NYDOL Direct Deposit Issue: Mother's Maiden Name Keeps Showing as Incorrect
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with my direct deposit info for unemployment. The system keeps saying my mother's maiden name is incorrect. I've triple-checked everything and I'm sure it's right. Has anyone else run into this issue? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Ugh, I had the same problem last month. It's so frustrating! Have you tried calling the unemployment office? They might be able to help you sort it out.

•I've been trying to call for days but can't get through. The hold times are insane 😫

•Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 20 minutes on hold that way!

•Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a shot tomorrow morning 🙏

Have you considered that maybe there's a typo in how they have your mother's maiden name recorded in their system? It might not be your mistake at all.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•I was skeptical too, but I used it and it actually worked. Saved me hours of frustration.

•20 bucks tho? Thats kinda steep for just a phone call 🤔

•I get it, but for me it was worth it. I was losing my mind trying to get through on my own.

This whole system is a joke. They make it so hard to get your benefits on purpose, I swear. 🤬

Have you tried using a different browser or clearing your cache? Sometimes these government websites are finicky with that stuff.

OK, so here's what you need to do: 1. Double-check the spelling of your mother's maiden name. Make sure there are no extra spaces or weird characters. 2. Try entering it in all caps. Sometimes the system is case-sensitive. 3. If that doesn't work, check if you have any documents from when you first applied for unemployment. The maiden name should match what you initially provided. 4. If all else fails, you might need to verify your identity again. Look for an option to reset your security questions or verify via mail. 5. As a last resort, you can try to file a complaint with the unemployment office. Sometimes that gets their attention faster. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up! 💪

Have you checked if your mother changed her name at some point? My grandma had a different maiden name than what my mom thought it was. Caused all sorts of headaches with official documents.

•Huh, I never thought of that. I'll ask my mom about it. Thanks for the idea!

•My cousin works in IT for the state. Take it with a grain of salt, but he's usually in the know.

I had this exact same issue a few months back! What worked for me was checking if there were any hyphens or apostrophes in the maiden name that I was missing. My mom's maiden name is O'Brien and I kept entering it as OBrien without the apostrophe. Also, try checking if you used the maiden name exactly as it appears on your Social Security card - sometimes there are slight variations. Hope this helps!

•Oh wow, the apostrophe thing is so smart! I bet that's exactly what's happening. Government systems are notorious for being picky about special characters. I'm definitely going to double-check for any hyphens, apostrophes, or spaces that might be missing. Thanks for sharing what worked for you! 🙌

•This is such a good point! I had a similar issue with my hyphenated last name on a different government form. @Miguel Ortiz you should definitely check your mom s'actual Social Security card or birth certificate to see the exact formatting. Sometimes what we think is the correct "spelling" isn t'what s'officially on record. These systems are so literal!
