Can't upload birth certificate to PFL claim on EDD website - No option showing, new claim says 'no open claim'
I'm having trouble with my paid family leave claim. I submitted it a couple weeks ago but forgot to upload the birth certificate. Now when I try to upload it, there's no button or option to do so. I even tried submitting a new claim, but still can't upload the document. The website says I have no open claim. I haven't received any confirmation for the new claim I submitted today. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on what to do?

Dealing with the EDD can indeed be an arduous process due to their outdated systems and frequent glitches. While services like Claimyr have been effective for many in navigating the communication barriers with EDD by directly connecting users to customer service representatives, it's important to consider the cost and weigh it against your personal situation. Claimyr has received positive feedback from users who managed to resolve their issues more quickly than expected by using the service. However, for those who might be uncomfortable with spending the additional money, persistence with EDD through traditional means like calling and seeking help from local representatives can also yield results. Additionally, it's beneficial to explore all avenues such as trying different browsers, faxing documents, or even contacting your local assembly member to escalate your issue. These strategies, combined with patience and persistence, can help navigate the frustrating waters of dealing with EDD. Remember, while Claimyr can be a helpful tool, it's not the only solution, and sometimes a combination of tactics works best.

I've been in the same boat, my friend. Here's what worked for me: 1. Take screenshots of the error messages you're getting 2. Write down all the dates (when you first applied, when you tried to upload, etc.) 3. Keep trying to call EDD every day (I know, it sucks) 4. If you can't get through, try contacting your local assembly member's office. They can sometimes help push things through. 5. Check your spam folder for any EDD emails you might have missed Don't give up! The system is frustrating, but persistence pays off. Good luck!

•Thanks for the detailed advice! I'll definitely try contacting my assembly member. Didn't even think of that.

•This is solid advice. The assembly member trick worked for me too. They have special contacts at EDD.

•Persistence is key with these systems. It shouldn't be this hard, but sometimes you just have to outlast the bureaucracy!

Bruh, the EDD is a joke. I've been waiting 3 months for my claim to be processed. The whole system needs an overhaul.

•It's maddening how outdated their processes are. We need a major tech upgrade across these systems.

Classic EDD... their system is always messed up. I'd suggest calling them directly, but good luck getting through. It's like trying to win the lottery 🙄

•I found a way to get through! There's this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that calls for you and connects you when they get an agent. It costs $20 but it worked for me. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Pro tip: If you're having trouble uploading documents online, try using a different browser or even your phone. Sometimes the EDD site plays nice with certain setups and not others. Weird, but worth a shot!

•Good tip! Sometimes using incognito mode helps too since it doesn't use cached data.

Ugh, the EDD website is such a nightmare! I had a similar issue with uploading documents for my disability claim. Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? Sometimes that helps with weird glitches on government sites.

•Clearing cache and cookies can definitely help, but it's frustrating that we even have to do that. These sites should work without all this hassle!

Update: I finally got through to someone at EDD! Turns out there was a glitch in their system that was preventing the upload button from showing up. They're fixing it on their end and told me to try again in 24-48 hours. Fingers crossed it works!

Have you tried faxing the birth certificate? I know it sounds like we're back in 1995, but sometimes the old school methods work when the website is being a pain.

Have you tried mailing the documents directly to EDD? I know it sounds old-fashioned, but when I had upload issues with my PFL claim, I sent everything certified mail with return receipt. It took a bit longer to process, but at least I knew they received it. The address should be on your original claim paperwork. Also, make sure to include your claim number on every page of the documents you send!

•That's actually brilliant advice! I didn't even think about mailing it the old-fashioned way. Sometimes the most basic solutions work best with these government systems. Thanks for the tip about including the claim number on every page - that's the kind of detail that probably makes a huge difference but nobody tells you about it upfront.

I went through something similar last month! The EDD website can be incredibly buggy when it comes to document uploads. Here's what finally worked for me: I called their technical support line (not the regular claims line) early in the morning around 8 AM - they have a separate number for website issues. The tech support person was able to see that my upload button wasn't displaying properly and manually flagged my account so the documents could be processed. They also suggested using Firefox browser specifically for EDD uploads since Chrome sometimes has compatibility issues with their system. It's frustrating that we have to jump through these hoops, but don't give up! Your claim is probably still valid, it's just a technical glitch preventing you from completing it.

