EDD website access issues during holiday weekend - anyone know current status?
Has anyone been able to log into UI Online today? My partner has been trying to certify for benefits since 8am and keeps getting error messages or the site just times out completely. We're worried because her certification is due by midnight tomorrow and with the holiday weekend, we're not sure if the site is on some reduced maintenance schedule or something. Does anyone know if the EDD website is actually up and running properly right now? Or if there are specific hours we should try during the holiday weekend when it might be less busy? Getting pretty anxious about missing the certification deadline!

•Ugh, that's exactly what we're seeing too. Have you tried calling them? We're debating whether it's even worth trying to call during a holiday weekend.

The website should still be operational over the holiday weekend, but it often runs maintenance during off-hours (typically between 12am-5am). The system tends to be overwhelmed on Sundays and Mondays because that's when most people certify. Your best bet is trying very early morning (5:30-6:30am) or late evening after 10pm when traffic is lighter. Don't wait until tomorrow - if you miss the certification deadline, you'll need to call EDD to reopen the certification week.

•Thank you! We'll try super early tomorrow morning. Do you happen to know if they'll extend the deadline because of the holiday weekend technical issues?

•They rarely extend deadlines automatically, but if you document your attempts (screenshots of errors) and call, they can often reopen the certification period for you. Just be prepared to explain that you tried multiple times during the holiday weekend.

Just a heads-up, I was able to get through about 30 minutes ago. The trick is to use the mobile site rather than the desktop version - it seems to be handling the traffic better. Also try clearing your browser cache and cookies before attempting to log in again. The holiday shouldn't affect the website's availability, just the call centers.

EDD is THE WORST with their website!!!! This happens EVERY holiday weekend but they never warn anyone or extend deadlines! I missed certification once because of this exact problem and had to call 42 TIMES before getting through to fix it!!!! The whole system is designed to make people give up on their benefits!!!!

After dealing with this exact situation during Memorial Day weekend, I finally found a solution. I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to actually reach an EDD representative when the site was down. They got me connected with an agent who manually processed my certification over the phone. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The rep told me that during holidays their servers often get overloaded but the phone system can still process certifications. Might be worth keeping as a backup option if you still can't get through online by tomorrow.

•Thanks for the suggestion! We'll definitely keep that as our backup plan if we can't get through online. It's good to know there's a way to reach an actual person if needed.

i think theres two different problems people mix up. theres the ui online account where you certify and the regular edd website with general info. the general website almost never goes down but the ui online certification system crashes all the time especially sunday mornings. also dont confuse disability account (sdi online) with unemployment (ui online) cuz they use different systems.

•This is an important distinction. UI Online (where you certify) and the main EDD website are indeed separate systems. And you're right that the UI Online system gets particularly overloaded on Sunday mornings when most people try to certify at once.

Update: We finally got through using the mobile site suggestion and completed the certification! For anyone else having this issue, try using your phone instead of computer, and do it either very early morning or late at night. Thanks everyone for your help!

•Great to hear! Make sure to save/screenshot your confirmation number for the certification just in case. The system sometimes shows a successful certification but doesn't actually process it until later.

This reminds me of when I was on unemployment last year during the 4th of July weekend and had the EXACT same problem! I ended up having to go to the library on Monday because my home internet was spotty and I was desperate. By the way, sometimes the site works better if you use Microsoft Edge or Firefox instead of Chrome - something about the way the EDD site is coded.
