Money Network Card payment delay - shows as paid but not on card yet

So frustrating! My certification was processed and my EDD account shows my weekly benefit amount ($475) was paid TODAY, but when I check my Money Network card balance, there's absolutely nothing there - not even showing as pending! This happens every time and makes me so anxious. Has anyone else experienced this? How long does it typically take for the funds to actually post to the card once EDD shows the payment date? Should I be worried or is this normal? I've got rent due in 3 days and really counting on this payment.

This is totally normal. EDD payment dates and actual Money Network card deposits rarely happen on the same day. Usually takes 24-48 hours after the payment date in your EDD account for the funds to actually show up on your card. I've been collecting benefits for 6 months and it's never been immediate - even though logically it should be! Bank holidays can also delay it further. I wouldn't start worrying unless it's been 3+ business days.

Thank you! That's a huge relief. I wish they'd make this clearer on the website. So you think I should see it by tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest?

I HATE the Money Network card!! Every single time there's some delay or weird issue. One time my payment date was Thursday and didn't get the money until MONDAY!! Called EDD and they said "oh it's the bank not us" called Money Network and they said "oh it's EDD not us" - NOBODY TAKES RESPONSIBILITY!!! Now I just assume any payment will take AT LEAST 2 days longer than whatever date EDD shows. The system is BROKEN!!

This happened to me too! The worst was over Labor Day weekend when it took 5 days to post. I was so mad but couldn't reach anyone.

EXACTLY!! And then they act like WE'RE the problem for being upset about not getting OUR MONEY when they said we would!! 🤬

The payment process has two distinct steps that explains the delay: 1. First, EDD processes your certification and marks it as "paid" in their system - this is the date you see in your UI Online account. 2. Second, EDD sends the payment instructions to Bank of America (who manages the Money Network card program), and they process the deposit to your card. This transfer between systems typically takes 24-48 hours on regular business days. Bank holidays, weekends, and high-volume periods can extend this. You should see your payment by Wednesday at the latest, assuming today isn't a holiday. If you want to avoid these delays in the future, you can set up direct deposit to your personal bank account instead of using the Money Network card. Just go to your UI Online account, select "Payment Methods" and follow the instructions to set up direct deposit.

Thank you for such a detailed explanation! I think I'll definitely look into setting up direct deposit - that sounds much more reliable. Do you know if switching to direct deposit is complicated? I'm always nervous about making changes to my claim.

Setting up direct deposit is pretty straightforward. Just make sure you have your bank account and routing numbers ready when you do it. The change usually takes effect for your next payment cycle. And don't worry - changing your payment method doesn't affect your claim status or eligibility in any way.

My brother said he called EDD about this exact issue last month because his card wasn't showing the payment for 3 days. He used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an EDD rep right away instead of waiting on hold forever. They have this video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The EDD rep told him the payment was already processed on their end and would show up on the card soon, which it did the next day. Might be worth calling to check on yours if it doesn't show up by tomorrow.

Yeah, my brother said it worked for him. Got through to a rep in like 15 minutes. Definitely better than waiting all day or getting the "too many callers" message and being hung up on.

I've been on unemployment since January and the Money Network card is always slower than EDD's payment date. But I've noticed a pattern - my payments almost always post at around 11pm on the day AFTER my payment date shows in UI Online. So if your payment date is Monday, check your card balance late Tuesday night. That's when it typically shows up for me.

That's super helpful to know! I'll check late tomorrow night then. Fingers crossed!

When I was on EDD last year I noticed that my payments would post to my Money Network card faster if I certified really early on Sunday morning (like 12:01am) instead of later in the day. Not sure if that still works but might be worth trying for your next certification.

wait... can we switch to direct deposit now?? i thought we HAD to use the money network card? anyone know how to change this??

Yes, you can definitely switch to direct deposit! I've been using it for months now. Go to your UI Online account, look for the Payment Methods section, and you should see the option to switch to direct deposit. You'll need your bank account and routing numbers. The change usually takes effect with your next payment. SO much better than dealing with the card delays.

UPDATE: The money just posted to my card! It took about 36 hours from when the payment date showed in my EDD account. Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance! I'm definitely going to look into switching to direct deposit based on the advice here.

Great news! Glad it worked out. And yes, direct deposit is definitely the way to go if you have a regular bank account.

So glad you got your payment! This is exactly why I always tell people not to panic when there's a delay between EDD showing "paid" and the Money Network card actually having the funds. The 24-48 hour window is pretty standard, though it can feel like forever when you're waiting for money you need. Direct deposit really is a game changer - I made the switch about 6 months ago and never looked back. The funds typically hit my bank account the same day or next business day after EDD processes the payment. Much more reliable than dealing with the card system delays!

That's really encouraging to hear about direct deposit! I'm definitely going to make the switch - dealing with the anxiety of wondering when my money will actually show up is just not worth it. Quick question though - when you switched to direct deposit, did you have to wait for anything special or did it just automatically start with your next payment cycle? I want to make sure I don't mess anything up with the timing.
