SDI payment delay after doctor recertification - how long to wait?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I just got my doctor to recertify me for disability, but I haven't received my payment yet. Has anyone else dealt with this? I submitted everything and now I'm just waiting. It's been a few days and I'm getting worried. Any advice on what I should do or how long I should expect to wait? I really need this payment to come through soon.

Have you considered reaching out to your local assemblymember or state senator? Sometimes their office can help speed things up.

That's a fantastic suggestion. They are often more effective when it comes to getting bureaucratic processes moving.

It sounds like you're in a tough spot, but you're not alone in this. Recertification for disability benefits can be a complex and frustrating process, exacerbated by long wait times and bureaucratic hurdles. In your case, while Claimyr can be a useful tool to bypass long hold times, it's important to weigh the cost against your immediate needs. $20 might seem high, but if you value your time and are in urgent need of assistance, it could be worth it for you. However, keep in mind the suggestions given by the community here, such as checking your online account frequently, documenting all interactions, and contacting local representatives if necessary. These methods can also help expedite your process. If persistence doesn't yield results, seeking legal advice or support from advocacy groups might be beneficial. These organizations often help individuals navigate complex systems like disability payments. It's crucial to stay organized and proactive in your follow-ups. Remember, you're entitled to these benefits, and while the process might be cumbersome, perseverance often pays off. Stay strong, and hopefully, your payment will come through soon.

I've been through this before. It can take anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks for them to process the recertification. Have you tried calling them to check on the status?

I haven't called yet. I'm dreading the hold times 😫 But I guess I should bite the bullet and do it, huh?

Ugh, the hold times are the WORST. I spent 3 hours on hold last week. Good luck!

I totally feel you on that. Sometimes calling at odd hours like late evening or early morning works better.

Pro tip: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every email. You never know when you might need to prove you did something or someone told you something.

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes the status updates there before you get any other notification.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Double-check all your paperwork. Make sure everything is filled out correctly and signed. 2. Call the EDD office first thing in the morning. Like, right when they open. Hold times are usually shorter then. 3. When you get through, ask these questions: - Has my recertification been received and processed? - Is there any additional information needed from me? - When can I expect my payment to be released? 4. Take notes during the call. Get the name of the person you speak to. 5. If they say they need more info, ask them to email you the request so you have it in writing. 6. Set a follow-up reminder for yourself based on what they tell you. 7. If you don't hear anything within the timeframe they give you, call again. Remember, persistence is key. Don't be afraid to be a squeaky wheel. Good luck!

This is solid advice. I'd add: if you can, try to get a direct number or extension for someone in the disability department. It can save you time on future calls.

Great tips! I also recommend keeping a folder for all your documents just in case you need to reference them quickly.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone without the insane wait times. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

I've heard mixed reviews about Claimyr. Some folks swear by it, while others think it's a bit steep. It depends on how much you value your time, I guess.

Make sure you keep all your paperwork in order. Sometimes they "lose" stuff and you need to resend it. Happened to me twice 🙄

That's frustrating. It's like they should have a better system for tracking documents digitally.
