EDD PFL payment sent to nonexistent Money Network debit card - no way to access funds!
I'm freaking out right now! My PFL baby bonding benefits were supposedly paid out on July 21st (about $1,580) to a Money Network debit card that I NEVER received in the mail. I didn't even know EDD switched from BofA cards until I got the payment notification email! When I log into my account, it shows payment was issued but I have zero way to access the money. I've tried calling the EDD customer service line 15+ times, tried the Money Network automated system, and even emailed through the contact portal. The automated systems just keep saying "your card was mailed" but it's been 3 weeks since payment! I'm a single mom and really need this money for rent and diapers. Has anyone else dealt with this Money Network card mess? How did you actually get a human being to help? I'm desperate!

This happened to me too!!! It's ridiculous how they switched to Money Network without properly notifying everyone. When I finally reached someone (after like 100 tries), they told me that they mail new cards 7-10 business days after the FIRST payment is processed. But sometimes the system glitches and doesn't trigger the card mailing! I'd recommend calling right at 8am when they open. That's how I finally got through after weeks of trying.

•Thanks for the tip on calling at 8am. I've been trying midday with zero success. Did they eventually resend your card? I'm so stressed about this money sitting somewhere I can't access it!

I work in HR and have been helping several employees navigate this exact issue. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the Money Network directly at 1-888-233-5916 and tell them you need a replacement card 2. They should be able to verify your identity and expedite a new card (2-3 business days) 3. You can also request they unlock the virtual card feature on their app, which lets you access funds before physical card arrives If Money Network says they have no record of you, that means EDD hasn't properly transmitted your account info. In that case, you absolutely need to reach EDD directly.

•I tried Money Network already and that's the problem - they claim they don't have an account for me even though EDD shows payment went to them! This is so frustrating. So I definitely need to reach EDD somehow.

•How did you eventually get it fixed though? Did you have to go to an office in person? I'm having the same issue and nothing is working.

This is a common problem since they switched from Bank of America to Money Network in 2023. The issue is that in the EDD system, they show payments as "issued" once they've been processed on their end, even if Money Network hasn't created your account yet. You have two options: 1. Keep calling EDD at 1-833-978-2511 (I know it's frustrating) 2. Try Claimyr. I was skeptical but it actually worked for me when I had a similar issue with my PFL claim. They connect you with an EDD rep usually within 15 minutes instead of spending days calling. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 that shows how it works. Once you reach an actual person at EDD, they can initiate a trace on the payment and either reissue it or force Money Network to create your account properly.

•Thank you for the detailed info! I hadn't heard of Claimyr before. At this point I'm willing to try anything because I'm going on week 4 with no access to my benefits. I'll check out that video and see if it can help me get through to someone who can actually fix this.

When I had my baby last year the same thing happened but with my disability before my PFL. I ended up having to go to the actual EDD office in person to get it resolved. Bring ID and all your claim paperwork. The in-person staff can actually call different departments while you're sitting there.

•I didn't even think about going in person! There's an office about 30 minutes from me. Did you need an appointment or could you just walk in?

You need an appointment now. You can make one on their website. But honestly it's worth it because they can actually solve problems in person.

I used Claimyr after seeing someone recommend it here like 2 months ago. Paid like $19 or something but it was TOTALLY worth it after days of trying to get through to EDD about my missing baby bonding payment. The rep I finally talked to was able to see that my payment had been sent to Money Network but my account wasn't set up properly. They had to do some kind of manual override.

The EDD rep coordinated with Money Network while I was on the phone and they set up expedited shipping for my card (got it in 2 days) PLUS they gave me account info to set up the Money Network app so I could use virtual card features right away for some purchases. Not all stores accept the virtual card though.

UPDATE: I finally got through to EDD using Claimyr (thanks for that tip)! The agent confirmed my account had a "card issuance error" that prevented Money Network from creating my account properly. They've fixed it on their end and Money Network is overnight shipping me a card that should arrive tomorrow. For anyone else with this issue: the agent said this is happening to lots of people, especially if you had a BofA card from a previous claim. Apparently the system sometimes doesn't flag your account to create a new Money Network card. Thanks everyone for the help! What a stressful experience.

So glad you got this resolved! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - my PFL payment shows as "issued" but I never received a Money Network card either. This thread has been incredibly helpful. I'm going to try the Claimyr service since calling EDD directly has been impossible. It's frustrating that this seems to be such a widespread issue with the switch from BofA to Money Network. EDD really needs to fix their communication about this change and make sure the card issuance process actually works properly!
