EDD conditional payment stuck after ID verification - how long till benefits resume?

I've been dealing with this conditional payment hold for weeks now. EDD flagged my account for ID verification, and I sent in all the required documents through ID.me on February 13th. They confirmed receipt, but my benefits are still on hold! It's March 2nd now and I'm getting really worried about making rent this month. I can see in my UI Online account that the documents were received, but there's no update on when the conditional payment hold will be lifted. Has anyone gone through this recently? How long did it take for your benefits to start flowing again after they received your ID verification? I've tried calling but can't get through the automated system.

EDD is currently taking 2-3 weeks to process ID verification documents after receipt. Since they got yours on Feb 13th, you should expect resolution by March 6th at the latest. Make sure you keep certifying for benefits during this waiting period even though payments aren't coming through. Once they verify your identity, all pending payments should be released at once.

Thx for the info! I've been certifying every week like normal. Is there any way to check the status of the verification process? The UI Online dashboard doesn't show much...

6 WEEKS?? I can't wait that long! I'm already behind on bills from the weeks they've held my payments. Do you think calling would help speed things up?

I had the exact same situation in January. After submitting my ID verification docs, I couldn't get through to EDD on the phone for days. Then I discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they got me connected to an EDD rep in about 25 minutes! The rep was able to review my verification docs while I was on the phone and lifted the hold immediately. Saved me weeks of waiting. Check out their demo video if you're curious how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

Never heard of that before. I'm desperate at this point so might give it a try. Did they ask for any specific info when you called?

Just have your claim ID number, last 4 of SSN, and date of birth ready when you get connected to the EDD rep. The agent I spoke with looked up my account, saw my documents were already in the system but just sitting in a queue, and processed them while I was on the call.

This ID verification delay is happening to so many people right now. Here's what you need to know: EDD processes identity verification in batches, and there's a serious backlog. When I was waiting for mine, I found that sending a message through your UI Online account specifically asking about the status of your ID verification can sometimes flag your account for faster review. Go to Contact EDD > Question Category: Payments > Question Topic: Conditional Payment. If you've already waited more than 3 weeks, that's beyond their current processing time and you should definitely call. Be prepared to explain that you submitted verification on Feb 13 and it's now beyond their stated processing timeline.

I'll try sending that message right now. Should I mention anything specific about financial hardship or just ask about the status? And thanks for the exact menu options!

Yes, definitely mention financial hardship - that can help prioritize your case. Be specific about bills you're struggling to pay and include the exact date they received your documents. And keep certifying for benefits every two weeks, even with the hold in place.

Thanks for the support. 17 days would put me at around March 2nd, which is today! Maybe I'll check my account again later...

It's critical to understand how the conditional payment process actually works. When EDD flags your account for identity verification, they create what's called a "stop payment alert" in their system. After receiving your documents on February 13th, they entered an internal 10-day review queue. However, their current processing time is running 15-18 business days (not calendar days). You should expect resolution by approximately March 8-10. Continue certifying as normal during this period. If you don't see movement by March 10th, then you should contact EDD through UI Online AND attempt phone contact. One important note: if your verification was sent through ID.me, make sure you also completed the "authorize with EDD" step after verification. Many claimants miss this step and it delays their benefits.

This is super helpful, thank you! I did complete the "authorize with EDD" step right after the ID.me verification finished. I'll keep certifying and wait until March 10th before panicking more. Really appreciate the detailed timeline.

When I was going through identity verification last year, I spent TWO MONTHS with no benefits because of EDD's incompetence!!!! I submitted and resubmitted documents THREE TIMES and they still claimed they "never received them" even though I had confirmation emails!!!! The entire system is DESIGNED to deny legitimate claims and make us give up!!!! The only thing that worked was when I contacted my state assembly member's office and they intervened on my behalf. Don't waste your time with their phone system - it's BROKEN ON PURPOSE!!!!

That sounds like a nightmare, I'm sorry you had to deal with that. How do I find my state assembly member? I've never contacted one before.

Just Google "find my California state assembly member" and enter your address. Their offices have EDD liaisons who can work miracles compared to trying yourself. They fixed my issue in 3 days after I suffered for 2 months!!!

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know that I finally got through to EDD this morning! I used the Claimyr service that someone suggested here, and it actually worked - got me connected to a live agent in about 20 minutes. The agent confirmed they received my ID verification but it was still in the processing queue. She was able to expedite it while I was on the phone, and my conditional payment hold has been lifted! All my pending payments should be released in the next 24-48 hours. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your advice.

That's great news! Glad you got it resolved. Make sure you keep an eye on your UI Online account and your Bank of America EDD card (or direct deposit if you set that up) for the payments to come through.
