EDD UI Online system down during certification weekend - anyone else locked out?
Seriously frustrated right now! I've been trying to certify for my UI benefits since 6AM this morning and keep getting the 'The system is currently unavailable' message on UI Online. My rent is due on Tuesday and I NEED this payment to process on time. Is EDD's website down for everyone or is it just targeting me specifically to ruin my weekend? Anyone else having trouble accessing the certification page today? Any idea when they typically get these issues fixed?

•At least I'm not alone! Have you had this happen before? How long did it take them to fix it last time?

This happens almost every certification weekend when too many people are trying to certify at once. The system usually gets overloaded Sunday mornings especially. Your best bet is to try again very late tonight (after midnight) or early Monday morning around 5am when fewer people are on the system. The payments will still process on time if you certify by Monday afternoon.

I had this same issue last month and ended up wasting an entire weekend trying to get through. Finally gave up and called EDD on Monday, but of course couldn't get past the automated system. Then I found this service called Claimyr that got me connected to an actual EDD rep in about 20 minutes! They have this system that basically holds your place in line and calls you back when they have an agent. Saved me hours of redial hell. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video demo of how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. The rep told me that system maintenance is scheduled for certain weekends and they don't always announce it.

•Thanks for this! I'm going to try the late night suggestion first, but if that doesn't work I'll definitely check out that service tomorrow. Did the rep tell you why they don't post warnings about scheduled maintenance? Seems like they could at least put up a notice!

The EDD UI Online system is experiencing higher than normal traffic right now due to the end of the quarter reporting requirements from employers combined with regular certification traffic. Based on previous similar outages, these system issues typically resolve within 24-48 hours. A few tips: 1. Try using the UI Mobile app instead of the website if you haven't already 2. Clear your browser cache and cookies if using the website 3. Certification can be completed up to 14 days after your regular certification date without penalty 4. Payments typically process within 24-48 hours after certification regardless of which day you certify If you're concerned about your rent being due, remember that even with the slight delay, your payment should still process in time if you can certify by Monday.

•Thank you! I didn't know about the 14-day window. That makes me feel a little better. I tried the mobile app too but got the same error. Will try clearing cache now and then again later tonight.

Is nobody going to talk about how this happens LITERALLY EVERY OTHER MONTH?? I've been on unemployment since January and the system has crashed at least 3 times during certification weekends. I called my assembly member's office after the second time and they said EDD is "aware of the issue" but doesn't have the budget to upgrade their systems. Our tax dollars at work, folks! 🙄

•I worked in IT for 20 years and I can tell you their systems are running on outdated technology from the 90s. My brother-in-law used to work for the state and said they actually still have COBOL code running some of their processes. During certification weekends, their servers just can't handle the load. The pandemic just made everything worse because they never upgraded the infrastructure.

For anyone still having issues, I found that using Edge browser worked when Chrome didn't. Something about the security certificates. Also double check you're going to the official https://edd.ca.gov site and not clicking on any links from emails that might be scams. Lot of those going around lately trying to steal unemployment info.
