EDD maternity disability payment timeline after receiving DE 429D notice - when to expect money?

I'm freaking out about my finances and really need some guidance! I started my maternity disability leave on January 5th (2025) and FINALLY got an email with my Notice of Computation (DE 429D) on February 22nd. That's already 7 weeks of waiting! My savings are pretty much drained at this point, and I need to know when I should actually expect to see some money? Is the computation notice a good sign that payment is coming soon? Or is there some other mysterious step I'm still waiting on? My doctor submitted everything correctly, and I've checked my UI Online account daily but there's no payment info. I'm getting really anxious since bills are piling up. Anyone know the typical timeline after receiving the DE 429D?

The DE 429D is definitely a good sign! It means they've calculated your benefit amount. In my experience, payment usually follows within 5-10 business days after receiving that notice. Have you checked your EDD debit card if you have one from previous claims? Sometimes they load it there without sending a separate notification. Also, make sure your UI Online account is fully set up with all your correct contact info and payment preferences.

Thank you! That's reassuring to hear. I don't have an EDD card from before - this is my first time filing. I did select direct deposit to my checking account though. Does that usually take longer than the card method? I'll double check all my info in UI Online right now.

congrats on the baby! i got my notice thingy and then money showed up like a week later. but my sister had to wait almost 3 weeks after her notice for some reason. EDD is super random sometimes lol good luck!

3 weeks?! Ugh, I hope mine doesn't take that long. Thanks for sharing your experience though!

The DE 429D notice is just the calculation of your benefit amount based on your wages during the base period. It typically means your claim has been processed, but not necessarily approved yet. There are several possible scenarios: 1) Your claim is approved and payment is processing (5-10 business days) 2) Your medical certification is being reviewed (additional 1-2 weeks) 3) There's an issue with your claim that requires additional information I recommend checking the claim status details in your UI Online account. Look specifically for any messages about "pending medical certification" or "pending eligibility interview." These would indicate additional steps needed before payment. If nothing shows as pending, you should call EDD to check on the status. They can tell you exactly where your claim stands and if anything is holding up payment.

Thank you for the detailed response! I checked UI Online and don't see any pending messages, just the notice of computation. I tried calling yesterday but couldn't get through after being on hold for over an hour. So frustrating!

I had almost the EXACT same timeline as you in January (different year). Started disability on 1/8, got my DE 429D on 2/20, and then payment hit my account on 3/1. So about 8-9 days after the notice. The system is RIDICULOUSLY slow. But once you get that computation notice, you're in the home stretch! If you don't see payment by the end of next week, definitely call them. One tip - when you do eventually get paid, they'll backdate it to your eligibility date (minus the 7-day waiting period). So you should get a lump sum for all those weeks at once.

Oh that's so helpful to hear from someone with almost the same timeline! Fingers crossed I see something by the end of next week then. And yes, I'm counting on that lump sum to catch up on bills!

my wife just went through this whole ordeal! the DE 429D came and then she got paid like 6 days later. but then she had issues with the transition to baby bonding later. the whole system is kind of a mess tbh. make sure you keep all your paperwork and screenshot everything in your online account for reference. we had to appeal something later and were glad we had records of everything.

The transition from disability to PFL baby bonding is ALWAYS a mess! I work in HR and even I struggled with my own claim last year. They treat them as completely separate claims and you have to time everything perfectly. @OP make sure you file your PFL claim form (DE 2501FP) about 1-2 weeks before your disability ends to avoid a gap in payments!

If you've been waiting since January 5th and JUST got your Notice of Computation, something is definitely wrong with their system. EDD is absolutely BROKEN right now! I waited 12 weeks for my disability claim last year and almost lost my apartment. They kept saying "we're processing an unprecedented volume of claims" - yeah right, they say that EVERY YEAR! The DE 429D is just them telling you what you'll get IF they approve you. It's NOT a guarantee of payment or approval! I'd call them ASAP and DEMAND to speak with a tier 2 specialist about why your claim is taking so long. Good luck actually reaching anyone though. The whole system is designed to make people give up!!!

That's really discouraging to hear :( I've been trying to call but can't get through at all. I just need to know if I should be applying for emergency assistance elsewhere while I wait.

I actually had issues reaching EDD about my maternity disability payment delays too. After trying for days I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an EDD agent. They basically call EDD for you and when they reach an agent, they connect you. Saved me hours of hold time and frustration. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 When I finally got through, the agent told me my payment was actually approved but stuck in their payment system. They fixed it while I was on the phone and I got paid 2 days later. Sometimes you just need to talk to an actual human to move things along.

