EDD UI Online account suddenly locked - security questions not working even with correct answers
I'm in a total panic right now! Been working part-time at a retail job for about 4 months and collecting partial unemployment. Everything was going fine with my biweekly certifications until yesterday. Tried logging into my UI Online account to complete my certification (due tomorrow!) and got hit with a 'password incorrect' message. I KNOW I used the same password I've been using since January - I even have it saved in my notes app! Tried the 'forgot password' option and when I entered my security question answer, the system is telling me it's wrong! I'm 100% certain I'm entering the correct answer. Now my account shows 'locked' status and says I need to wait an hour before trying again. I tried again this morning, same error, still locked! I'm freaking out because I need to certify by tomorrow or I'll miss this payment period. Has anyone dealt with this security question/locked account nightmare? Will I have to call EDD directly to get this fixed? Their phone lines are impossible to get through... Any help appreciated!

This happened to me back in February! The security question system is super finnicky about exact formatting. Try these troubleshooting steps: 1. Make sure you're not using caps if your original answer didn't have them (or vice versa) 2. Check for spaces at the end of your answer 3. Try different browsers - sometimes UI Online has weird compatibility issues 4. Clear your browser cache and cookies If none of that works, unfortunately you will need to call. The regular EDD number probably won't help - you need the technical support line: 1-855-327-7057. They can manually unlock your account.

•Thanks for the tips! I just tried all your suggestions - no caps, no spaces, tried both Chrome and Firefox, and cleared my cache. Still no luck :( The system keeps saying my security answer is incorrect even though I KNOW it's right. I'll try that tech support number you mentioned.

I bet it's because they did some system update. My sister's account got locked last week too after she tried to log in. She said something about them doing maintenance on weekends now.

This is a common issue with the UI Online system - there are several potential causes: 1. EDD sometimes resets accounts when they detect unusual login patterns 2. If you used a different device or IP address than usual, it can trigger security protocols 3. They occasionally do system updates that affect login credentials 4. Sometimes accounts get flagged if there's been a pending eligibility issue Unfortunately, clearing your browser cache or trying different browsers rarely fixes security question lockouts. You'll need to contact EDD directly. The technical support number (1-855-327-7057) is your best option, but it's extremely difficult to get through. If you're concerned about missing your certification deadline, you can also try certifying by phone using TeleCert at 1-866-333-4606. This might allow you to at least get your certification in while you resolve the account access issue. Make sure to document all your attempts to login and contact them in case there's any issue with your benefits.

•Thank you for such a detailed response! I think #2 might be the issue - I was at my parents' house yesterday using their WiFi when I tried to log in. I didn't realize that could trigger account security. I'll try the TeleCert option right away to make sure I get my certification in. But I still need to fix the account issue. I've been calling the tech support number for the past hour and just getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message. So frustrating!

I had THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM last month and it was a NIGHTMARE!!! Called the regular EDD number like 50 times and couldn't get through. When I finally did, they said they couldn't help with account lockouts and transferred me to tech support who then HUNG UP ON ME!!! The whole system is designed to make us give up on getting our benefits. It's CRIMINAL how they treat people who are just trying to get what they're entitled to!!! I ended up having to go to the actual EDD office in person to get it fixed because I could NOT get through on the phone. Wasted an entire day sitting there waiting. Such bs.

•Oh no, that sounds awful! There's no EDD office near me - the closest one is about 40 miles away. I really hope I don't have to resort to that. Did you try calling first thing when they open? I've heard that's sometimes easier.

•Yeah I tried early morning, late afternoon, midday - NOTHING worked. Always the same "we're experiencing high call volume" garbage. They just don't have enough staff to handle all the calls. It's a broken system.

I went through this exact situation in March. After trying for days to get through to EDD with no luck, I discovered a service called Claimyr that got me connected to an EDD representative in about 20 minutes. It basically automates the calling process and notifies you when they get an agent on the line. I was skeptical at first, but it actually worked! The EDD tech support agent unlocked my account and even helped me reset my security questions. You can check out their demo video here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km or go to claimyr.com Just sharing what worked for me when I was in the same frustrating situation. The peace of mind was worth it since I was about to miss my certification deadline too.

•Thank you for this tip! I've been calling for hours now with no luck. I'll check out that service - at this point I'm willing to try anything to get this resolved before my certification deadline.

•Yeah, there is a fee, but for me it was worth it since I'd already wasted hours trying to get through and was about to miss my certification deadline. I was desperate after two days of constant calling.

Same thing happened to my roommate! She swears she entered everything right but kept getting locked out. Turns out she was typing her maiden name for the security question but had set it up with her married name originally. Could be something small like that?

•That's a good point! My security question is about my first pet's name, and I only ever had one pet growing up, so I'm pretty confident about the answer. But maybe I set it up with a nickname or something? I'll try some variations.

Just wanted to follow up - sometimes the UI Online system also has scheduled maintenance periods where accounts can behave strangely afterward. Check if your email has any notifications from EDD about system updates. Regarding certification - if you can't get your account unlocked in time, remember you can also certify by mail as a last resort. The paper form takes longer to process but it's better than missing your certification window entirely. Did you ever set up a backup email or phone number for account recovery? If you did, there should be an option to verify your identity that way instead of using the security question.

•Update: I finally got through to EDD after using that Claimyr service someone mentioned! The rep said there was a system-wide security update last weekend that reset some accounts. They verified my identity, unlocked my account, and let me set up a new password and security questions. I was able to complete my certification with a day to spare! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. Such a relief to have this resolved!

Glad to hear you got it resolved! For anyone else reading this thread with similar issues, here's a quick summary of options: 1. Try the technical support line (1-855-327-7057) 2. Make sure you're entering security answers exactly as you set them up (spacing, capitalization, etc.) 3. Use alternative certification methods (TeleCert, paper form) if you're nearing your deadline 4. Consider a call automation service if you're unable to get through after multiple attempts 5. As a last resort, visit an EDD office in person Also worth noting that EDD sometimes performs system updates that can affect account access. If this happens to you, don't panic - your claim information is still in their system even if you can't access your online account temporarily.
