EDD claim status check - appointment conflict, office closes at 5PM. Help!

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I've got an appointment at 3:45 today but I also need to check on my unemployment claim status. The EDD office closes at 5 PM and I'm worried I won't be able to get through in time. Has anyone dealt with this before? Any tips on how to manage this or what I should do?

Paige Cantoni

Ugh, the EDD is such a nightmare to deal with. I've been in your shoes before and it's so frustrating. Have you tried calling first thing in the morning? Sometimes that works better.

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, I can't call in the morning because of work commitments. It's so annoying that their hours are so limited 😫

Morning calls are hit or miss tbh. I've had better luck calling right after lunch. Seems like thats when they have more staff or something 🤷‍♂️

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

$20 just to make a phone call? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 🤡

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

How does it actually work? Do you have to give them your personal info?

Nah, you just put in your phone number and they call you when they get through. No personal stuff required. It's pretty straightforward

Have you tried checking your claim status online? Sometimes you can get the info you need without calling.

Yeah, I've tried that but it doesn't show all the details I need. Plus, I have some specific questions about my claim that aren't answered online 😕

Pro tip: If you cant get through today, dont worry too much. Your claim effective date is still a ways off (01-06-2025). You've got time to sort this out. Just keep trying and document all your attempts to contact them.

The whole system is a joke. I've been trying to get through for weeks. Good luck, OP. Your gonna need it 🙄

Preach! 🙌 It's like they purposely make it difficult to discourage people from claiming benefits

Here's what I've learned from dealing with EDD for the past year: 1. Persistence is key. Keep calling, even if you get disconnected. 2. Use the online portal as much as possible for basic stuff. 3. If you do get through, ask for a direct number or extension for follow-ups. 4. Keep detailed records of all your calls and attempts. 5. Consider reaching out to your local assembly member's office. They can sometimes help expedite things. 6. Be prepared with all your info when you call. Have your claim ID, SSN, and any relevant dates ready. 7. If you're really stuck, that Claimyr service others mentioned might be worth a shot. Remember, the system is overloaded, so be patient but persistent. Good luck!

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! This is super helpful. I'll definitely try reaching out to my assembly member if I can't get through soon.

Have you considered faxing your inquiry? Sometimes old school methods work when everything else fails lol

omg does anyone even have a fax machine anymore? 😂

You'd be surprised! Some gov offices still use them. There are also online fax services if you don't have access to a physical machine.
