EDD Direct Deposit Rejected: How to Get Cancelled Payments Reissued?

So I'm in a bit of a pickle with the unemployment office. I signed up for direct deposit but the payments got rejected by my bank because of some wrong info. Now they're showing up as 'cancelled' in my account. Has anyone dealt with this before? I'm trying to figure out how to get these payments reissued. It's not a huge amount, but every penny counts right now. Any advice on what to say when I finally get through to someone?

Have you tried updating your bank info online? Sometimes that can trigger a reissue automatically. Worth a shot before you spend hours on hold!

I didn't know that was an option! I'll give it a try tonight. Thanks for the tip!

This worked for me! But it took like 2 weeks for the system to process the change. Still faster than calling tho lol

0 coins

It's a handy trick, but keep checking your account to make sure the update has gone through!

β€’

Yeah, let's not. The last thing any of us need is trouble with the IRS on top of EDD issues!

0 coins

Not the best approach, but I get the sentiment behind it. Frustration with the system is real.

Has anyone else noticed that the hold music for EDD is like, the most depressing thing ever? It's like they're trying to make us give up before we even talk to someone 🎡😭

Guys, I know it's frustrating, but remember: this too shall pass. Stay positive, keep trying, and don't let the system get you down. We're all in this together! πŸ’ͺ❀️

have u tried faxing them? I know it sounds old school but sometimes it gets their attention faster than calling or emailing

Faxing? What year is it? πŸ˜‚ But seriously, I'll try anything at this point. Do you have the fax number?

Guys I'm so fed up with EDD I'm thinking of starting a protest. Who's with me? We could all show up at their office with our on-hold music blasting. Maybe then they'll get how frustrating this is! πŸ”ŠπŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈπŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸšΆ

Hey everyone, just a reminder to be kind to the EDD reps when you do get through. They're dealing with an overloaded system too and probably get yelled at all day. A little kindness goes a long way!

0 coins

This! πŸ‘† I used to work in a call center (not EDD but similar). Trust me, being nice will get you way further than being a jerk.

Agreed! I always try to make them laugh if I can. We're all human, after all.

Sometimes those reps are your best allies. Treating them well can lead to unexpected help.

If you're finding it difficult to get through to the unemployment office, you might consider using Claimyr's services. They offer a tool to help you navigate the complex phone systems, making it easier to reach a representative. However, it's important to be aware of the cost and weigh it against other free alternatives you might have. Documentation, keeping track of all interactions, and considering directly visiting an EDD office if accessible are also great approaches. Local representatives can be a good resource as well β€” they can sometimes expedite your process. While Claimyr is a valid option, it's always good to consider all avenues to find what works best for your situation.

PSA: If you're having trouble with EDD, document EVERYTHING. Keep a log of all your calls, take screenshots of your account, save all emails. You never know when you might need to prove you've been trying to resolve an issue.

This is great advice! I wish I'd started doing this from the beginning. Guess I'll start now better late than never

100% this. I had to appeal a decision once and all my documentation saved my butt!

Documentation is key in any bureaucracy. It can save you a lot of time and stress.

Thanks for the detailed advice! I'll definitely try calling early. Any idea how long it usually takes for them to reissue the payments once you get through?

Hey guys, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

0 coins

Sounds too good to be true. How does it actually work?

0 coins

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The service should be free.

0 coins

Tasia Synder

β€’

I get the skepticism, but it really did work for me. You pay, they call and wait on hold, then when a real person picks up, they connect you. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

β€’

Ugh, been there done that. The EDD system is a nightmare. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call them first thing in the morning, like right when they open. 2. Have all your info ready - claim number, dates of rejected payments, etc. 3. Be super nice to the rep, even if you're frustrated. They deal with angry people all day. 4. Ask specifically for a 'payment reissue' due to returned funds. 5. Make sure they have your correct banking info before you hang up. 6. Get a confirmation number or the name of who you spoke with. Good luck! It might take a few tries, but don't give up.

Hey OP, just a heads up - make sure you keep documentation of EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every email. You never know when you might need to prove you've been trying to resolve this. The system is designed to wear you down, but don't give up! You've got this! πŸ’ͺ

0 coins

Seriously, this is some of the best advice. Backing up your claims with documentation is often necessary.

Guys, I hate to be that person, but have you considered reaching out to your local representative? I was stuck in EDD hell for months until I contacted my assemblyman's office. They have special liaisons who can cut through the red tape. Just a thought!

0 coins

Edwards Hugo

β€’

That's actually a great idea! I never thought of that. Do you just call their office or is there a specific process?

0 coins

Monique Byrd

β€’

Just call their office and explain your situation. They usually have a staff member who deals with constituent services. They might ask you to fill out a form giving them permission to inquire about your case. It took about 2 weeks, but they got it sorted for me!

0 coins

I think a lot of people overlook this option. Representatives are there to help their constituents.

0 coins

Edwards Hugo

β€’

Update: I tried calling this morning and got through after only 2 hours on hold! The rep was actually super helpful. They're reissuing the payments and said it should take about 10 business days. Fingers crossed! Thanks for all the advice, everyone!

Has anyone else noticed that the EDD website is always 'down for maintenance' when you actually need to use it? πŸ™„ It's like they're trolling us at this point.

0 coins

β€’

omg yes! I swear they do it on purpose 😀

0 coins

Pro tip: try accessing the site using incognito mode or a different browser. Sometimes that works for me when it says it's down.

It's really inconvenient when you have to do something urgent and the site isn't cooperating.

This happened to me last year. It was a nightmare. I ended up having to go to my local EDD office in person to get it sorted out. Took all day but at least it got fixed. Might be worth a shot if you're not having any luck on the phone.

It's frustrating when you have to resort to in-person visits, but if it works, then it's worth it in the end.

I went through the exact same thing a few months ago! My bank rejected the deposit because I had moved and forgot to update my address with them. What worked for me was calling EDD right at 8 AM when they open - I got through in about 45 minutes. Make sure you have your claim number handy and be ready to explain that the payments show as "cancelled" due to bank rejection. The rep was able to reissue them as a debit card payment instead, which arrived about a week later. Don't give up - you're entitled to that money!

0 coins

Sean Murphy

β€’

Thanks for sharing your experience! The debit card option sounds like a good backup plan. I'm definitely going to try calling right at 8 AM tomorrow - hopefully I'll have the same luck you did. It's reassuring to hear from someone who actually got it resolved!

Amina Sy

β€’

I had the same issue with rejected direct deposits! What saved me was immediately logging into my EDD account and switching to the debit card option while I was waiting to get through on the phone. That way if the reissue takes forever, at least future payments won't get rejected. Also, pro tip - if your bank rejected it once, they might do it again even after you fix the info, so the debit card might be your safest bet. The whole system is frustrating but hang in there! πŸ’ͺ

0 coins

Noah huntAce420

β€’

That's really smart advice about switching to the debit card option right away! I didn't even think about the possibility of future rejections. Better to be safe than sorry. Thanks for the tip about doing it while waiting on hold - might as well be productive during those endless wait times! πŸ˜…

I'm dealing with a similar situation right now! My direct deposit got rejected because my bank account was frozen (long story), and now I'm seeing those dreaded "cancelled" payments in my account too. It's been about 3 weeks since I first noticed it. From reading everyone's responses, it sounds like calling early morning is key, but I'm also going to try updating my payment method to the debit card option online first. Has anyone had success getting multiple cancelled payments reissued at once, or do they make you request each one separately? Just trying to prepare for when I finally get through to someone!
