EDD suddenly cut off my benefits after 15+ years of work - How to get extension?
Hey everyone, I'm in a tough spot. My unemployment benefits just got cut off and I'm trying to figure out how to get them extended. I've been working for over 15 years and suddenly got laid off. The weird thing is, I saw something online about benefit extensions, but I haven't gotten any mail about it. Has anyone dealt with this before? What should I do when I finally get through to EDD? I'm feeling pretty lost here.

Ugh, I feel ya. The EDD system is such a mess rn. Here's what I'd do: 1. Get all your docs ready - layoff notice, past benefit statements, etc. 2. When you call, explain your situation clearly. Mention the 15+ years of work and the online notice about extensions. 3. Ask specifically about the steps for extending benefits and what docs they need. 4. Follow up on EVERYTHING they tell you to do. Don't give 'em any excuse to deny you. Good luck! The system's broken, but hang in there 💪

•This is solid advice. I'd add: take notes during the call! You might need to reference what they said later.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Sounds sketchy af. You sure this isn't a scam?

•Nah, it's legit. I was skeptical too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo

•How long did it take to get through? I'm desperate but $20 is a lot rn

•It took about 2 hours for me, but I didn't have to sit by the phone the whole time. Way better than doing it myself

This happened to me last month. Turns out there was a glitch in their system and my extension didn't process automatically. Had to call and bug them for days before they fixed it. Don't give up!

•Oh man, that's frustrating. How long did it take them to fix it once you got through?

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 mins on hold last week. Also, be super nice to the rep, even if youre frustrated. They deal with angry people all day and are more likely to help if youre pleasant.

Have you checked if youre eligible for any other types of assistance? Food stamps, rental assistance, etc? Might help tide you over while you sort this out
