PFL checks not received - started Jan 13, what to do?

Hey everyone, I'm having an issue with my Paid Family Leave (PFL) checks. My leave started on January 13th, but I still haven't received all my checks. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on what I should do next? I'm getting worried about my finances.

Ugh, I feel you. The EDD is such a mess rn. Have you tried calling them? It's a pain, but sometimes that's the only way to get answers.

I've been trying to call, but it's impossible to get through. Always busy or they hang up on me 😤

Pro tip: call right when they open. Set an alarm and start dialing at 7:59 AM. It's still a pain, but your chances are way better.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a shot tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed 🤞

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call.

I was skeptical too, but it actually worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth it IMO.

How long did you have to wait? Did they actually solve your problem?

Wait was about 2 hours, but I didn't have to sit by the phone. They fixed my issue in 10 minutes once I got through. Huge relief.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Check your UI Online account for any messages or updates 2. Make sure all your paperwork is submitted correctly 3. If you can't get through on the phone, try sending a secure message through your UI Online account 4. Double-check that your mailing address is correct in the system 5. If it's been more than 14 days since your claim was approved, definitely follow up If none of that works, you might need to contact your local assemblymember or state senator. They can sometimes help push things through. Hang in there! The system is frustrating, but persistence usually pays off.

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed response! I'll go through these steps one by one. Really appreciate the help! 💯

This is solid advice. I'd add: keep a log of all your calls, messages, and attempts to contact EDD. It can help if you need to escalate your case.

The EDD is a joke. I've been waiting 3 months for my disability claim to be processed. This state is run by 🤡🤡🤡

Preach! 👏 The whole system needs an overhaul. It's like they're stuck in the 90s or something.

Hey now, let's not insult clowns like that. At least clowns TRY to make people happy 😂

Did you receive any checks at all? Or are you still waiting on the first one?

I got the first two, but nothing since then. It's been radio silence for weeks now.

Hmm, that's odd. Might be a processing delay. Definitely try to get ahold of someone to check on the status. Good luck!

idk if this helps, but I had a similar issue last year. Turns out there was a problem with my employer's wage report. Had to bug my HR dept to fix it. Maybe check with your work?

@Vanessa Chang - I went through something similar last year with my PFL claim. A few things that helped me: 1) Check if your claim status changed in UI Online - sometimes there are hidden issues that aren't obvious. 2) If you got the first two checks, your claim is likely approved, so this might just be a processing backlog. 3) Try faxing a follow-up inquiry to their PFL unit - sometimes fax gets through faster than calls. The number should be in your UI Online messages. Don't give up! It's frustrating but they usually sort it out eventually. Keep us posted on how it goes! 🙏

This is really helpful advice! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - got my first check but nothing since. The fax tip is something I hadn't thought of. Do you remember roughly how long it took after you faxed them before things got moving again? Thanks for sharing your experience! 🙏
