How long does EDD take to verify address documents? UI payments stuck in pending

Hi everyone, I'm getting really anxious about my unemployment claim status. I moved to a new apartment last month and EDD flagged my account for address verification. They sent me a request to upload proof of residence documents through UI Online, which I did immediately (rental agreement, utility bill, and driver's license). It's been 12 days now and my payments are still stuck in 'pending' status. I have bills piling up and I'm getting worried. Has anyone gone through this address verification process recently? How long did it take for them to review your documents and release your payments? I've certified for 2 weeks already but haven't received a penny since this verification issue started. Starting to panic a bit...

been there done that. took EDD almost 3 weeks to verify my address docs when i moved last yr. the system is sooooo slow rn. just keep certifying like normal and they'll eventually release all the pending payments at once.

3 weeks?! That's ridiculous! Did you call them at all or just wait it out? I'm worried because my landlord isn't exactly the patient type...

Address verification typically takes 10-14 business days (so excluding weekends) to process. Since you're at 12 days, you're still within the normal timeframe. I'd recommend waiting until you hit the 15 business day mark before getting too concerned. Make sure you uploaded clear, readable documents that show your name and current address. If your documents were blurry or partially cut off, that could cause delays. Continue certifying as normal, and when they do approve the verification, all pending payments should be released at once.

This isn't totally right. My address verification only took 4 days last month but my cousin's took almost a month. I think it depends on how backed up they are and if your docs are easy to verify. Seems totally random tbh.

THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING UNLESS YOU CALL THEM!!! I had the EXACT same issue in February and my payments were stuck for over a MONTH until I finally got through to a rep!!! They told me my documents were "in queue for review" and the rep manually pushed them through the system in literally 2 minutes once I got someone on the phone. The money was in my account the next day. The EDD system is BROKEN and they WON'T review your docs unless you call and bug them about it!!!

Wow, that's frustrating but good to know. I've tried calling like 20 times but keep getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message and then it hangs up. How did you actually get through to a real person?

I had to verify my address with EDD a few months ago and discovered Claimyr, which helped me get through to an EDD rep on my first try. I was getting the high call volume message for days until I used their service. Basically they hold your place in line and call you when they connect with an EDD agent. Got my address verification sorted out in one call. Check out their site at claimyr.com - they have a video demo that explains it better than I can: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Definitely better than calling 50+ times a day hoping to get through.

I've heard about Claimyr but wasn't sure if it was legit. Did it actually work that well? I might try it for my overpayment issue since I've been trying to reach EDD for weeks.

Yeah, it worked for me! I was skeptical too at first but was desperate after trying to call for three days straight. Got connected to an EDD rep within about an hour of using their service. The rep said my address verification docs were sitting in a queue and probably wouldn't have been reviewed for another week or two if I hadn't called.

just curious did u upload EVERYTHING they asked for? when i moved they wanted like 5 different types of proof and i only sent 3 at first which wasnt enough. then i sent my bank statement and utility bill and it got approved in like a week.

I uploaded my lease agreement, a utility bill, and my updated driver's license. The request didn't specify exactly how many documents they needed, just "proof of address." Maybe I should upload more? Like a bank statement too?

Three documents should be more than sufficient. The standard requirement is usually two forms of address verification. Having your lease, a utility bill, AND your driver's license with the updated address should cover all bases. Adding more documents at this point probably won't speed up the process and might actually reset your place in the queue.

my brother had this same issue last month!!! turns out the EDD didnt even LOOK at his docs for like 2 weeks and then when they did they said the utility bill wasnt clear enough so they needed something else!! make sure your docs are super clear and all info is visible. but yeah u prob need to call them to get it fixed faster. good luck!!

Quick question - are you on regular UI or SDI? If you're on SDI, the verification process is completely different and handled by a separate department. The timeframes people are mentioning here only apply to UI claims. Also, did you receive a specific notification requesting address verification, or did you just notice your payments were pending? Sometimes payments get held for other identity verification issues that aren't related to address changes.

I'm on regular UI, and yes, I got a specific message in my UI Online inbox asking for address verification because my mailing address changed. The message specifically said payments would be held until they could verify my new address.

i went thru this back in january when i moved. lemme tell ya what worked for me. instead of just waiting, i uploaded my docs AND ALSO mailed physical copies to the EDD office with a letter explaining my situation. payments started coming 4 days later! sometimes their online system gets backed up but the physical mail gets processed faster. weird but true! worth a shot if ur desperate.

That's actually a really good idea I hadn't thought of! Do you happen to know which address I should mail the copies to? Is it just the general EDD address?

i sent mine to the main edd office in sacramento. lemme find the address... ok its: Employment Development Department, PO Box 826880, Sacramento, CA 94280. make sure to write your claim # on everything!!

Just a follow-up tip: While waiting for address verification to be completed, make sure you're still doing your required work search activities and documenting them properly. Address verification won't affect your work search requirements, and you don't want to end up with a disqualification for not meeting those requirements once your address is verified. Also, keep certifying on time every two weeks even if payments are pending.

Thank you for the reminder! Yes, I've been keeping up with my work search activities and documenting everything. Just certified again yesterday actually. I'm going to try calling them tomorrow morning right when they open. Fingers crossed I can get through!

Update us when your payment finally goes through! I bet you'll end up having to call them to get it fixed. The system is designed to delay payments I swear!!

UPDATE: I finally got through to EDD this morning after using the Claimyr service that someone suggested. The rep confirmed my documents were valid but sitting in a queue waiting for review. She put a note on my account and manually verified my address while I was on the phone. She said my payments should switch from pending to paid within 24-48 hours! Such a relief. Thanks everyone for your advice - especially the recommendation to call rather than just waiting.

Great news! This is why speaking with a representative is almost always the fastest solution for these verification holds. They can often resolve these issues on the spot when you can get through to them.

That's such great news! I'm so glad you got it resolved quickly once you actually spoke to someone. This is exactly why I always tell people not to just wait around hoping EDD will get to their documents - the system really does seem to work better when you get a human involved. Hopefully your payments come through in the next day or two as promised. Thanks for updating us with the resolution too, it's really helpful for others who might be going through the same thing!

This whole thread has been super helpful! I'm actually dealing with a similar address verification issue right now (just moved last week) and was starting to panic after reading horror stories online. Seeing that it got resolved so quickly once you called gives me hope. Definitely going to try the Claimyr service if I can't get through on my own. Thanks for sharing your experience and keeping us updated!

This is exactly why I always recommend calling EDD rather than just waiting when you have verification issues! The automated systems are so backed up but the reps can usually fix things instantly once you get through. I had a similar situation last year where my identity verification documents sat in their system for 3 weeks until I called - then it was resolved in 5 minutes. It's frustrating that you have to fight to get through their phone system, but it's almost always worth it. Glad to see Charlee got it sorted out! For anyone else dealing with this, definitely don't just wait around hoping they'll process your docs automatically.