•This is super helpful! I had no idea there was a separate technical support line for website issues. That makes so much sense - I've been calling the regular claims line and getting nowhere. Going to try Firefox too since I've been using Chrome this whole time. Really appreciate you sharing the specific details about timing and which browser to use. These little tips can make all the difference when dealing with government systems!

I had the exact same issue a few months ago! The upload button just vanished after I submitted my initial claim. What worked for me was logging out completely, clearing my browser data, and then logging back in during off-peak hours (like early morning or late evening when fewer people are using the system). Also, try switching to a desktop computer if you've been using mobile - the EDD site seems to work better on full browsers. If that doesn't work, you can also try submitting through their mobile app which sometimes has different functionality than the website. Don't panic about your claim disappearing - it's probably still in their system, just not displaying properly due to their notorious technical issues.

•Great advice about trying during off-peak hours! I never thought about the timing affecting website functionality, but that makes total sense. The EDD system probably gets overloaded during business hours when everyone's trying to access it. I'll definitely try the early morning approach and switch to desktop - I've been doing everything on my phone which might be part of the problem. Thanks for mentioning the mobile app too, I didn't even know they had one! It's reassuring to hear that the claim is probably still there even when it's not showing up properly.

I've been dealing with EDD issues for years and here's something that might help - have you tried using the "Contact EDD" form on their website instead of trying to upload directly? Sometimes when the regular upload function is broken, you can still attach documents through their general contact form and reference your claim number. Also, if you have access to a local EDD office, walking in with physical copies can bypass all the website issues entirely. I know it's a pain to do in person, but sometimes that's the most reliable way to get documents into their system. The staff there can usually process uploads on the spot and give you a receipt confirming they received everything. Hope this helps and that the glitch gets fixed soon!

•This is really smart advice! I never would have thought to use the general contact form as a workaround for upload issues. That's the kind of creative problem-solving we need when dealing with these buggy government systems. The in-person option is also great to mention - sometimes going old school is the most reliable path. I'm definitely keeping these backup strategies in mind for my own EDD dealings. Thanks for sharing these practical solutions!

I just went through this exact same nightmare last week! The upload button disappeared on me too after I submitted my initial PFL claim. What finally worked was calling EDD at exactly 8:00 AM (set multiple alarms!) and explaining that it was a technical issue preventing me from completing my claim rather than a new claim request. The rep was able to see my original claim was still active in their system even though the website wasn't showing it properly. She manually noted my account so I could fax the birth certificate directly to their document processing center. Got confirmation within 3 days that they received it. Sometimes you just have to work around their broken website! Don't let them tell you to start over - your original claim is probably still there, just hidden by their glitchy system.

•This is exactly what I needed to hear! I was starting to worry that my original claim was lost in the system somewhere. The 8:00 AM calling strategy seems to be a common theme - I'll definitely set those alarms. It's so frustrating that we have to work around their broken website, but at least there are people like you sharing what actually works. The faxing option gives me hope since the online upload is clearly not happening. Really appreciate you mentioning that the rep could see your claim was still active even when the website wasn't showing it - that's reassuring that all my information isn't just floating in digital limbo!

I'm dealing with a similar upload issue right now! One thing that helped me was trying the upload process using Safari browser instead of Chrome - apparently EDD's system has weird compatibility issues with certain browsers. Also, if you're still stuck, try logging in at exactly midnight or very early morning when their servers have less traffic. I've heard from others that the upload buttons sometimes reappear during these low-traffic windows. It's ridiculous that we have to work around their technical problems like this, but hopefully one of these workarounds helps you get that birth certificate uploaded!

Oliver Brown
•Thanks for the browser tip! I've been struggling with Chrome too and didn't realize Safari might work better. The midnight upload strategy is interesting - I never thought about server traffic affecting these basic functions, but it makes sense given how outdated their system seems to be. It's wild that we have to become IT troubleshooters just to submit basic documents to a government agency. Definitely going to try the Safari + late night combo tonight!
