EDD system shows wrong DOB - How to fix?

Hey everyone, I just found out my date of birth is wrong in the unemployment system. Has anyone else dealt with this? How did you fix it? I'm worried it might mess up my claim.

Ugh, that sucks. I had a similar issue last year. It's a pain to fix, but you gotta do it ASAP. Call the EDD and explain the situation. They'll probably make you send in some documents to prove your real DOB.

Good luck getting through on the phone tho 🙄 I've been trying for weeks!

True, the phone lines are a nightmare. I ended up using this site called claimyr.com. It costs $20 but it actually got me through to a real person. Here's a video about how it works: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😤

I know it sounds crazy, but after wasting hours trying to get through, it was worth it for me. Saved me a ton of stress.

omg this happened to me too! turns out they had my bday as 1922 instead of 1992 lol. i was like, do i look 100 years old to u?? 👵🏼

Here's what you need to do to fix your date of birth with EDD: 1. Gather your documents: birth certificate, driver's license, passport, or any official document with your correct DOB. 2. Call EDD customer service. Be prepared to wait or use a service to get through. 3. Explain the situation to the rep. They'll likely ask you to submit a written request for correction. 4. Send a letter to EDD with your request. Include copies (not originals) of your documents. 5. Follow up in 2-3 weeks if you don't hear back. 6. Once corrected, double-check your online account to make sure it's updated. Remember, persistence is key. Don't let this slide or it could cause problems with your claim later on. Good luck!

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed guide! Really appreciate it. I'll get started on this right away.

This is great info. Wish I had this when I was dealing with my issue last month. Took me forever to figure out the process.

0 coins

have you tried updating it online? sometimes you can fix small errors in your profile without calling

0 coins

I looked but couldn't find any option to change my DOB online. Seems like they lock that info down pretty tight.

Ah bummer. guess youll have to brave the phone lines then. may the odds be ever in your favor lol

I swear the EDD system is held together with duct tape and prayers at this point. How do they mess up something as basic as a birthdate? 🤦‍♂️

0 coins

For real tho. My claim has been pending for 3 months cuz of some glitch. It's like they're stuck in the stone age or smthn

0 coins

y'all should see the ancient computers they use. My friend works there and says some of their systems are older than us 💀

Quick tip: When you finally get through to someone, ask for a direct number or extension. Sometimes they'll give you one, which can save you hours next time you need to call.

OP, whatever you do, don't ignore this. My cousin had the wrong SSN in the system (off by one digit) and it took him 6 months to get his benefits sorted out. Fix it now before it becomes a bigger headache!

Yikes, that sounds awful. Thanks for the warning. I'm definitely gonna tackle this ASAP.

Has anyone else noticed that EDD seems to make these 'mistakes' a lot? Makes you wonder if it's on purpose to make claiming benefits harder... 🤔

Take off the tinfoil hat, bro. It's just good old-fashioned government inefficiency at work 😂

0 coins

lol maybe. but you gotta admit, it does make you think sometimes...

Pro tip: If you're having trouble getting through on the phone, try calling right when they open or about an hour before they close. Sometimes the wait times are shorter then.

Guys, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone without waiting for hours. There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it saved me so much time and frustration. Here's a video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Are you sure it's legit?

0 coins

Yeah, I was skeptical at first too. But I tried it out of desperation and it actually worked. Saved me hours of hold time.

0 coins

How long did it take for them to get you through to someone?

0 coins

It took about 2 hours for me, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music the whole time. They just called me when they got an agent.

I had this exact same problem! My DOB was entered as 1985 instead of 1995. Here's what worked for me: I sent a message through the EDD online portal with a clear photo of my driver's license and birth certificate. It took about 3 weeks, but they fixed it without me having to call. Worth trying before dealing with the phone nightmare! Just make sure to explain clearly what the error is and include "DOB CORRECTION REQUEST" in the subject line.

