SDI payments suddenly stopped, no notices - what to do?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I haven't gotten my disability payments for a few weeks now and I'm starting to get worried. The weird thing is, I haven't received any notices or explanations about why the payments stopped. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not sure what to do next and could really use some advice. I'm thinking about calling them, but I'm not even sure what to say. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

PSA: Always keep copies of EVERYTHING you send to EDD. And I mean EVERYTHING. You never know when you'll need to prove you sent something.

Exactly, and sometimes the dates on these documents can provide crucial evidence in your favor.

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They can sometimes help expedite things with EDD. Worth a shot!

I didn't even know that was an option. How do I find my assembly member?

Just google "[your city] assembly member". They usually have a "contact us" form on their website for constituent services. Explain your situation and they might be able to help!

Some assembly members are quite proactive with EDD issues, so it's definitely worth reaching out to them.

I work for a non-profit that helps people navigate EDD issues. Here are some tips: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all calls, letters, and online communications. 2. If you call, always ask for a reference number for the call. 3. Send any required documents via certified mail so you have proof of receipt. 4. Check your spam folder regularly for EDD emails. 5. If you're not getting anywhere, consider filing a complaint with the state ombudsman. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up! If you need more help, there are organizations out there that can assist you for free.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

Yep, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny IMO.

$20 to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😤

Though it's not ideal to pay to reach a government agency, sometimes these third-party services provide the reliability and efficiency we need, especially in urgent situations.

Ugh, I feel your pain. I went through something similar last year. Here's what worked for me: 1. Gather all your claim info before calling 2. Write down specific questions (Why did payments stop? Any issues with my claim?) 3. Be super clear when explaining your situation 4. Ask for next steps and follow-up timelines 5. Take notes during the call! Good luck, hope this helps!

It's unfortunate how common these issues seem to be. Patience and persistence are key in these situations.

Here's a script you can use when you call: "Hi, my name is [Your Name]. I'm calling because I haven't received my disability payments for a few weeks and I haven't received any notices explaining why. I last received a payment on [date], but since then, nothing has come through. Can you help me understand what's causing the delay? Is there an issue with my claim that needs to be resolved? Are there any documents or information that I need to provide? Can you give me an estimated timeframe for when I might receive my next payment? What should I do next to ensure that my payments resume as soon as possible?" Hope this helps! Let us know how it goes.

Great script! I'd add: "Can you please document this call in my file?" It helps if you need to follow up later.

Also, remember to ask for the person's name and department to reference later, in case you need to follow up on the same issue.

have you checked your online account? sometimes they post notices there that dont get mailed out. worth a shot before you spend hours on hold 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, I checked there first thing. No new messages or updates. It's like everything just... stopped 😕

Classic EDD move. They probably "lost" your paperwork or something. Buckle up, OP, you're in for a wild ride 🎢

Sometimes system errors occur, and they might not update in real-time. Check again after a few days, just to be sure.

I understand this situation can be incredibly frustrating, especially when you need your payments to manage your daily expenses. While Claimyr has been beneficial for many users by facilitating quicker contact with EDD, it's important to note that it's not the only avenue. Ensure you exhaust all possible options before spending money, as there are free avenues through local representatives or non-profits that might offer similar assistance. Additionally, keeping concise records and being persistent in your follow-ups is crucial. Sometimes these issues arise from simple system errors or missing documentation, so try to stay as proactive as possible. Remember, you're not alone, and there are resources and community members here to support you through this.

This happened to me last month. Turns out they needed additional medical documentation but the notice got lost in the mail. Definitely call them ASAP. The sooner you figure out what's wrong, the sooner you can fix it.

Oh man, that's exactly what I'm worried about. How long did it take you to resolve once you found out?

StarStrider

It took about 2 weeks after I sent in the docs. Not great, but could've been worse. Just stay on top of it!
