EDD closed, waiting for callback about extended benefits eligibility. What to expect?
Hey everyone, I just got a text saying EDD closed last night and I'll get a call when they open again this morning. I need to check if I qualify for extended benefits. Anyone else in the same boat? What should I expect when they call?

Ugh, the EDD system is such a mess. I've been trying to get through for weeks. Good luck with your call!

•Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that's the best time to get through.

•Yeah, I've tried everything. Early morning, late afternoon, even during lunch. No luck so far 😫

When they call, make sure you have all your employment info ready. They'll probably ask about your last job, when it ended, and why. Also, have your claim number handy if you have one.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•I was skeptical at first too, but it really worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

•20 bucks tho? Thats kinda steep for something that should be free 🤔

•I get it, but for me, it was worth it to finally talk to someone and get my issues sorted out.

Extended benefits can be tricky. It depends on your work history and the current unemployment rate. When I applied, they looked at my earnings over the past 18 months. Make sure you have all that info ready!

•Thanks for the tip! Do you remember what specific documents they asked for?

•They wanted my W-2s and pay stubs. If you've had multiple jobs, bring info for all of them. Better to have too much than not enough!

Here's what you need to know about extended benefits: • They're only available when unemployment is high in your state • You must have exhausted your regular unemployment insurance • Your benefit amount might be different from your regular UI • You'll need to continue certifying for benefits weekly • They may ask about your job search efforts Be prepared to answer questions about why you think you qualify. Have you been actively looking for work? Did you turn down any job offers? These things can affect your eligibility. Also, keep in mind that the rules for extended benefits can change based on state and federal laws. What was true a few months ago might not be the case now. Good luck with your call! Let us know how it goes.
