EDD PFL for Baby Bonding - Payment Timeline After Receiving Notice of Computation?
Filed my baby bonding PFL application last Monday and just got the Notice of Computation in today's mail! Super anxious about when I'll actually see payment hit my account since I've taken unpaid leave from work and bills are stacking up fast. Anyone know how much longer until the money arrives after getting this computation notice? The timeline on EDD's website is so vague, and I'm trying to figure out if I need to borrow money from family for next week's daycare payment for my older kid. This is my first time using PFL (used SDI for pregnancy last year) and everything moves SO. SLOWLY. 😫

Usually takes about 5-7 business days after receiving that Notice of Computation letter before payment is issued. If you set up direct deposit, you'll typically see funds 1-2 days after the payment is processed. If you're getting the EDD debit card, it could take an additional 5-7 days for the card to arrive if this is your first benefit period. The computation notice means your claim was approved, so you're in the final stages!

•Thank you!! That's actually a HUGE relief. I did set up direct deposit so hopefully it comes through quickly. I had my regular disability for pregnancy last year but this is my first time doing the baby bonding portion.

When I filed my baby bonding claim in January, it took exactly 6 days after getting that Notice of Computation letter before the money showed up in my account. But my friend who filed in March waited almost 2 weeks. The EDD system is completely unpredictable right now! If you're really worried, I used Claimyr to get through to an actual EDD representative when my payment was delayed. Their website (claimyr.com) has a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5. Saved me hours of frustration and hang-ups trying to reach someone. The agent was able to tell me exactly when my payment would hit my account.

•Does that Claimyr thing actually work? I tried calling EDD like 15 times last week and either got disconnected or was on hold for over an hour before giving up.

•Yes! It really worked for me. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying to call for 3 days straight. Got connected to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes.

If you got your Notice of Computation, that means your claim is APPROVED, so that's great news! But don't expect the money right away. The EDD is notorious for saying one thing and doing another. My timeline recently was: - Filed PFL claim: Feb 12, 2025 - Notice of Computation: Feb 27 (15 days later) - First payment: March 11 (12 days after NoC) So it was almost a MONTH from filing to payment. The system is completely BROKEN. They expect new parents to just magically pay bills while they sit on our claims. I'd recommend calling them ASAP to check on the payment status - sometimes they have issues they don't tell you about that delay payment.

•A MONTH?! Oh god, I hope mine doesn't take that long. We're already stretching our savings to the limit. Thanks for sharing your timeline, at least it gives me a realistic expectation.

The Notice of Computation isn't actually approval of your claim - it's just stating what your weekly benefit amount would be IF approved. However, in most cases, if you've received this notice, your claim is indeed likely to be approved. Typical processing time from Notice of Computation to first payment is 7-10 business days, assuming there are no issues with your claim or certifications. Make sure you've completed any certifications requested. For baby bonding PFL, you typically need to certify once at the beginning of your claim period, unlike disability which requires bi-weekly certifications. You can check your claim status in your UI Online account to see if there are any pending items requiring your attention. The transition from pregnancy disability to PFL for bonding is sometimes where delays happen, so if you used SDI recently, double-check that your claim type has been properly changed in the system.

•Wait, really? The letter made it sound like everything was approved! I just checked my UI Online account and it does say my claim status is "Paid" but with $0.00 showing. Does that mean it's processing?

•Yes, that "Paid" status with $0.00 typically means the payment is being processed. You should see an amount and transaction number appear in the next few days. That confirms your claim was approved!

Just wanted to share my recent experience - got my Notice of Computation on April 2nd and payment hit my account on April 9th. Seems like they're consistently taking about a week right now. Hang in there! And congrats on the new baby!!

wait so did u do the pregnancy disability first and now ur doing the baby bonding? im confused about how that works... im pregnant now and trying to figure out what to do when baby comes in august

•Yes! So first I was on SDI for pregnancy disability (4 weeks before birth and 6 weeks after for recovery). Now I'm switching to PFL for baby bonding which is a separate 8-week benefit. You have to file a new claim for the bonding portion even though it's all through EDD.

Quick update based on the comments - if your UI Online account shows "Paid" with $0.00, that's actually good news. It means your claim is approved and payment is processing. You'll likely see the actual payment amount appear within 2-3 business days, and then funds in your account 1-2 days after that if you have direct deposit set up. One thing to note - for your first payment, they sometimes include multiple weeks at once, so don't be surprised if the amount is larger than you expected (that's a good surprise!).

