SDI payments suddenly stopped in May despite active claim - what to do?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my disability payments. They just stopped coming in May even though I still have benefits left on my claim. Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm not sure what to do next. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Thanks for the positivity! We all need it dealing with EDD.

Ugh, classic EDD nonsense. I swear they do this on purpose to make us give up. Have you tried calling them? Be prepared to spend hours on hold tho ๐Ÿ™„

It's almost like they want to make things as difficult as possible for us! ๐Ÿ˜ค I feel your frustration.

Bro, I feel you. EDD is a clown show ๐Ÿคก I've been fighting with them for months. Keep calling and don't let them off the hook!

Staying persistent is key! They need to know we won't just give up.

I'd join that in a heartbeat! We could swap war stories and coping strategies ๐Ÿ˜…

Has anyone tried the EDD chatbot on their website? I know it's not as good as talking to a real person, but sometimes it can help with simple issues.

I tried it, but it just kept sending me in circles. Ended up more confused than when I started!

Same here! It feels like the chatbot is just there to redirect you back to the FAQs.

Have you checked if there were any policy changes recently? Sometimes they implement new rules and don't communicate them well. Might be worth looking into.

This happened to me once. They changed something and didn't bother to notify anyone. Typical.

unpopular opinion: maybe try going to the EDD office in person? I know it's a pain, but sometimes face-to-face gets better results

Lol good luck with that. Last time I tried, the line was around the block ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Fair point. Maybe call ahead and see if you can schedule an appointment?

I've heard mixed reviews about in-person visits, but if you're desperate, it might be worth a shot.

Friendly reminder to everyone: don't forget to certify for benefits every two weeks, even if you're not receiving payments. It can help prevent further issues down the line.

NebulaNomad

Yes! I missed a certification once and it caused a whole mess. Stay on top of it!

Hey OP, how long were you receiving benefits before they stopped? There might be a time limit you hit without realizing it.

0 coins

-

Andre Rousseau

I started receiving benefits in January, so it's been about 5 months. I thought I had a year-long claim though?

Hmm, that is weird then. Definitely sounds like you need to talk to someone at EDD to figure out what's going on.

Double-check your original claim documents. Sometimes the fine print can be confusing.

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

$20 just to talk to someone? That's highway robbery! ๐Ÿ˜ก

Honestly, the whole system needs an overhaul. It's ridiculous that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get the benefits we're entitled to. Anyone know if there's any legislation in the works to fix this mess?

I think there are some discussions around reform, but government moves so slowly. Let's hope something changes soon.

Pro tip: keep a detailed log of all your calls, who you spoke to, and what they said. It'll help if you need to escalate your case later.

I had the same issue last year! It's frustrating, but here's what worked for me: 1. Gather all your claim documents and payment history 2. Call EDD first thing in the morning (like 7:59 AM) 3. Be polite but firm with the rep 4. Ask specifically why payments stopped and what you need to do to restart them 5. Get a reference number for your call Good luck! The system is a mess, but don't give up!

0 coins

-

Andre Rousseau

Thanks for the detailed advice! I'll definitely try calling early. Did you have to provide any additional documentation to get your payments restarted?

-

AstroAdventurer

In my case, they needed an updated medical certification. But it varies. Make sure to ask the rep exactly what they need from you. Get it in writing if possible!

To address the original post, it's crucial to remain proactive and diligent in your efforts to resolve the stoppage in disability payments. First, ensure that there's no outstanding paperwork, such as medical certifications, that EDD might need. Consistently checking your EDD online account can also reveal notifications or requests from them that you might have missed. Utilizing tools like Claimyr can indeed help in bypassing long wait times. While $20 may seem like an investment, it could save considerable time and stress if you can afford it. However, be cautious and verify the legitimacy of such services through reviews or recommendations. If all else fails, visiting your local EDD office or contacting your state representative can sometimes circumvent the inefficiencies of the phone system. Documenting every interaction with EDDโ€”time, date, and details of the conversationโ€”can also be invaluable if you need to escalate the matter. Remember, you're entitled to these benefits, and persistence can often pay off.

have you checked your online account? sometimes theres a message or required action you mightve missed. worth a shot before you spend 10 hours on hold lol

0 coins

-

Andre Rousseau

Good idea, I'll double-check. But knowing EDD, it'll probably just say "pending" with no explanation ๐Ÿ™ƒ