Thank you for this recommendation! I'm going to check out this service right now. At this point, I'm willing to try anything to get some answers. Did they explain why your payment got stuck in their system?

The agent said something about a "payment verification flag" that needed manual review but was sitting in a queue. Once she cleared the flag, everything processed normally. Definitely worth calling to see if something similar is happening with yours!

my sister also had her baby in january and she said all the january claims are super backed up for some reason. something about their system update at the new year messed everything up. but once she got her notice the money came pretty quick!

Just so you know, once your pregnancy disability claim ends, you'll need to file a separate claim for Paid Family Leave (PFL) for baby bonding. That's an entirely different claim with its own processing time. I recommend filing the PFL claim 1-2 weeks before your disability claim ends to minimize the gap between payments. The PFL claim form is DE 2501FP (not the same as your disability form). The good news is that PFL claims typically process faster than disability claims, usually 2-3 weeks instead of 6-7 weeks. And you don't have to serve another waiting period for PFL after disability.

Thank you for the heads up about the PFL transition! My doctor certified me for 8 weeks of disability after birth, so I'm about halfway through that now. I'll definitely file the PFL form early to avoid another payment gap. Really appreciate this advice.

I'm going through something similar right now! Filed my disability claim in early February and just got my DE 429D notice last week. Based on what everyone is saying here, it sounds like we're both in the final stretch. I've been checking my bank account obsessively every day since getting the notice. One thing that's helped me manage the anxiety is setting up text alerts from my bank so I'll know immediately when any deposit hits. Also, if you haven't already, make sure you're signed up for EDD text notifications in your UI Online account - sometimes they send updates that way before you see anything in the portal. Hang in there! From all these responses, it really does sound like payment should come within the next week or two after getting that computation notice. The waiting is absolutely brutal but you're so close!

0 coins

Thanks for sharing your experience! It's oddly comforting to know someone else is going through the exact same thing right now. I just set up those bank text alerts - great idea! I didn't even think about EDD text notifications, so I'm going to enable those too. This whole process has been such a rollercoaster of emotions. One day I'm optimistic that payment is coming soon, the next day I'm panicking about bills. But you're right, based on everyone's responses here it really does seem like we're both in the home stretch. Let's hope we both see some money in our accounts soon! 🤞

I just went through this exact situation a few months ago and can totally relate to the financial stress! Getting the DE 429D notice is definitely a positive step - it means they've calculated your benefits and you're much closer to receiving payment. In my case, I got paid exactly 7 business days after receiving that notice via direct deposit. One thing that helped me was calling EDD early in the morning (like 8:05 AM) right when they open - you have a much better chance of getting through. Also, if you're really struggling with bills, you might want to look into emergency assistance programs in your area while you wait. Many counties have emergency rental assistance or utility help for people waiting on benefits. The waiting is absolutely terrible, but based on everyone's experiences here, you should see that payment very soon. Keep checking your account and hang in there - you're so close!

Thank you so much for the encouragement and practical tips! I'm definitely going to try calling at 8:05 AM sharp tomorrow - that's such good advice about timing. And you're absolutely right about looking into emergency assistance programs. I've been so focused on when the EDD payment will come that I didn't think about other resources that might help bridge the gap. I'll look into what's available in my county today. It's really reassuring to hear from someone who went through this recently and got paid 7 days after the notice. That gives me hope that I might see something by early next week! The financial stress has been overwhelming, but all these responses are making me feel much more optimistic.

I'm so sorry you're going through this financial stress - I completely understand the anxiety! I went through a very similar situation last year. Got my DE 429D notice on a Friday and was checking my bank account every few hours over the weekend. The payment actually showed up the following Tuesday (4 business days later) as a lump sum covering all the weeks from my start date. One thing that really helped me was calling the EDD customer service line using the "2-1-1" method - when you call, press 2 for employers, then 1, then 1 again. This sometimes gets you to a shorter queue. Also, if you're on social media, try tweeting @CA_EDD with your situation - I've seen them respond to people faster that way sometimes. Based on all the responses here, it really sounds like you're in the final days of waiting. I know it's easier said than done, but try to hang in there - that computation notice is definitely a great sign that payment is imminent!

0 coins

Thank you for the "2-1-1" tip! I had no idea about that phone trick - I'm definitely going to try that first thing tomorrow morning. It's so frustrating that we have to learn these workarounds just to reach someone at EDD! The social media suggestion is interesting too, though I'm not really active on Twitter. But at this point I'm willing to try anything. Hearing that you got paid just 4 business days after your notice is really encouraging! That would put me at early next week if I follow the same timeline. I keep telling myself that the computation notice has to mean something good is about to happen. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience and tips - this community has been such a lifesaver for my sanity today!

