Accidentally threw out SDI check - how to get replacement from EDD?

Hey everyone, I messed up big time. I accidentally threw out my SDI check and now I'm freaking out. Has anyone dealt with this before? What should I do to get a replacement? I'm worried about how long it'll take and if I'll even be able to get a new one. Any advice would be really appreciated!

I found a way to solve lost SDI check replacement issues, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20j5e9dC9JU

Oof, that sucks! Don't worry too much tho, it happens. You'll need to contact EDD and request a replacement check. Here's what you should do: • Call EDD's customer service line ASAP • Explain the situation - be honest about throwing it out • They'll probably ask for your claim info, so have that ready • Request a stop payment on the old check • Ask them to issue a replacement It might take a few weeks, but they should be able to sort it out for you. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the detailed response! 🙏 Do you know if there's a specific form I need to fill out for this?

No problem! As far as I know, there isn't a specific form for lost checks. They usually handle it over the phone. But if you're having trouble getting through, you could try sending a written request by mail or fax.

Just adding to this - make sure you keep a record of when you called and who you spoke to. It can help if there are any issues later on.

For real, I spent HOURS trying to get through last month. It's like they don't want us to reach them 🙄

Pro tip: call right when they open. You might have a better chance of getting through.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

whatever you do, DON'T try to cash the check if you find it later. That's considered fraud and you could get in big trouble. Just a heads up!

This is why I always take a picture of important checks before I do anything with them. Saved my butt a couple times!

That's actually a really smart idea. I'm definitely going to start doing that from now on!

3 months?! That's insane. Did you have to do anything special to finally get it?

Honestly, I just kept calling and bugging them. Eventually got someone who actually helped. It's a numbers game 🤷‍♀️

Hey, quick question - was it a paper check or the EDD debit card? If it's the card, you might be able to just request a new one without going through the whole replacement check process.

It was a paper check. I wish it was the debit card, that would've been so much easier to deal with!
