What documents can I use as proof of address for EDD identity verification?

I'm trying to complete my identity verification for my unemployment claim and I'm stuck on the proof of address part. I recently moved and don't have many documents with my current address. What options do EDD and ID.me accept as valid proof of address? Can I use a bank statement? My lease agreement? Would a letter from my roommate work? I need to get this sorted ASAP since my claim has been pending for over 2 weeks already!

I just went through this last month! For proof of address, ID.me will accept any of these: - Utility bill (electricity, water, internet, etc.) - Bank or credit card statement - Lease agreement - Mortgage statement - Vehicle registration - Property tax statement - Insurance statement (renters, auto, etc.) But the document MUST be dated within the last 60 days (except for lease agreements which can be older). And your name and address must match exactly to what you entered on your application. A letter from your roommate won't work - it needs to be an official document.

Thank you! My bank statement should work then. Do you know if it has to be the paper statement or can I print out the PDF from my online banking?

when i did id.me i used my car registration and it worked fine. they rejected my cell phone bill tho cause it was too old, had to be within 60 or 90 days i think can't remember exactly. just make sure whatever u use has ur EXACT name as it appears on ur drivers license

@profile5 Thanks for mentioning the name matching exactly. I just realized my bank statement has my middle initial but my driver's license has my full middle name spelled out. Will that be a problem??

Yes, that could definitely cause issues! When I was helping my sister with her verification, even small differences like middle initials vs. full middle names can trigger a rejection. I'd recommend finding a document where your name matches EXACTLY how it appears on your license.

ID.me was such a pain for me!!! I tried 4 different documents before they finally accepted my car insurance statement. They kept saying my documents weren't clear enough or the address wasn't visible. Make sure whatever you upload is super clear and shows the full page with your name and address. Good luck!

I work at a tax office and help clients with EDD issues all the time. Here's a comprehensive list of acceptable proof of address documents: 1. Utility bills (electric, gas, water, internet, cable) 2. Financial statements (bank, credit card, investment) 3. Insurance documents (health, auto, renters/homeowners) 4. Government documents (vehicle registration, property tax bills) 5. Lease or mortgage documents 6. Tax documents (W-2, property tax statements) 7. Pay stubs from current employer The document must be dated within 90 days (except for annual documents like lease agreements or tax forms). The name and address must match EXACTLY what's on your ID. Digital versions are acceptable as long as they clearly show all required information. One tip: If you're in a hurry, call your bank and ask them to generate a statement letter with your current address. Most can do this same-day and it's specifically designed for address verification purposes.

If you're having trouble getting through to EDD to ask questions about this (which is basically impossible), try using Claimyr. They got me connected to an actual EDD rep in under 25 minutes after I spent DAYS trying on my own. Totally worth it. You can see how it works at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km or go to claimyr.com. The rep I spoke with confirmed they accept digital bank statements as long as they're official (not screenshots).

Thanks for the tip! I've been calling EDD for 3 days straight and keep getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message. Might try this if I keep having issues with my documents.

DONT USE CELL PHONE BILLS!!! I tried using my T-Mobile bill and got rejected 3 TIMES!!!! EDD said cell phone bills aren't reliable proof of address. I finally used my car insurance statement and it worked immediately. This whole system is ridiculous - they make everything as difficult as possible on purpose!!! 😡

Actually, cell phone bills ARE accepted by ID.me, but there might have been another issue with your document. Perhaps it was too old or the address format didn't match exactly? I used my Verizon bill without any problems.

Has anyone tried using a voter registration card? I have that but not sure if it counts?

Yes, a voter registration card is accepted as proof of address as long as it's current and has your full name and address printed on it. It's considered an official government document.

UPDATE: I was able to use my bank statement! I downloaded the PDF from my online banking portal, made sure it had the bank logo and full statement details visible. It took about 24 hours for ID.me to verify everything, and then my EDD claim moved from pending to paid within 2 days after that. Thanks everyone for your help!

Congrats! Glad it worked out! Did you have to do a video call with them too or just upload the documents?

@profile6 I only had to upload documents. No video call needed. Everything went through the automated system.
