SDI Family Paid Leave benefits withheld due to EDD overpayment offset - Need help!
I've been waiting since October for my SDI Family Paid Leave benefits, but I haven't received anything due to an offset. The EDD is withholding my benefits because of an overpayment claim. I'm not sure what to do next. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to resolve this and get my benefits?

I found a way to solve EDD benefit offset issues, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nDMZlgxdgA

Ugh, that sucks! I've been there before. Here's what you need to do: 1. Check all your EDD notices carefully. They should explain the overpayment details. 2. Gather any documents that might help your case. Pay stubs, medical records, anything relevant. 3. Call EDD ASAP. Be prepared to wait on hold forever tho 🙄 4. Ask about repayment options and how to resolve the offset. 5. If you disagree with the overpayment, file an appeal! Good luck! The system is a mess, but don't give up!

•This is solid advice! 👍 I'd add: keep a record of all your calls and who you talk to. It can help if you need to escalate later.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? How long did you have to wait?

•It really does! I was skeptical too, but I got through in about 45 minutes. Way better than spending all day redialing.

•$20 seems steep just to make a phone call. Is it worth it?

•For me, it was totally worth it. I was losing my mind trying to get through on my own. Time is money, ya know? 🤷♂️

have you tried contacting your local assembly member? they can sometimes help speed things up with EDD. worth a shot!

This happened to me last year. Turns out they made a mistake on their end! Keep pushing and don't let them brush you off. It took me 3 months to get it sorted, but I finally got my benefits. Hang in there!

•3 months?! 😱 I hope it doesn't take that long for me. Did you do anything specific to get it resolved?

•Honestly, I just kept calling and escalating. Eventually got to a supervisor who actually looked into it properly. Don't give up!

•Preach! 🙌 The EDD needs a complete overhaul. It's not fit for purpose anymore.

Quick question - did you receive any notice about the overpayment before they started withholding your benefits? If not, that might be grounds for appeal.

•Now that you mention it, I don't think I did. I'll definitely bring that up when I talk to them. Thanks for the tip!

Pro tip: if you can't get through on the phone, try reaching out on Twitter. Sometimes their social media team can help or at least escalate your case. Worth a shot! 🐦

I'm dealing with a similar situation right now! Been waiting 2 months for my PFL benefits and just found out about an offset from an old UI overpayment I didn't even know about. The frustrating part is they don't automatically notify you - I had to call and ask why my benefits weren't coming through. From what I've learned so far: - Request a detailed breakdown of the overpayment in writing - Ask about setting up a payment plan so they don't take 100% of your benefits - Check if the overpayment is even valid (sometimes there are errors) - Document everything! Has anyone had luck negotiating the offset amount so you can still get some benefits while paying back the overpayment? I really need these PFL payments and can't afford to have them completely withheld. 😰

•Yes! I was able to negotiate a partial offset when this happened to me. They agreed to take only 50% of my benefits to pay back the overpayment, so I still got some money coming in. The key is to explain your financial hardship and ask specifically about "partial offset" options. Don't let them tell you it's all or nothing - that's not true! Also, definitely get that breakdown in writing like you mentioned. Mine turned out to have calculation errors that reduced what I actually owed. Keep pushing! @Elijah O'Reilly
