Just had the WORST luck with EDD today! I finally got through to a rep after only trying once this morning around 11am. She started filing my claim and was asking me some questions, but right as I picked up the phone to answer her, the call dropped! No callback, nothing. I've been calling non-stop for the past 3 hours and can't get through - just constant busy signals or that automatic "we're experiencing high call volume" message before it hangs up on me. I'm going crazy here! Does anyone know the best time to call EDD to actually get through? Is the morning always better? I had luck at 11am on my first try earlier today, but now it seems completely impossible. Any tricks or specific times that have worked for you? I really need to finish filing this claim and I'm worried the partial info they have will mess something up.
I'm at my wits' end with EDD right now. Over the past month, I've had THREE separate eligibility interviews. Each time, the interviewer said I was cleared and my benefits would start processing. After the third interview last week, I got a notification to verify my identity (which makes no sense this late in the process). I immediately uploaded all my documents through ID.me AND mailed physical copies as a backup. Now I log in today and see ANOTHER pending eligibility interview scheduled for next Friday! What the heck is going on? Why do they keep making me do interviews when I've been cleared multiple times? Has anyone dealt with this endless loop of interviews and verification? My rent is due next week and I haven't received a single payment in almost 2 months.
Update us after your next interview - I'm curious if asking about all remaining issues works for you. Many claimants have found success with this approach, as it forces EDD to review the entire claim rather than just the isolated issue assigned to that particular interviewer.
I went through something similar last year - had 4 interviews over 6 weeks before everything got sorted out. The frustrating part is that each interviewer acts like they're seeing your case for the first time, even though you've already been through this process multiple times. One thing that helped me was creating a simple timeline document before each interview listing: - Date of each previous interview - Name of interviewer (if you got it) - What issue they said they were addressing - What they told you the outcome was When I started my fourth interview by reading this timeline to the interviewer, she actually paused and said "Oh, I can see there's been some confusion here" and was able to consolidate everything. Turned out I had overlapping issues that different departments were trying to handle separately. Also, don't stress too much about the identity verification popping up late in the process - that's actually pretty normal. Sometimes it gets triggered automatically when there are multiple interviews on a claim, even if identity isn't the actual issue. Hang in there - I know it's incredibly frustrating when you need the money now, but most of these multi-interview situations do get resolved eventually.
To all those having trouble reaching a human at California Unemployment. I just ran across this video that gave me a shortcut to reach a human. Hope it helps! https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI
I've been dealing with a similar issue where my weren't transferring to my automatically. After reading through this thread, I wanted to share that I finally got through to a Tier 2 rep last week. The key was being very specific about the technical nature of the problem when speaking with the Tier 1 rep - I mentioned that it was a "backend transfer issue" and that previous Tier 1 reps had already identified it but couldn't resolve it. The Tier 1 rep transferred me immediately without any pushback. The Tier 2 rep fixed everything within 10 minutes and I was paid within 2 days. Don't give up - persistence really does pay off with EDD!
I'm in a really stressful situation and could use some advice. I finally found a new job after 3 months of unemployment (yay!) but now I'm scheduled to work during my upcoming EDD eligibility interview. I've tried using the online rescheduling system but it keeps giving me an error message saying 'unable to process your request at this time.' I've been calling EDD every single day for over a week - sometimes 15+ times a day - and can't get through to a real person. My interview is in 3 days and I HAVE to work that shift or risk losing my new job. What happens if I miss the interview call? Is there any way to call them back? Will they automatically disqualify my claim for the weeks I was legitimately unemployed? Should I just prepare for an appeal? Any advice would be really appreciated!
UPDATE: I tried that Claimyr service and actually got through to EDD this morning! The rep was able to reschedule my interview for next Tuesday evening after my work shift. She said normally they don't offer rescheduling this close to the interview date, but since I'd been trying to contact them repeatedly and had just started a new job, she made an exception. Just wanted to update everyone and say thanks for all the advice!
That's awesome that you got it resolved! For anyone else reading this thread who might face a similar situation in the future, I'd recommend always keeping a detailed log of your attempts to contact EDD - dates, times, methods used (phone, online, UI Online messages), and any error messages you receive. This documentation can be crucial if you need to appeal a decision later. Also, if you do end up missing an interview despite your best efforts, don't panic - the appeal process exists for exactly these types of situations where there are legitimate reasons for missing the call.
Hey everyone! I finally got my claim certified and approved this week (thank goodness after waiting 6 weeks). I checked my UI Online account and it shows 'paid' status as of Monday, which is a huge relief. Here's my confusion though - I know EDD switched from Bank of America to Money Network for their debit cards, but my husband and I still have our old BofA card from when we claimed benefits in 2023. Will they just deposit to our old card during this transition period, or are we supposed to be getting a new Money Network card? I haven't received anything in the mail about a new card yet. Does anyone know if EDD still pays to old cards or should I be contacting someone about this? I'm trying to budget for upcoming bills and need to know where to expect the money and when. Thanks for any help!
To answer your follow-up question: Yes, you can call Money Network customer service at 1-888-393-5866 to request expedited delivery of your card. They may charge a fee for this service (usually around $15) which would be deducted from your balance. They typically offer 3-day expedited shipping. You'll need to verify your identity with them, which usually requires providing your SSN, EDD Customer Account Number, and answering security questions.
Just wanted to share my recent experience since I went through this exact same situation last month! I had the old BofA card from 2022 and was so confused when my payment showed "paid" but nothing hit my old card. Turns out they really did completely switch to Money Network. I called the Money Network number that someone posted (1-888-393-5866) and they were actually pretty helpful. They confirmed my card had been mailed 3 days prior and gave me a tracking number. The expedited shipping for $15 was totally worth it - got my card in 2 days instead of waiting another week. One tip: once you get the card, definitely set up the mobile app right away. You can transfer money directly to your bank account for free, which is way better than using the card for everything. The transfer takes about 1-2 business days. Also, make sure to keep your UI Online address updated because that's where they mail the card. I almost had mine sent to my old address by mistake!

One additional tip that might help: When you do manage to get through to an EDD representative, immediately ask for their direct extension or ID number. This won't guarantee that you can reach them directly if you call back, but if you get disconnected again, you can at least reference who you were speaking with when you call again. Also, I'd recommend preparing a brief "claim summary" document for yourself with all the key information you need to provide. This way, if you do get through, you can efficiently complete the claim without scrambling for information, which reduces the time spent on the phone and the chance of another disconnection. Include details such as: - Your employment history for the past 18 months (employer names, addresses, phone numbers) - Start and end dates for each job - Reason for separation from each employer - Your gross earnings for the last week worked - Any vacation or severance pay received Having this information readily available has helped many of my clients complete their claims more efficiently during their brief windows of connection with EDD representatives.

AuthorThank you! This is so helpful. I'm going to put together that claim summary right now so I'm prepared for when I call tomorrow morning. Really appreciate the detailed advice!

I feel your pain! I went through something similar last year. One thing that really helped me was using the EDD website's "Contact EDD" feature to send a message about my dropped call situation. While they don't respond quickly (took about 5 days), when I did get through on the phone later, the rep could see my message in the system and it actually helped speed things up since she knew exactly what had happened. Also, if you're calling from a cell phone, make sure you're in an area with strong signal. I learned the hard way that even small signal drops can cause the call to disconnect on EDD's end, even if your phone shows full bars. I started calling from my landline after that and never had another dropped call issue. Good luck with the 8am call tomorrow! The advice about having everything ready is spot on - the faster you can get through the questions, the less chance of technical issues messing things up.
