Filed PFL instead of SDI after C-section - How to cancel and refile with EDD?
I messed up and filed for paid family leave instead of disability after my C-section. My doctor's office told me I did it wrong. Has anyone had to cancel a claim and refile? What's the process like? I'm worried about how long this might take to fix.

Ugh, that sucks! I had a similar issue last year. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the EDD office ASAP 2. Explain the situation and ask to cancel your current claim 3. Request info on filing for disability 4. Get confirmation of cancellation in writing 5. File new disability claim right away It took me about 2 weeks to sort everything out, but it was worth it. Good luck!

•This is great advice! I wish I had known this when I had my baby. The system is so confusing 😫

•2 weeks?! That's actually not bad. I've been waiting 6 weeks just to get someone on the phone 🙄

•Yeah, I got lucky I guess. But I was calling non-stop every day. It was exhausting 😅

congrats on the new baby! sorry your dealing with this mess tho. the edd website is a nightmare to navigate. i swear they make it confusing on purpose 🤔

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•I was skeptical too, but it actually worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

pro tip: document EVERYTHING. keep a log of who you talk to, when, and what they say. the edd is notorious for giving conflicting info 🤡

have you tried reaching out to your local assemblymember? sometimes they can help expedite things with edd. worth a shot!

Anyone else think its ridiculous that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get basic support after having a baby? The whole system needs an overhaul tbh

Oh no, I feel your pain! I made the exact same mistake after my delivery. The good news is it's totally fixable, just annoying to deal with. Here's what worked for me: Call the PFL line first thing in the morning (8am sharp) - they're usually less busy then. Tell them you need to withdraw your claim due to filing error. They'll give you a confirmation number - write it down! Then immediately call the SDI line and explain the situation. The whole process took me about 3 weeks total, but I didn't lose any benefits. Just make sure you have all your medical documentation ready when you refile. Your doctor should have given you the right forms for disability, not family leave. Hang in there mama, you'll get through this! ❤️