•Thank you so much for clarifying! Just checked again and now it shows the actual amount! Says it was processed yesterday, so hopefully hits my account tomorrow or Monday. Such a relief!

•That's awesome news @GalaxyGazer! So glad to hear your payment is processing. It's such a huge weight off your shoulders when that money finally comes through, especially with bills piling up during unpaid leave. Enjoy bonding with your little one without the financial stress!

This is such a stressful time financially! I'm going through the exact same thing right now - filed my PFL claim two weeks ago and still waiting for my Notice of Computation. Seeing everyone's timelines here is really helpful. It's so frustrating that EDD doesn't give clearer expectations about when payments will actually arrive. The uncertainty makes it so much harder to budget during what should be a special bonding time with your baby. Hoping your payment comes through quickly! Thanks for sharing your experience - it helps other parents like me know what to expect.

•@Giovanni Rossi I totally feel you on the financial stress! It really is frustrating how vague EDD is about timelines. Two weeks for your Notice of Computation sounds about right based on what others are sharing - mine took about the same time. Hang in there! Reading through all these responses has been so reassuring. It s'nice to know we re'not alone in this process. Hopefully you ll'get your notice soon and then payment shortly after. The waiting is definitely the hardest part when you re'trying to plan around bills and expenses!

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! Filed my baby bonding PFL claim about 10 days ago and have been checking the mail obsessively for that Notice of Computation. It's so nerve-wracking when you're on unpaid leave and watching your bank account dwindle. Based on all these responses, it sounds like once you get that notice, you're really in the home stretch - just need to hang tight for another week or so for the actual payment. The fact that your UI Online account now shows the payment amount is such a good sign! I'm bookmarking this thread because everyone's timelines are super helpful. Thanks for asking the question so many of us new parents are wondering about but too stressed to ask!

•@Sophia Russo You re'so welcome! I was definitely too anxious to wait and not ask - the uncertainty was killing me! It s'such a relief to see how helpful everyone has been with sharing their actual timelines. When you re'stressing about money and trying to enjoy time with your new baby, every day feels like forever. Hopefully your Notice of Computation comes soon! Based on what others shared, 10 days sounds like you should be getting it any day now. This community has been a lifesaver - way more helpful than EDD s'vague website! 🤞

Just went through this exact process! Got my Notice of Computation on March 15th and payment hit my direct deposit account exactly 8 business days later on March 27th. The waiting is absolutely brutal when you're on unpaid leave - I was refreshing my bank account multiple times a day! One tip that helped me: once you see that "Paid" status in UI Online (even with $0.00), you can usually expect the actual payment to process within 48-72 hours. The system updates overnight, so check first thing in the morning. Also make sure your direct deposit info is correct in your account - any issues there can add several more days. Hang in there, the money is coming! Being a new parent is stressful enough without worrying about finances. 💙

•@Adrian Connor Thank you so much for sharing your exact timeline! 8 business days is really helpful to know - gives me a realistic expectation. I ve'definitely been refreshing my bank account way too much too! 😅 It s'reassuring to hear from someone who just went through this. The tip about checking UI Online first thing in the morning is great - I ll'stop checking it 10 times throughout the day. Thanks for the encouragement about being a new parent, you re'so right that the financial stress just adds to everything else we re'juggling!

Just wanted to jump in as someone who recently went through this same anxiety-inducing wait! I filed my baby bonding PFL claim in February and the timeline was almost identical to what others are sharing - got my Notice of Computation about 2 weeks after filing, then payment hit my account 6 business days later. The key thing that helped my stress was realizing that once you get that Notice of Computation, you're basically approved and it's just a matter of the payment processing system catching up. I know it's SO hard when you're watching every penny and bills are due, but based on everyone's experiences here, you should see that money very soon! Also, don't hesitate to call if it goes beyond 10 business days after your notice - sometimes there are small hiccups they can resolve quickly over the phone. Congrats on your new little one! 💕

•@Bethany Groves This is exactly what I needed to hear! Thank you so much for sharing your timeline - it s'almost identical to what I m'experiencing. The reassurance that getting the Notice of Computation basically means you re'approved is huge for my anxiety. I keep worrying something will go wrong at the last minute! Your tip about calling if it goes beyond 10 business days is really helpful too - good to know there s'a point where it s'worth following up. It s'so nice to connect with other new parents who understand how stressful this financial limbo is. Thanks for the congrats and the encouragement! 🙏

