EDD claim shows wrong return-to-work date - How to fix?
Hey everyone, I'm having an issue with my unemployment claim. The expected return to work date on my claim is incorrect. Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm worried it might affect my benefits or claim status. Any advice on how to get this fixed?

Ugh, I had the same problem last month. It's so frustrating when they get these details wrong. Have you tried calling the EDD to get it corrected?

β’I've been trying to call for days but can't get through. It's like hitting a brick wall every time π«

β’Classic EDD... their phone lines are always jammed. Keep trying tho, early mornings seem to work best for me.

β’Yeah, it's a total nightmare. Took me like 2 weeks of constant calling to finally get someone on the line. Hang in there, OP!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

β’Sounds too good to be true. Are you sure it's legit?

β’Yeah, I was skeptical at first too, but I gave it a shot out of desperation. It actually worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

β’20 bucks tho? That's kinda steep just to talk to someone...

β’I get it, but for me, it was worth it. Time is money, and I was wasting so much time trying to get through on my own.

Have you tried updating the info through your online account? Sometimes you can make changes there without having to call.

This happened to me too! turns out it was because my employer reported the wrong date. You might wanna check with them first before dealing with the EDD hellscape π€‘

β’Oh, I hadn't even thought of that. I'll definitely reach out to my employer. Thanks for the tip! π

Here's what you need to do to fix this issue: 1. Document everything. Write down the correct return-to-work date and any communications you've had about it. 2. Contact your employer first. They may have reported the wrong date, and it's easier to fix it from their end. 3. If your employer confirms they reported the correct date, then you need to contact EDD. 4. Try the online portal first. Look for any option to update your claim information. 5. If online doesn't work, you'll have to call. Be persistent and try early in the morning. 6. When you get through, explain the situation clearly and ask them to update your record. 7. Request a confirmation in writing of the change. 8. Follow up in a week if you don't see the change reflected in your account. Remember, any discrepancy in your claim can potentially affect your benefits, so it's crucial to get this sorted ASAP. Good luck!

Quick question - how far off is the date they have? If it's only a few days, it might not be worth the hassle of trying to change it.

β’It's actually off by about a month. My actual return date is much later than what they have listed.

β’Oh yikes, yeah that's definitely worth fixing then. A month could seriously impact your benefits.

I went through this exact same issue about 6 months ago! The key thing is to act fast because the longer you wait, the more complicated it gets. I'd definitely start with what @Aisha Hussain suggested - check with your employer first. In my case, it turned out my HR department had submitted the wrong paperwork to EDD. They were able to send a corrected form directly to EDD which fixed everything within about 2 weeks. If that doesn't work, I actually had success using the "Contact EDD" form on their website rather than calling. It took longer (about 3-4 weeks for a response) but at least I didn't have to deal with the phone nightmare. Make sure to include your claim number and be very specific about what needs to be corrected. Good luck!

β’Thanks for sharing your experience! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who's been through this exact situation. I'm definitely going to try the employer route first since a few people have mentioned that. The online contact form is a great backup option too - I hadn't thought of that alternative to calling. Really appreciate the detailed advice!

β’This is super helpful! I'm actually dealing with something similar right now and was dreading the phone calls. The online contact form sounds like a much better option for my sanity π Did you have to submit any additional documentation when you used the online form, or was just explaining the issue enough?

β’@Lucas Lindsey this is exactly what I needed to hear! I was getting so stressed about the whole situation but your step-by-step approach makes it feel much more manageable. I m'definitely going to start with my employer tomorrow morning - hopefully they can sort it out quickly like yours did. The online contact form is a great backup plan too. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience, it really helps to know there s'light at the end of the tunnel! π

I had a similar issue about 3 months ago and it was such a headache! What worked for me was actually going through my union rep (if you have one) - they have direct contacts at EDD and can sometimes get things resolved faster than going through the regular channels. If you don't have a union, try reaching out to your local assembly member's office. I know it sounds weird, but they often have staff who specialize in helping constituents with EDD issues and they can sometimes cut through the red tape. Just another option to consider if the employer/online form routes don't pan out. The whole system is so broken but there are workarounds if you know where to look!

β’That's such a smart idea about contacting the assembly member's office! I never would have thought of that approach. It's crazy that we have to get creative like this just to fix basic errors in the system, but I'm glad there are people out there willing to help navigate the bureaucracy. Thanks for sharing that tip - definitely keeping it in my back pocket in case the other methods don't work out!

I'm dealing with something similar right now and this thread has been a lifesaver! Just wanted to add that if you do end up having to call EDD, I've found that calling right at 8:00 AM sharp when they open gives you the best chance of getting through. Also, don't hang up if you get the busy signal - sometimes if you wait a few seconds it will actually connect you to the hold queue. I learned this trick from a friend who used to work there. It's still a pain but slightly better odds than calling later in the day when everyone else is trying too. Hope you get it sorted out soon!

