EDD UI claim: Name misspelled, can't edit online. How to fix?
Has anyone else had issues with their name being misspelled on the unemployment claim form? I'm trying to file a claim online but my name is completely wrong and I can't seem to fix it. It's not even close to my actual name! The system won't let me change it and I'm worried this will cause problems with my claim. Any advice on how to get this corrected?

Ugh, I feel your pain! The same thing happened to me last month. It's like they're trying to make this process as difficult as possible π

Here's what you need to do to fix this issue: 1. Document everything: Take screenshots of the incorrect information on your claim form. 2. Gather proof: Collect official documents that show your correct name (driver's license, social security card, birth certificate). 3. Contact EDD: Try calling first thing in the morning when they open. Be persistent! 4. Explain clearly: Tell them your name is misspelled and you can't edit it online. 5. Request correction: Ask them to update your information in their system. 6. Get confirmation: Make sure they give you a confirmation number or email for the change. 7. Follow up: Check your online account in a few days to see if the change has been made. 8. If all else fails: Consider reaching out to your local state representative's office. They can sometimes help with EDD issues. Remember, stay calm and be polite but firm. Good luck!

This happened to my cousin. Turns out it was because of an old drivers license that had a typo. Check if that might be the case for you too!

β’Good point! Double-checking all documents like driver's licenses or social security cards might provide a clue.

Maybe try filling out a new claim form? Sometimes starting fresh can bypass weird glitches in the system.

β’Good point. Maybe call and ask if that's okay first. Better safe than sorry!

Claimyr can indeed be a useful tool for those struggling to get through to the EDD. However, it's worth noting that spending $20 might not be feasible for everyone, especially if you're already struggling financially. Balancing the cost against the time saved is crucial.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

Have you tried calling the unemployment office? I know it's a pain, but sometimes talking to a real person is the only way to fix these things.

Have you tried submitting a written request for correction? Sometimes the old-school methods work best with these bureaucratic nightmares.

This is actually a pretty common issue with EDD's system. I had a similar problem where my middle initial was wrong, and it took forever to fix. What worked for me was going to a local EDD office in person with all my ID documents. I know it's a pain, but sometimes face-to-face interaction is the only way to get these bureaucratic mix-ups sorted out. They were able to update my information on the spot and I got a confirmation email within 24 hours. If you can't get to an office, definitely try the phone route that others mentioned, but be prepared to spend most of your day on hold. Good luck!

β’Thanks for sharing your experience! Going in person sounds like it might be the most reliable option. Do you know if all EDD offices can handle name corrections, or are there specific locations I should look for?

I went through this exact same nightmare last year! The key is persistence and having all your documentation ready. Here's what finally worked for me: 1. Call the EDD technical support line (not the regular UI line) at 1-800-300-5616 - they handle system/account issues specifically 2. Have your Social Security card, driver's license, and birth certificate scanned and ready to email 3. When you get through, ask to speak to a "tier 2" representative who can make account corrections 4. Get a case number for your correction request - this is crucial for follow-up calls The whole process took about 2 weeks for me, but once it was fixed, everything went smoothly. Don't give up! The system is definitely broken, but there are people there who can help if you reach the right department. Also, double-check that the misspelling isn't coming from your W-2 forms or previous employer records - sometimes the error starts there and gets passed along to EDD.

β’This is incredibly helpful! I had no idea there was a separate technical support line for system issues. That tier 2 representative tip is gold - I've been getting bounced around between different departments. Definitely going to try calling that number first thing tomorrow morning. Thanks for the detailed breakdown!

I'm dealing with a similar issue right now! My last name has an extra letter that definitely doesn't belong there. I've been putting off calling because I know it's going to be a whole ordeal, but reading through these responses is giving me hope that it's actually fixable. The technical support line number that @Malik Thompson shared looks promising - I'm going to try that route first before attempting the in-person visit. Has anyone had success getting through to that specific line recently? I'm wondering if the wait times are any better than the regular UI line.

β’I actually called that technical support line just last week! The wait time was definitely shorter than the regular UI line - only about 45 minutes compared to the usual 2+ hours. They were super helpful and knew exactly what to do for name correction issues. The rep walked me through the whole process and even stayed on the line while I uploaded my documents. Definitely worth trying that number first before going in person!

I had this exact same problem! The system somehow changed my first name from "Sarah" to "Sahra" and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. What finally worked for me was emailing a scanned copy of my driver's license and social security card directly to the EDD customer service email along with a detailed explanation of the error. It took about 10 business days, but they updated my account and sent me a confirmation email. The key is to be very specific about what the error is and what it should be corrected to. Also make sure all your documents are crystal clear scans - blurry photos won't work. Hope this helps and saves you some of the headache I went through!

