EDD PFL payment delay after transitioning from SDI - anyone else waiting?

Is anyone else struggling with the transition from SDI to PFL not being paid yet? I submitted my baby bonding claim last Tuesday after my pregnancy disability ended, and I'm seriously panicking. I had all my bills scheduled around getting my first PFL payment today, but I just learned EDD was closed yesterday for the holiday! My account still shows 'pending' with no estimated payment date. My savings are completely drained from being on reduced SDI payments the last 6 weeks. Has anyone who recently transitioned from disability to PFL actually received their first payment? How long did it take? I'm literally eating ramen tonight because I budgeted expecting this money. 😫

This is so frustrating! Did your online account at least update with any info? Mine just says pending with no other details. I don't understand why it takes so long to just switch from one benefit to another when they already have all my information!

The transition from pregnancy disability to baby bonding PFL typically takes 10-14 business days to process, so you're still within the normal timeframe. The holiday did push everything back by a day, but your payment should be processed this week. Make sure your doctor completed the transition section on your DE2501 form properly, as that's the #1 cause of delays. Your online portal will update to 'paid' status before the money hits your account.

Thank you for explaining! My doctor definitely filled out that transition section - I watched her do it and double-checked before submitting. Is there any way to see if there are specific issues with my claim, or do I just have to wait? The not knowing is killing me.

You can check the 'Contact Us' section of your online account for any messages about missing information. If nothing shows there, you'll need to speak with a representative. Many people have success calling right when they open at 8am.

the system is totally rigged agianst new parents!!!! i waiting almost THREE WEEKS for my transition payment last month. they never tell you this could happen and by the time you figure it out your already in a finacial emergency. I had to borrow money from my parents!!!! the EDD website is useless and phonelines are a joke

Three weeks?! That's insane! Did you eventually get it resolved by calling, or did it just randomly process one day?

I had the exact same issue last month when transitioning from pregnancy disability to baby bonding. After days of calling and getting disconnected, I used Claimyr.com and got through to a rep in under 30 minutes. They explained that my claim needed a simple verification due to my SDI ending date and PFL start date having a 1-day gap. The rep fixed it on the spot and my payment processed the next day. Here's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 - totally worth it when you need to talk to someone urgently!

I processed my PFL baby bonding claim in early January 2025 after ending my pregnancy disability claim, and it took exactly 8 business days to receive my first payment. Here are some tips that helped me: 1. Make sure there are NO gaps between your SDI end date and PFL start date 2. Check that your doctor completed the transition verification section on your DE2501 form 3. Verify your identity is fully authenticated in the system 4. Confirm your EDD debit card is still active (they expire after 3 years) If you've already verified all these things, you should receive your payment soon. The EDD system does batch processing of claims, so payments often come through on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Thank you for the detailed checklist! There's definitely no gap in my dates, and I'm using the same EDD card from my disability payments. I guess I just need to be patient for a few more days. It's just so stressful when you're counting on that money for bills and baby expenses.

A MONTH?! 😱 That's absolutely terrifying. Did she have to do anything special to finally get paid?

I just went thru this last week! My disability ended Jan 8 and I started PFL baby bonding Jan 9. Got my first payment yesterday (Jan 21). Took exactly 9 business days. The online status didn't change until the morning the money hit my account. I was checking it like every hour lol. The whole time it just said "pending" with no other info. So annoying.

That's actually really reassuring! I'm on day 6 of business days, so maybe by the end of this week I'll see something. Did you have to call them at all or did it just process automatically? I'm checking my account constantly too!

Never called them - just waited impatiently lol. The money just showed up. BTW the notification email came AFTER the money was already in my account. And congrats on the baby!!

UPDATE: My payment just came through this morning! It took 8 business days total from submission. Thank you everyone for the reassurance and advice - I was definitely overthinking this. For anyone else transitioning from disability to PFL, just be prepared for this processing gap and budget accordingly if you can!

I'm currently going through this exact same situation! Filed my PFL baby bonding claim on March 24th after my pregnancy disability ended on the 23rd. Still showing pending with no payment date. It's such a relief to see I'm not alone in this - I was starting to worry something was wrong with my claim. Reading everyone's experiences here is really helpful. Sounds like 8-10 business days is pretty normal, so I'm trying to stay patient even though bills are piling up. Thanks for posting this - sometimes you just need to know other people are going through the same stress!