Oh wow, the online portal worked for you? That's amazing! I tried looking for a way to submit documents online but couldn't find it. Where exactly did you find the messaging option? I'd much rather try that route first before dealing with the phone system from hell 😅

@Rajan Walker This is super helpful! I had no idea you could submit documents through the online portal. For those asking where to find it - when you log into your EDD account, look for Contact "EDD or" Ask "EDD in" the menu. There should be a secure messaging option there. I m'definitely going to try this approach first before attempting the phone maze. Thanks for sharing your experience!

This happened to me too! They had my birthday completely wrong - off by like 10 years. I was panicking because I thought it would mess up everything. I ended up calling early in the morning (like 8:05 AM right when they opened) and actually got through in about 45 minutes. The rep was super helpful and fixed it on the spot once I gave them my SSN and answered some security questions. She said it's actually pretty common and they can usually fix simple data entry errors pretty quickly once you get to talk to someone. The hard part is just getting through! Don't stress too much about it - just get it sorted ASAP like everyone else said.

That's really reassuring to hear! I was worried this would turn into some huge bureaucratic nightmare, but it sounds like once you actually get to talk to a human, they can fix it pretty easily. I'm going to try calling right at 8 AM tomorrow and see if I get lucky. Fingers crossed! 🤞 Thanks for sharing your experience - it's nice to know there's light at the end of the tunnel.

Just want to add that when you do get through to someone, make sure to get a confirmation number or case number for your DOB correction request. I learned this the hard way - I thought my issue was fixed after talking to a rep, but nothing actually got updated. When I called back weeks later, there was no record of my previous call. Now I always ask for some kind of reference number so I can follow up if needed. Also, if possible, try to get the rep's name or ID number. It might help if you need to call back about the same issue. The EDD system is notorious for "losing" requests, so paper trail is everything!

This is such great advice! I never would have thought to ask for a confirmation number. The idea that they could just "lose" your request is terrifying but totally believable given all the horror stories I've heard about EDD. Definitely writing this down so I remember to ask when I finally get through to someone. Thanks for the heads up about getting the rep's info too - seems like covering all your bases is the only way to protect yourself in this system.

I went through this exact same nightmare last year! My DOB was off by one digit in the year (1991 vs 1981) and it caused a 2-month delay in my claim processing. Here's what I learned: Don't just call once and give up - you literally have to be persistent as hell. I called every single day for a week straight until I got someone who could actually help. Also, make copies of EVERYTHING - your birth certificate, ID, Social Security card, the whole works. Email yourself photos too as backup. One rep told me that DOB errors are actually one of the most common data entry mistakes they see, which is both reassuring and infuriating at the same time. The good news is once they fix it, it updates pretty much immediately in the system. But seriously, don't sleep on this - it WILL hold up your payments if you don't get it corrected ASAP. Good luck! 💪

This is exactly the kind of real-world experience I needed to hear! A 2-month delay sounds absolutely terrifying, but I'm glad you got it sorted out eventually. The fact that you had to call every single day for a week just to get help is insane though - like why can't they just have a proper system for handling these corrections? 😤 I'm definitely taking your advice about making copies of everything and being persistent. Better to be annoying than broke, right? Thanks for the motivation and the heads up about how common this issue is. Makes me feel less like I'm the only one dealing with EDD chaos!

Ugh, this is so frustrating but unfortunately super common with EDD! I went through something similar where they had my birth month wrong (March instead of May). What a mess! Here's my advice: definitely try the online portal route first like @Rajan Walker suggested - that's genius and way less stressful than the phone system. But if that doesn't work, I found that calling right at 8:00 AM sharp gave me the best chance of getting through. I literally had my phone ready at 7:59 AM and hit redial the second the clock hit 8:00. Also, once you do get it fixed, screenshot EVERYTHING in your account showing the correct info. I've heard horror stories of corrections mysteriously "disappearing" from the system later. Better safe than sorry with EDD! Don't panic though - it's definitely fixable, just takes some persistence. Sending you good vibes that you get this sorted out quickly! 🍀
