Accidentally submitted PFL application too early with wrong date - How to fix with EDD?
Hey everyone, I messed up big time with my PFL application. I accidentally submitted it with the same date as my SDI application, which is totally wrong. I shouldn't have even applied for PFL yet! Now I'm freaking out about how to fix this. Has anyone else made a similar mistake or know how I can get this corrected? I'm worried about how this might affect my benefits. Any advice on what to say when I call them?

Oof, that's a tough spot. Don't panic tho, these things happen. When you get through to an agent, just be honest about the mistake. Tell them you submitted the PFL app too early and need to adjust the date. They should be able to help you out. Make sure you have all your info ready when you call!

•Nah, you should be fine. They deal with this stuff all the time. Just be polite and explain the situation clearly. You got this! 👍

•Agreed, honesty is the best policy here. I made a similar mistake last year and they were pretty understanding. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait on the phone lol

Here's what you need to say: 1. Explain that you mistakenly submitted your PFL application too early, using the same date as your SDI application. 2. Ask them to help you adjust the PFL application date to reflect the correct start time for your leave. 3. Have any specific dates or documentation ready that they might need. 4. After they make the change, ask for confirmation and if there are any other steps you need to take. Stay calm and remember, they're there to help you. Good luck!

•Great advice! I'd also suggest taking notes during the call. Sometimes these convos can get confusing and it's good to have a record of what was said.

I found a method to get someone on the phone quickly. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

•Yep, it's legit! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

Have you tried checking your online account? Sometimes you can make changes there without having to call. Might be worth a shot before you spend hours on hold.

Don't stress too much about this - it's actually a pretty common mistake! I work in HR and see people mix up SDI and PFL dates all the time. The EDD agents are used to handling these corrections. When you call, just explain that you accidentally used your SDI start date for PFL and need to update it to reflect when you actually plan to take family leave. They'll likely ask for the correct dates and any supporting documentation. Keep your paperwork handy and you should be good to go. These kinds of administrative fixes are routine for them!

•This is so reassuring to hear from someone in HR! I was really worried I'd somehow jeopardized my benefits by making this mistake. It's good to know that the agents deal with these mix-ups regularly. I feel much more confident about calling now. Thanks for sharing your professional perspective!

I made a similar mistake a few months ago and was completely panicking! I called the EDD customer service line and the agent was actually really helpful. She explained that these date mix-ups happen more often than you'd think, especially when people are dealing with both SDI and PFL applications around the same time. The key is to call as soon as possible to get it corrected. When I called, I just explained exactly what happened - that I accidentally used the wrong date and needed to update my PFL application. They were able to fix it right in the system while I was on the phone. Just make sure you have your confirmation numbers and the correct dates ready when you call. You'll be fine!

•Thanks for sharing your experience! It's really comforting to know that someone else went through the exact same thing and it worked out okay. I was so worried that I'd somehow messed up my entire claim, but hearing that they fixed it right on the phone is a huge relief. I'll definitely have all my paperwork ready when I call. Really appreciate you taking the time to share this - it's exactly what I needed to hear! 🙏