I'm in a similar boat and this thread has been incredibly helpful! Filed my baby bonding PFL claim about a week and a half ago and have been anxiously waiting. Reading everyone's timelines is giving me so much peace of mind - it sounds like the process is slow but pretty predictable once you know what to expect. The financial stress during this time is no joke, especially when you're trying to focus on bonding with your new baby. Thanks to everyone who shared their actual experiences and timelines - way more useful than anything on EDD's website! Hoping all of us waiting parents get our payments soon. This community support makes such a difference! 💙

•@Yuki Watanabe I m'so glad this thread has been helpful for you too! It really is amazing how much more useful real experiences from other parents are compared to EDD s'vague website. A week and a half sounds like you should be getting your Notice of Computation any day now based on everyone s'timelines. The waiting is definitely the hardest part, but it sounds like once things start moving, they move pretty consistently. Wishing you a smooth process and hoping your payment comes through quickly! It s'so reassuring to know we re'all going through this together and supporting each other. 🤗

This thread is so reassuring! I'm in a very similar situation - filed my baby bonding PFL claim about 10 days ago and have been stressing about when the money will actually come through. Like you, I'm on unpaid leave and watching our savings drain while waiting for EDD to process everything. It's frustrating how slow the system is when new parents are dealing with so many expenses! Reading everyone's timelines here gives me hope that I should see my Notice of Computation soon, and then hopefully payment within a week after that. The financial uncertainty during what should be a joyful bonding time is really tough. Thanks for asking this question - it's exactly what so many of us are wondering but were maybe too anxious to post about. Fingers crossed your payment hits your account this week! 🤞

•@Noah Torres I m'so glad this thread is helping you too! You re'absolutely right that the financial uncertainty takes away from what should be such a special bonding time. 10 days sounds like you re'right on track based on everyone s'experiences - most people seem to get their Notice of Computation around the 2-week mark. It s'crazy how EDD expects new parents to just figure this out on their own with no clear timeline! I ve'learned more from this community in one day than from hours of searching their website. Hopefully we ll'both have our payments soon and can actually relax and enjoy our babies without constantly worrying about bills. Thanks for sharing your experience - it helps to know we re'all in this together! 💙

This thread has been such a lifesaver! I'm currently going through the same process - filed my baby bonding PFL claim about 12 days ago and still waiting for my Notice of Computation. Reading everyone's actual timelines is so much more helpful than EDD's vague website that just says "processing times vary." The financial stress while on unpaid leave is real - I've been calculating and recalculating our budget daily trying to figure out how long we can stretch things. It's reassuring to see that most people are getting their Notice of Computation around 2 weeks and then payment within a week after that. @GalaxyGazer so glad your payment is finally processing! Gives me hope that mine will come through soon too. Thanks everyone for being so open about your experiences - this community support makes all the difference when you're navigating this confusing system for the first time! 🙏

•@Mason Davis I totally understand that daily budget recalculating stress! I did the exact same thing - constantly checking our account balance and trying to figure out how to stretch every dollar. 12 days sounds like you should definitely be getting your Notice of Computation any day now based on everyone s'timelines here. The waiting is absolutely brutal when you re'watching money go out but nothing coming in! This thread has been such a sanity saver for me too - it s'amazing how much more reassuring real experiences are than EDD s'unhelpful website. Hang in there, you re'almost through the hardest part of the waiting! Once that notice comes, it sounds like payment follows pretty quickly. We ll'all get through this confusing system together! 💪

Going through this exact same situation right now! Filed my baby bonding PFL claim about 8 days ago and have been obsessively checking the mail for that Notice of Computation. The financial stress is so real when you're on unpaid leave - I literally made a spreadsheet tracking all our expenses and how long our savings will last! 😅 This thread has been incredibly helpful though. Based on everyone's timelines, it sounds like I should get my notice within the next few days, and then hopefully payment about a week after that. It's so frustrating that EDD doesn't provide clearer timelines, especially when new parents are already dealing with so much. @GalaxyGazer congrats on your payment processing! That gives me so much hope. Thanks for starting this discussion - it's exactly what so many of us are wondering but were too stressed to ask about!

•@Sean O'Donnell The spreadsheet tracking expenses is so relatable! I did something similar when I was waiting - anything to feel like I had some control over the situation. 8 days sounds like you're right on track based on what everyone's shared here. The obsessive mail checking is totally normal too - I was basically camping by my mailbox! It's wild how EDD just leaves new parents in the dark about such important timelines. This whole thread has shown me how much we all need clearer communication from them. Hopefully your Notice of Computation shows up this week and then you'll be in the home stretch! The waiting is definitely the worst part, but it sounds like once things start moving, they move pretty predictably. Hang in there! 🤞
