EDD 1099-G form for 2020 never arrived after 3 requests - need it for taxes ASAP!
I'm seriously losing my mind trying to get my 1099-G form from EDD for unemployment I received in 2020! My tax guy is breathing down my neck and I CANNOT file without this form. We've called EDD THREE separate times over the past 2 months, and each time the rep swears they're sending it out, but nothing ever shows up in my mailbox. The last person I talked to said it would take 5-7 business days. It's been 3 weeks! Do they even care that tax deadline is approaching? Has anyone else had this nightmare situation? Is there another way to get this form besides calling and being promised it'll be mailed? I'm desperate at this point!

You don't need to keep calling. You can actually access your 1099-G online through UI Online. Log into your account, go to the "History" tab, then look for "1099G Forms" on the left side menu. You should be able to view and print all your 1099-Gs from there, including 2020. It's much faster than waiting for mail delivery.

•OMG thank you!!! I didn't even know they had them online. I haven't logged into UI Online since like 2021 so I totally forgot about that option. Going to try right now!

•I double-checked and my address is correct... but I'm going to try the UI Online method the other person suggested. So annoying they keep telling me they're mailing it when clearly something isn't working!

The technical term is actually a 1099-G form, not a W9 (which is something different). That might be part of the confusion when you're calling. Make sure you're specifically asking for the "1099-G for unemployment benefits from 2020." And yes, as mentioned above, you can access all your 1099-G forms directly through your UI Online account under the History tab. They keep them available for at least 5 years. If you can't access your UI Online account anymore, you might need to contact EDD for account recovery, but that's still faster than waiting for mail.

•Thank you for the clarification! I kept saying W9 to my husband too, no wonder he looked confused 😂 I just successfully logged into UI Online and found the 1099-G forms section. Got my 2020 form printed out now. Wish the EDD reps had just told me to do this instead of promising to mail it three times!

i had this happen and i gave up waiting for mail. tax preparer said i could just report the exact income amount from my bank statements showing edd deposits. worked fine for me.

•That's not really the best approach. The 1099-G doesn't just show the total payments you received - it also shows tax withholding if you had any. Without the official form, you might end up overpaying on your taxes. Always best to get the actual form rather than trying to reconstruct it from bank statements.

If you keep having trouble accessing your UI Online account or the 1099-G forms section isn't working, I recommend using Claimyr to get through to an EDD representative quickly. I was in a similar situation last month - couldn't access my account and kept getting the runaround about my forms being mailed. I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes instead of spending hours redialing. The rep was able to unlock my account while I was on the phone and I could access my 1099-G right away. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

•I was just about to suggest Claimyr too. Saved me hours of frustration when I needed to speak with someone at EDD about my claim issues. It's definitely worth it when you're under time pressure like tax deadlines.

EDD is THE WORST at sending mail!!! I never got ANYTHING from them on time during my whole claim. Everything was always late or never came at all. I ended up just doing everything online because I couldn't trust their mail system. Did you try logging into UI Online??? That's where I got all my tax forms.

Just a heads-up for anyone dealing with this issue in the future: EDD makes 1099-G forms for unemployment benefits available by January 31st each year. You can access them immediately in your UI Online account rather than waiting for mail. If you need forms from previous years (like 2020-2023), they remain accessible in your account history. If you've changed addresses or no longer have UI Online access, you can request a duplicate 1099-G by calling 1-866-401-2849, but online access is much faster if you can get into your account. This applies to regular UI, disability, and PFL benefits.

•This is super helpful info! I wish I'd known all this earlier. I'm going to keep my UI Online login info somewhere safe so I don't run into this problem again. Thanks everyone for your help - I've got my 1099-G now and can finally get my taxes filed!