I'm going through almost the exact same thing right now! Filed my maternity disability claim in mid-January and just got my DE 429D notice earlier this week. The financial anxiety is so real - I've been surviving on credit cards and help from family while waiting for this payment. What's been driving me crazy is how there's no real timeline information anywhere on their website. Like, why can't they just tell us "expect payment within X business days of receiving your computation notice"? Instead we're all here trying to piece together timelines from each other's experiences. I've been obsessively checking my UI Online account multiple times a day, and like you, there's still no payment information showing up. But reading through all these responses is giving me hope that we're both really close! It sounds like most people are seeing payment within 5-10 business days of getting that notice. Hang in there - you're definitely not alone in this stress and it sounds like relief is coming soon for both of us! 🤞

You're absolutely right about the lack of clear timeline information on their website! It's ridiculous that we have to rely on crowdsourced experiences just to get a basic idea of when to expect payment. I've also been living off credit cards and borrowed money from family, which adds so much shame on top of the financial stress. Reading everyone's responses here has been the most helpful information I've gotten in weeks - way more useful than anything on EDD's actual website! It really does seem like we're both in that final stretch. Fingers crossed we both see some money hit our accounts by early next week! This whole experience has made me realize how broken the system is, but at least we're not going through it alone. Thanks for sharing - it helps to know someone else is in the exact same boat right now!

I went through this exact same situation last year and can totally relate to the financial panic! The DE 429D notice is actually a really good sign - it means they've processed your claim and calculated your benefit amount. In my experience, I received my first payment 6 business days after getting that notice. One thing that helped me was setting up account alerts with my bank so I'd get notified immediately when the deposit hit. Also, when you do get paid, it should be a lump sum covering all eligible weeks from your start date (minus the 7-day waiting period), so that should help you catch up on bills. The waiting is absolutely brutal, but based on the timeline you described and getting that computation notice, you should definitely see payment within the next week or two. I know it's hard not to stress, but you're really in the home stretch now. Hang in there!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It's such a relief to hear from someone who went through this exact same situation. 6 business days after the notice sounds very reasonable - that would put me right around early next week if I follow your timeline. I definitely need to set up those bank alerts like you suggested. I've been manually checking my account multiple times a day which is probably making my anxiety worse! The lump sum payment will be such a huge relief when it finally comes. I'm really counting on it to catch up on all the bills that have been piling up. It's incredible how much stress this whole process puts on families when we're already dealing with a new baby and recovery. But hearing all these positive experiences gives me so much hope that I'm truly almost at the finish line. Thanks for taking the time to reassure me!

I completely understand your anxiety - the financial stress while waiting for EDD payments is absolutely overwhelming! Based on everyone's experiences here, the DE 429D notice is definitely a positive sign that you're very close to receiving payment. Most people seem to get paid within 5-10 business days after receiving that computation notice. Since you mentioned your savings are drained, I'd recommend looking into local emergency assistance programs while you wait. Many counties offer emergency rental assistance, utility help, and food assistance for people waiting on benefits. You can usually find these by searching "[your county] emergency assistance" or calling 211. Also, try calling EDD at exactly 8:05 AM when they open - you'll have the best chance of getting through. The "2-1-1" method mentioned above (press 2 for employers, then 1, then 1) can sometimes get you to a shorter queue. Keep documenting everything and take screenshots of your UI Online account. And don't forget to file your PFL claim (DE 2501FP) about 1-2 weeks before your disability ends to avoid a gap when transitioning to baby bonding benefits. You've made it through the hardest part - that lump sum payment should hit your account very soon! Hang in there! 💪

This is such comprehensive advice - thank you! I'm definitely going to look into emergency assistance programs in my county today. I hadn't thought about calling 211, but that's a great resource to know about. The 8:05 AM calling strategy and the "2-1-1" method are going on my to-do list for tomorrow morning. I've been screenshotting everything in my UI Online account, so I'm glad to hear that's the right approach. And yes, I need to start thinking about that PFL transition - my disability period ends in about 4 weeks so I should probably file that form in the next couple of weeks. It's amazing how helpful this community has been compared to trying to navigate EDD's website alone. Knowing that most people get paid within 5-10 days of the computation notice gives me real hope that I'll see that lump sum very soon. Thank you for all the practical tips and encouragement!