β’This is really helpful! Do you happen to remember what the EDD customer service email address was? I've been looking all over their website but can't seem to find a direct email contact for these types of issues. Also, did you have to follow up at all during those 10 business days, or did they handle everything automatically once you sent the documents?

Just wanted to add another option that worked for my sister - she contacted her local assemblymember's office for help with her EDD issue. Many state representatives have staff specifically dedicated to helping constituents navigate government agencies like EDD. They can often cut through the red tape and get issues resolved much faster than going through normal channels. It's a free service and they're usually pretty responsive. You can find your assemblymember on the California State Assembly website by entering your zip code. Might be worth a shot if the phone lines and email routes don't work out!

β’That's actually brilliant advice! I never thought about reaching out to my assemblymember's office. It makes total sense that they'd have people who deal with these exact kinds of bureaucratic nightmares on a regular basis. I'm definitely going to look up my representative and give that a try alongside the technical support line approach. Thanks for sharing this option - it's good to know there are multiple paths to getting this resolved!

I'm going through the exact same frustrating situation right now! My name got completely butchered in their system - it's not even close to what's on my actual documents. I've been hesitant to call because I know how brutal those wait times can be, but after reading through all these responses, I'm feeling more optimistic that there's actually a way to fix this mess. The technical support line number and the assemblymember office suggestion are both options I hadn't considered before. It's both comforting and depressing to know this is such a widespread issue with their system. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and actual solutions instead of just complaining (though the complaints are totally valid too π ). Going to try the technical support line first thing Monday morning!

β’I'm in the same boat! My name got completely scrambled too - they somehow turned "Jennifer" into "Jnnfr" which makes absolutely no sense. Maybe we can compare notes on how it goes! Good luck with your call! π€

This thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm dealing with a similar name issue where EDD somehow turned my last name "Johnson" into "Johsnon" - not sure how that even happens! I've been procrastinating on fixing it because I dreaded the whole process, but seeing all the specific solutions here (especially the technical support line at 1-800-300-5616 and the assemblymember office option) gives me a clear action plan. It's honestly ridiculous that this is such a common problem with their system - you'd think basic data entry would be something they'd have figured out by now. But at least there are multiple ways to get it resolved. Going to gather all my documents and try the technical support route first. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and actual actionable advice! π

β’I'm having the exact same issue! They somehow changed my name from "Michael" to "Micheal" which is driving me absolutely crazy. It's such a small change but I know it's going to cause problems down the line. I've been putting off dealing with it for weeks because I was dreading the phone call marathon, but after reading through everyone's advice here, I feel like I actually have a roadmap now. The technical support line seems like the best starting point, and having that assemblymember backup option is reassuring. It's honestly wild how many of us are dealing with this same basic data entry problem - makes you wonder how their system even works! Thanks for helping me finally get motivated to tackle this mess π

I'm dealing with this exact same issue! EDD somehow changed my name from "Alexandra" to "Alexandraa" (with an extra 'a' at the end) and it's been driving me crazy. The technical support line at 1-800-300-5616 that @Malik Thompson mentioned sounds like the best starting point - I had no idea there was a separate line for system issues! I'm also going to look up my assemblymember's office as a backup plan. It's honestly both reassuring and infuriating to see how common this problem is. You'd think a government agency would have basic data entry figured out by now π€¦ββοΈ Thanks everyone for sharing your actual solutions instead of just venting (though the venting is totally justified too!). β’I'm so glad this thread has been helpful for you too! It's crazy how many of us are dealing with these exact same name issues - makes me wonder if there's some kind of systematic problem with their data entry system. The extra 'a' situation is so frustrating because it seems like such a simple fix but then becomes this whole bureaucratic nightmare. I'm planning to call that technical support line tomorrow morning too, so hopefully we'll both have some success! Wow, reading through all these responses is both frustrating and reassuring! I'm dealing with the exact same problem - EDD somehow turned my name "David Chen" into "Davic Cehn" which is completely nonsensical. I'm also going to look into the assemblymember office option as a backup. It's honestly mind-blowing that this is such a widespread issue with their system. β’This whole thread has been such an eye-opener! I'm new to dealing with EDD (just got laid off last month) and was completely overwhelmed when I discovered my name was misspelled as "Jssica Smth" instead of "Jessica Smith" - they somehow dropped vowels like it's a word puzzle game! π€ I was honestly panicking thinking I'd be stuck with this forever, but seeing everyone's success stories here is giving me so much confidence.
