EDD ID.me verification with address mismatch - will my claim be delayed?

I just filed for unemployment last week and got to the ID.me verification step. My problem is that I moved 3 months ago, but my driver's license still shows my old address. I'm waiting for an appointment at the DMV next month to update it. For the ID.me verification, they're asking for a document that verifies my current address, but nothing I have matches my driver's license address. Will this cause my EDD claim to be denied or delayed? I'm really worried because I've been hearing horror stories about verification issues holding up payments for weeks. I just need to know if EDD is trying to verify I'm a California resident or if they need my exact current address to match something. Has anyone dealt with this address mismatch issue during verification?

Thank you! That's a relief. Did they ask you any questions about the address mismatch during the process?

The main purpose of the verification is to confirm your identity and that you're a California resident eligible for benefits. Your current address not matching your ID isn't automatically disqualifying. When going through ID.me, you'll need to provide your current address, and they may ask for supporting documentation like a utility bill, bank statement, or lease agreement with your name and current address. The important thing is that you can prove you are who you say you are and that you reside in California. Just be prepared to explain the discrepancy if asked during an eligibility interview. Make sure to update your contact information with EDD so you don't miss any important communications.

This is super helpful, thank you! I do have a utility bill and my lease agreement with my current address. I'll have those ready to upload. I'm just nervous because I can't afford any delays in my claim processing.

OMG I had this EXACT same issue in January!!! My license had my parents address but I was living in an apartment across town. I uploaded my apartment lease and a PG&E bill for the ID.me stuff and it worked fine. BUT then I got selected for an eligibility interview and the interviewer was really confused about my address situation and kept asking me a bunch of questions about where I actually lived. It was super stressful!! Make sure you can explain the situation clearly if they call you.

That sounds stressful! Did they end up approving your claim after the interview? How long did it take?

Yeah they approved it but it took like 2 extra weeks because of the interview. The whole process was SO frustrating. I wish I'd updated my license before filing but I didn't think it would be such a big deal!

I'd like to clarify something important here - the address verification is primarily to confirm you're a California resident, but there's another reason it matters. EDD sends important documents by mail, including your EDD Customer Account Number, which you need to register for UI Online. They also mail your EDD debit card if you choose that payment method instead of direct deposit. So make sure your current mailing address is correctly listed with EDD, even if it doesn't match your ID. You can update your contact information in your UI Online account once it's set up.

just saying edd and id.me are diffrent systems so u might hav to deal with this twice. id.me first then maybe edd asks again later

I didn't realize that. So even after I get through ID.me verification, EDD might question my address again?

If you're having trouble reaching EDD to discuss this address situation, try Claimyr. I was stuck in a similar verification loop for weeks, unable to get through on the phone. Claimyr connected me with an EDD rep in about 20 minutes who cleared everything up. They have a service that helps you bypass the busy phone lines. Check out their demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km and their website at claimyr.com. Saved me weeks of stress trying to get through to explain my situation.

This is exactly why the EDD system is so terrible. They make everything so complicated with all these verification hoops. My cousin has been waiting 9 weeks because of some ID issue. The whole system is designed to delay payments and make people give up. They should just have ONE system instead of making us deal with ID.me AND EDD verification!!

To address your follow-up questions: The verification process has two parts - ID.me (which verifies your identity) and EDD's own verification (which confirms your eligibility for benefits). Here's what you should do: 1. For ID.me: Upload your ID plus documents showing your current address (utility bill, lease agreement, bank statement) 2. For EDD: Ensure your current mailing address is listed in your application 3. Be prepared to explain the address discrepancy if you get an eligibility interview phone call 4. Keep checking your UI Online account for any pending issues or required actions Most importantly, don't panic if there's a slight delay. Address mismatches are common and usually resolved with proper documentation. Just be honest and consistent with your information.

Thank you so much for breaking this down! I'll gather all those documents and make sure my current address is correctly listed in my application. I feel much better about navigating this now.