I'm so sorry you're going through this stress - the waiting is absolutely brutal! I went through almost the exact same timeline last year. Filed my disability claim in early January, got my DE 429D notice in late February, and then received my first payment 8 days later via direct deposit. The computation notice is definitely a good sign that you're in the final stretch! A few things that helped me: I called EDD at exactly 8:00 AM when they opened (much better chance of getting through), and I set up text alerts from my bank so I'd know immediately when the deposit hit. While you're waiting, definitely look into local emergency assistance programs - many counties have emergency rental/utility assistance for people waiting on benefits. You can call 211 for resources in your area. Also, start thinking about your PFL claim transition now! You'll need to file form DE 2501FP about 1-2 weeks before your disability ends to avoid a payment gap when switching to baby bonding benefits. Based on everyone's experiences here, you should see that lump sum payment very soon - probably within the next week! The backpay will cover all those weeks you've been waiting (minus the 7-day waiting period). Hang in there, you're so close! 💪

Thank you so much for sharing your timeline - 8 days after the DE 429D notice gives me a really concrete expectation to work with! I'm definitely going to try calling at exactly 8:00 AM tomorrow morning. It's wild how we all have to learn these unofficial "hacks" just to navigate the system. I really appreciate the reminder about emergency assistance programs - I called 211 earlier today and found out about a few local programs that might help bridge the gap. The PFL transition advice is also super helpful since I'm still figuring out all these different forms and deadlines. Hearing from so many people with similar timelines has been incredibly reassuring. This community has been a lifesaver today - way more helpful than anything I could find on EDD's actual website! Fingers crossed I see that lump sum hit my account by early next week 🤞

I'm in a very similar situation and this thread has been so helpful! I filed my disability claim in late January and just received my DE 429D notice yesterday. Reading everyone's experiences here is giving me so much hope that payment is actually coming soon. The financial stress has been unreal - I've been stretching every dollar and borrowing from family just to cover basic expenses. It's frustrating that EDD doesn't provide clear timelines anywhere, so having this community share real experiences is invaluable. Based on what everyone is saying, it sounds like most people get paid within 5-10 business days after receiving the computation notice. I'm going to try the early morning calling strategy (8:05 AM) and the "2-1-1" phone method that several people mentioned. Also setting up those bank text alerts right now! @Oliver, hang in there - from all these responses it really does sound like you're in the final stretch. We're all rooting for you to see that payment hit your account very soon! This whole process is so stressful but knowing we're not alone in this experience helps so much.

Thanks so much for the support! It's really comforting to know there are others going through this exact same situation right now. You're right that this thread has been incredibly helpful - I've learned more practical information here in one day than I could find anywhere on EDD's official resources. The fact that you just got your DE 429D notice yesterday and I got mine last week means we're probably going to see payments around the same time! I'm definitely going to try that 8:05 AM calling strategy tomorrow, and I already set up the bank text alerts after reading everyone's suggestions. The financial stress is so overwhelming, especially when you're trying to recover from childbirth and care for a new baby. But hearing all these consistent timelines from people who've been through this gives me real hope that we're both about to see some relief. Let's keep each other posted on when our payments come through! 🤞

I went through this exact same situation just a few months ago and I totally understand your anxiety! Getting the DE 429D notice is actually a really positive sign - it means EDD has processed your claim and calculated your benefits. In my case, I received my first payment exactly 9 business days after getting that computation notice. The waiting is absolutely brutal, especially when bills are piling up. A few things that helped me get through those final days: I set up text alerts from my bank so I'd know immediately when the deposit hit, and I called EDD at exactly 8:00 AM when they opened (much better chance of getting through than later in the day). Based on your timeline, you should definitely see payment within the next week or two. When it does come, it'll be a lump sum covering all eligible weeks from January 5th (minus the 7-day waiting period), which should help you catch up on those bills. In the meantime, consider looking into local emergency assistance programs - many counties offer temporary help for people waiting on benefits. Hang in there - you're so close to the finish line! That computation notice really is the light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and timeline! 9 business days after the DE 429D notice is really helpful to know - that would put me right around early next week if I follow a similar timeline. I've already set up those bank text alerts after reading everyone's suggestions here, and I'm definitely going to try the 8:00 AM calling strategy tomorrow morning. The idea of getting that lump sum payment covering all those weeks is what's keeping me going right now - I really need it to catch up on rent and utilities that I've had to defer. I looked into some local emergency assistance programs today after several people mentioned it, and found a couple that might help bridge the gap. This whole thread has been such a lifesaver - getting real timelines and practical advice from people who've actually been through this exact situation. It gives me so much hope that I'm truly in the final stretch now! Thanks for the encouragement 🙏
