole process took me about 3 weeks from application to approval. Don't get discouraged by the wait times - it's totally normal right now. Keep checking your account every few days and stay patient. You'll get through this! 🙏

Thank you so much for mentioning the spam folder tip! I would have definitely missed that. I just checked mine and found an EDD message from last week that I never saw. You probably just saved me weeks of wondering why I hadn't heard anything back. The browser suggestion is really smart too - I've had issues with government sites not working properly in certain browsers before. It's amazing how these little technical details can make such a big difference in the process. Really appreciate you taking the time to share these practical tips! 🙌

I'm going through this exact same process right now and it's been such a roller coaster! Started my application about 10 days ago and I'm still waiting to hear back. One thing that really helped me was creating a simple checklist of all the documents I might need before I even started - employment records, bank statements, ID, etc. Also, I learned the hard way to keep detailed notes of every phone call, including the date, time, and representative's name/ID number if they give it. The system can be frustrating but seeing all these success stories gives me hope! Thanks for asking this question - it's so reassuring to know we're all going through this together. Sending good vibes to everyone dealing with EDD right now! ✊

Diego, your checklist idea is brilliant! I wish I had thought of that before I started my application - I ended up scrambling to find documents halfway through and almost lost my progress. The note-taking tip for phone calls is so smart too. I've been keeping a little notebook just for EDD stuff and it's already saved me from repeating information to different reps. It really does help to know we're all in this together - this whole thread has been like a lifeline for me. Hope you hear back soon! 🤞

I'm in a similar situation and this thread has been incredibly helpful! Just wanted to add that I found it useful to set up text alerts in my EDD account so I get notified immediately when there are any updates. Also, if you're still working part-time while claiming benefits, make sure you report those earnings accurately during the extension process - any discrepancies can really slow things down. The documentation requirements can seem overwhelming at first, but once you get organized it's definitely manageable. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it makes this whole process feel less intimidating knowing others have successfully navigated it! 🙂

The text alerts tip is genius! I had no idea that was even an option - I've been obsessively checking my account multiple times a day like a maniac 😅 Just went in and set those up right now. And you're absolutely right about reporting earnings accurately - I've heard horror stories about people having to pay back money because of reporting errors. It's such a relief to see so many people sharing practical advice like this. Makes me feel way more confident about getting through this process successfully!

I'm currently in week 2 of waiting for my extension approval and wanted to share a few things I learned that might help others. First, I discovered that the EDD website actually has a "case status" page that's separate from your main account dashboard - you can find it under "Contact EDD" then "Check Status." It gives more detailed info about where your application stands. Also, I started keeping a simple spreadsheet tracking all my interactions (dates, reference numbers, etc.) which has been super helpful. One more tip - if you have to upload documents, make sure they're under 5MB and in PDF format, otherwise they might not go through properly. The waiting is definitely stressful but reading everyone's experiences here has been so reassuring. Hang in there everyone - we've got this! 💪

Wow, thank you so much for mentioning the separate "case status" page! I had no idea that existed and have been driving myself crazy just refreshing my main dashboard over and over. Just found it and it actually shows way more detail about my application status. The spreadsheet idea is really smart too - I've been trying to keep track of everything in my head which obviously isn't working very well 😅 And good to know about the file size limits for document uploads, I would have definitely tried to upload something too big and gotten frustrated when it didn't work. This whole thread has been like a masterclass in navigating EDD - so grateful for everyone sharing their tips and experiences!
