EDD/SDI Call-In Notice for SDI Extension - What to Expect?
Hey everyone, I just got a call-in notice from EDD/SDI asking me to call about my SDI extension. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I expect when I call? I'm a bit nervous about the whole process and could use some advice.

I went through this last month. It's not as bad as you might think! They'll probably just ask you a few questions about your condition and why you need the extension. Make sure you have all your paperwork ready, including any doctor's notes or medical records. Good luck!

•Thanks for the info! Did they ask for any specific documents? I want to make sure I have everything ready.

•They asked for my most recent doctor's note and a brief statement about why I needed more time. Nothing too crazy, but def have those handy!

•Ugh, I wish I had known this before I called. I was totally unprepared and had to call back. 🤦♂️

Bro, good luck getting through to anyone. I've been trying for WEEKS and can't get a human on the line. The whole system is a joke. 🤡

•I found a way to get through! There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Yeah, I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate. It actually worked tho. Saved me hours of frustration.

Just a heads up, make sure you're really clear about why you need the extension. They can be pretty strict about approving them. I had to appeal my first request because I wasn't specific enough.

Does anyone know if theres a limit to how many extensions you can get? Im on my second one and worried they might cut me off soon 😰

•I think it depends on your condition and what your doctor recommends. I've heard of people getting up to 3 or 4, but don't quote me on that.

Pro tip: Call right when they open in the morning. I got through in like 10 minutes doing that. Also, be super nice to the person who answers - they deal with angry people all day and being kind can go a long way!

Here's a detailed breakdown of what to expect and how to prepare for your SDI extension call: 1. Have all your documents ready: - Original claim information - Doctor's latest evaluation - Any new medical evidence - Employment status update 2. Be prepared to explain: - Why you need more time - How your condition has changed or not improved - Your treatment plan and expected recovery time 3. Know your rights: - You can request a supervisor if you're not satisfied - You have the right to appeal any decision 4. Take notes during the call 5. Follow up with any requested additional info ASAP Remember, stay calm and be honest. They're there to help, even if the process is frustrating. Good luck!

Anyone else feel like they need a law degree just to navigate this stuff? 🤔 I swear, half the battle is just understanding what they're asking for.

Just went through this process last week. Here's a tip: if you get denied, don't give up! Appeal that decision. I got approved on appeal when I provided more detailed medical info. Stay persistent!

Has anyone had luck getting an extension for mental health reasons? My doctor recommended it but I'm worried they'll give me a hard time.

•I did! It was tough, but with proper documentation from my therapist and psychiatrist, they approved it. Don't let anyone invalidate your struggles. Mental health is health, period.

I just wanted to add that timing can really matter with these calls. I had my extension call scheduled for 2pm on a Wednesday and the rep seemed much more patient and thorough than when I called during their busy Monday morning hours. Also, don't be afraid to ask them to repeat information or slow down if they're going too fast - you have the right to understand what's being discussed about YOUR case. Writing down the rep's name and reference number at the start of the call can be super helpful too if you need to follow up later!

•This is such great advice! I never thought about timing making a difference. Definitely going to try calling mid-week instead of Monday morning. The tip about getting the rep's name and reference number is brilliant too - I've had to call back before and had no way to reference my previous conversation. Thanks for sharing these practical tips!

I had my SDI extension call about 3 months ago and it was actually pretty straightforward! The key things that helped me were: 1) Having my doctor's most recent report that clearly stated I wasn't ready to return to work yet, 2) Being able to explain in simple terms how my condition was still affecting my ability to do my job, and 3) Having my original claim number handy. The whole call took maybe 15-20 minutes. One thing I wish I knew beforehand - they might ask about any part-time work or income you've had while on disability, so be prepared to discuss that honestly if it applies to you. You've got this! The anticipation is usually worse than the actual call.

•This is so reassuring to hear! I've been stressing about this call for days, but your experience sounds much more manageable than I was imagining. The 15-20 minute timeframe is really helpful to know - I was picturing like an hour-long interrogation or something 😅 I definitely need to make sure I have that doctor's report ready and can explain my situation clearly. Thanks for the heads up about the part-time work question too - I haven't done any but good to know they might ask. Really appreciate you sharing your experience!

I'm going through the same thing right now! Just got my call-in notice yesterday and I've been reading through all these comments - you all are lifesavers! 🙏 I'm feeling way less anxious now. One question though - for those who've done this, how long did it take to get your extension approved after the call? I'm trying to plan my finances and wondering if there's usually a gap in payments or if it's pretty seamless. Also, should I be worried if my doctor's note is from 3 weeks ago, or is that still recent enough? Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!
