EDD claim reopen confirmation never showing up - tried twice with no updates
I'm so frustrated with this weird EDD glitch! I lost my job in construction last month and tried to reopen my UI claim (had one about 9 months ago). On May 2nd, I completed the entire reopen claim application, got to what I thought was a confirmation page, but nothing happened after that. When I logged back in this week, my UI Online dashboard STILL shows the message "You may need to reopen your claim" as if I never did anything! I thought maybe I messed up, so I redid the whole application yesterday and even took a screenshot of the confirmation page this time. The weird part? When I tried to download the confirmation PDF, it just disappeared! Checked again today and my homepage still shows that same "You may need to reopen your claim" message. Is the system broken? Are they processing it but not updating my UI Online account? Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm getting worried because I need to start certifying soon.

This exact thing happened to me in February. The EDD system has a weird glitch where sometimes the reopen claim request gets received but doesn't update your UI Online dashboard. In my case, I waited about 10 days and suddenly my homepage updated with weeks to certify. The system processed my request even though it never showed any confirmation. You could wait another week to see if it updates automatically.

•Thanks for sharing your experience! Did you get any kind of notification when it finally went through? Like an email or text? Or did you just happen to check and notice it had updated?

•Oh no, that's exactly what I'm afraid of! I really don't want to have to start all over again. Did they at least backdate your claim to when you first tried to reopen it?

•ya they did backdate it but it took FOREVER to get the money. like 6 more weeks

The UI Online system and the internal EDD processing systems don't always sync up properly. Here's what you should do: 1. Wait 7-10 business days from your first application attempt (so until about May 13-16) 2. If no update by then, call EDD directly at 1-800-300-5616 3. Be prepared with the date you first submitted your reopen claim request 4. Ask specifically if they can see your reopen claim request in their system 5. If they can't find it, ask them to process it while you're on the call This is a known issue that happens when there's high claim volume. The dashboard doesn't update but your application might still be in their backend system.

•Thank you for these specific steps! I'll wait until the 14th (that'll be 12 days after my first attempt) and then try calling if nothing changes. I've heard the EDD phone lines are almost impossible to get through though...do you have any tips for that part?

•You're right about the phone lines - they're extremely difficult to get through. The best times to call are right when they open at 8:00 AM or between 1:00-2:00 PM when staff return from lunch. Avoid Mondays and Tuesdays as those are the busiest days. If you get the "too many callers" message, hang up and immediately redial - sometimes you can break through after 5-10 attempts. Be prepared to spend 1-2 hours on this process between getting through and resolving your issue.

I've had success using Claimyr to get through to EDD when I had this EXACT same problem last year! The confirmation issue is super common but almost impossible to fix without talking to a real person. I wasted DAYS trying to get through on my own, then used claimyr.com and got a callback from EDD in about 45 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Basically they hold your place in the phone queue and call you when an agent is available. The rep I got was able to see my application in their system even though my UI Online showed nothing.

•That sounds like it might save me a lot of frustration! I'll check out that video. Did the EDD rep find your application right away, or did they have to search for it?

•They had to search for it using my SSN and the date I submitted it. It was in their system but stuck in some weird processing limbo. The rep manually pushed it through and my UI Online updated within 24 hours with weeks to certify. Just make sure you have all your application dates and screenshot ready when they call.

•is that service legit? seems kinda sketchy to me

•It worked for me! I was skeptical too, but I was desperate after trying to call for 3 days straight. They just call EDD for you and connect you when they get through. My claim was stuck for weeks before that and fixed in one day after talking to someone.

•I actually didn't think to check there! Just logged in and checked - nothing in the inbox. But that's a good tip to keep checking there regularly. I'll add that to my daily routine. Thanks!

This is a CLASSIC EDD technical issue that's been happening since they updated their system in late 2024. The problem is that the reopen claim applications are getting stuck in a validation queue because the system doesn't properly recognize returning claimants who had claims more than 6 months ago but less than 12 months ago. It's total bureaucratic nonsense!!! You can wait for it to resolve (which sometimes happens randomly) or you can call, but good luck getting through to anyone who knows what they're doing. The whole system is designed to make you give up. I had to call 37 TIMES before getting through last time I had this problem!!! Make sure you document EVERYTHING - screenshots, dates, times. You might need it for the inevitable appeal when they mess something else up.

•Oh wow, 37 times?! That's insane. And that's interesting about the 6-12 month window issue - my previous claim was about 9 months ago, so that fits exactly with what you're describing. Thanks for explaining the technical side of what might be happening.

Maybe a stupid question but did you check that you're logging into the correct account? My husband and I were both on unemployment last year and he kept checking the wrong account wondering why his new claim wasn't showing up. Just a thought!

•Not a stupid question at all! But yes, I'm definitely in the right account - I can see my claim history from last year and all my personal info is correct. I wish it was something that simple!

I wanted to follow up with an important point: If more than 14 days pass since your first attempt, you should definitely call EDD. The reason is that if your claim eventually gets processed, they typically only backdate benefits to the Sunday of the week you submitted the reopen request. If there's a system error and your application gets lost, you could potentially lose weeks of benefits. Don't wait too long thinking it will resolve itself.

•That's a really good point about the backdating! I didn't even think about potentially losing benefits. I'll definitely make calling a priority if it's not resolved by next week. Thank you for that important reminder.

Any updates on your situation? Did the UI Online dashboard ever update, or did you have to call in?

•Nothing yet! It's been 9 days since my first attempt and still showing the same message. I'm going to give it until Monday (that'll be 13 days) and then try calling or using that Claimyr service someone mentioned. Will update here when something changes in case others have the same issue in the future.
