Help with staggered parental leave - case stuck in pending status
Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out my parental leave case. It's currently in pending status and I'm not sure what to do next. I'm planning to take my leave in segments, but I'm confused about how to set that up. Has anyone gone through this process before? Any advice on how to handle staggered parental leave?

Congrats on the new addition to your family! π I went through this last year, and it can be a bit confusing. When are you planning to take each segment of your leave?

β’Thanks! I'm thinking of taking 2 weeks right after the birth, then 4 weeks when the baby is 3 months old, and the rest when they're 6 months. Is that even possible?

β’Yep, that's totally doable! Just make sure you communicate those dates clearly to your HR department and in your parental leave application. They might need you to fill out separate forms for each segment.

β’Oh man, more forms π© But thanks for the heads up! I'll talk to HR tomorrow.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone about this stuff. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

β’Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

β’I was skeptical too, but it really worked for me. Saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo

Ugh, the parental leave system is such a mess. I'm in the same boat and its been nothing but headaches. Good luck, OP!

Here's what you need to know about staggered parental leave: β’ You can indeed take your leave in segments β’ Each segment needs to be at least two weeks long β’ You must complete all leave within 12 months of the birth/adoption β’ You need to give your employer 30 days notice before each segment β’ Your job is protected during your leave β’ Benefits continue during your leave Make sure to document everything and keep copies of all your paperwork. The system can be a bit slow, so start the process early! Hope this helps!

β’This is super helpful, thank you so much! π I didn't know about the 30 day notice thing, that's good to keep in mind.

β’Great info! Quick question - does the 30 day notice apply for the first segment too, or just the later ones?

β’Good question! The 30-day notice applies to all segments if possible, but they usually understand that the first segment might be less predictable due to the nature of childbirth. Still, give as much notice as you can!

β’ikr? It's like they want us to give up and not take the leave we're entitled to π€

Has anyone had luck getting their case out of pending status quickly? I've been waiting for weeks and I'm starting to panic...

β’Try calling first thing in the morning, like right when they open. Sometimes you can catch someone before the lines get crazy.

β’I emailed them every day until they responded. Squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that π€·ββοΈ