β’Thanks for that calling tip! I've been trying to get through for weeks with no luck. The 8 AM sharp strategy makes total sense - I bet most people don't think to call right when they open. And that trick about waiting through the busy signal is gold! π This whole thread has been so helpful for all of us dealing with EDD issues. It's frustrating that we have to jump through so many hoops for basic corrections, but at least we're all helping each other figure out the system!

Just wanted to jump in and say this thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm actually dealing with a similar issue where my return-to-work date is showing as 3 weeks earlier than it should be. Reading through everyone's experiences and advice has given me a solid game plan. I'm going to start with contacting my employer first thing tomorrow since several people mentioned that worked for them. If that doesn't pan out, I'll try the online contact form route before attempting the phone gauntlet. It's so reassuring to know there are multiple approaches to try and that other people have successfully gotten this fixed. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - this community is amazing! π

β’I'm so glad this thread has been helpful for you too! It's amazing how much collective wisdom there is here. Your approach sounds really smart - definitely worth trying the employer route first since that seems to have the highest success rate based on what people are sharing. And having that backup plan with the online form gives you options without having to deal with phone hell right away. Keep us posted on how it goes! I'm sure your experience will help the next person who runs into this issue. This community really is the best for navigating all the EDD chaos πͺ

This is such a common issue unfortunately! I went through something similar last year and it was incredibly stressful. One thing that really helped me was keeping detailed records of everything - screenshots of the incorrect info, dates of when I noticed the error, any correspondence with employers, etc. This documentation became super valuable when I finally got someone on the phone at EDD. Also, if you have access to any kind of employee assistance program through your work (or former work), they sometimes have people who specialize in helping navigate these government benefit issues. I know it feels overwhelming right now, but based on all the great advice in this thread, you've got multiple paths forward. Don't give up - you'll get this sorted out!

β’This is such great advice about keeping detailed records! I wish someone had told me that at the beginning of my EDD journey. Documentation really is everything when dealing with government agencies. The employee assistance program tip is also brilliant - I completely forgot that was even an option. It's so helpful to have someone who actually knows how to navigate these systems on your side. Thanks for sharing your experience and for the encouragement! This whole thread has honestly restored my faith that there are solutions out there, even when the system feels impossible to work with.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now and honestly, this thread has been a game-changer! My return date is off by about 2 weeks and I was starting to panic about how it might affect my benefits. The step-by-step approach from @Aisha Hussain is perfect, and hearing that so many people have successfully resolved this gives me hope. I'm definitely going to start with my employer first thing Monday - it sounds like that's often the root of the problem anyway. The tip about calling at exactly 8 AM is also noted for backup! Has anyone had experience with how long it typically takes for the correction to show up in your online account once EDD processes it?

β’Hey Emma! I'm so glad this thread has been helpful for you too - it really shows how much we all support each other through these EDD struggles! From what I've seen others mention, once EDD actually processes the correction, it usually shows up in your online account within 1-2 weeks. But that's assuming everything goes smoothly on their end (which, let's be honest, isn't always guaranteed with EDD π ). When I had a similar issue corrected through my employer, it took about 10 business days to reflect online. Definitely keep checking your account regularly and don't hesitate to follow up if it takes longer than expected. The documentation tip from @Keith Davidson is spot on too - screenshot everything before and after! You ve'got this! πͺ

Just wanted to share my recent experience with this exact issue! I dealt with the same problem about a month ago where my return-to-work date was showing 3 weeks earlier than it actually was. I was so stressed because I thought it would mess up my entire claim. Following the advice that's been shared here (especially the step-by-step from @Aisha Hussain), I contacted my employer first and it turned out they had submitted incorrect paperwork to EDD. My HR department was actually really helpful once I explained the situation - they sent a corrected form directly to EDD within 2 days. The whole thing got resolved in about 2 weeks without me having to deal with the phone nightmare at all! One thing I'd add is to ask your employer for a copy of whatever correction they submit, just so you have it for your records. Also, keep checking your online account because the change showed up there before I got any official notification. This community has been such a lifesaver for navigating all the EDD chaos. Don't lose hope - there are definitely ways to get this fixed! π

β’This is exactly what I needed to hear! Thank you so much for sharing your success story - it's such a relief to know that this can actually be resolved without having to battle the phone system. Your point about asking for a copy of the correction paperwork is really smart, I wouldn't have thought of that but it makes total sense to have everything documented. And thanks for the heads up about checking the online account regularly since the change might show up before any official notification. It's so reassuring to hear from someone who just went through this exact situation and came out the other side successfully! This whole thread has been incredible - I feel like I actually have a solid plan now instead of just panicking about the mistake. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience! π
